Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As I mentioned in my previous Hualien posts, for whatever reason, Hualien has a lot of restaurants only offer one street food. This is one of famous ones, which expands to > 100 seats, which offer wanton soup only. Normally, it’s a long waiting line. Because of the Corona virus spreading concern, we were lucky to get seats right away without any waiting. The won ton skin is very authentic, thin and tasty. The soup is just like good old days’ yummy wan ton soup. Don’t forget to try all these yummy street food during your Hualien visit.

This restaurant, which specializes in just one wonton, was bustling with take-out customers. There weren't many people eating in, so we were able to get a table quickly. As soon as we sat down, the wontons were brought to us in a paper container. They were lightly seasoned. The wontons were chewy and had a nice hint of celery, which made them delicious.

Nice quick wonton soup with local flavor. They cook fresh. The soup was delicious and the meat inside the wonton was fresh.

Decided to try since it was right outside our hotel. People dash in sharp at 10am sharp when they open! Nice air conditioned shop, comfy seats while waiting for our bian rou. Food was very good - generous portion of meat! Apparently the family runs a few shops in Hualien and this particular shop serves more generous meat fillings than the other one. Soup tastes just the same so you’ll know it’s from the same family. They also have uncooked ones in boxes to buy home but unfortunately it’s not meat for tourists. Love the bian rou!

This wonton restaurant is a favorite with visitors to Hualien. I haven’t eaten here for almost 20 years. My family of 4 walked here from their main rival, 花蓮香 wonton chain restaurant, after a daytrip to Taroko Gorge). My parents used to live in Hualien so I have been to both popular wonton restaurants. Each bowl came with 10 pork wontons and was 70NT. Pay first and then get seated. We got there around 5:15pm and there was no line. This restaurant has more seating since they took over the space next door. The light broth had a strong celery flavor and had fried shallots and green onions. Condiments—soy sauce, white vinegar, sesame oil, pepper and hot sauce. The pork filling here seemed slightly harder and had a stronger pork flavor than the ones at 花蓮香. They may have had more filling since there was minimal wrapper left to float in the soup base. The amount of filling may also depend on the person who made them. I had some that looked like traditional wontons and some that looked more like dumplings. My palate’s not good enough to distinguish between the 2 wonton rivals but it was nice to share a part of my childhood with my husband and kids.

It is the authentic one that President Chiang Ching-Kuo had visited. Despite two other stores originating from this one and being run by their relatives, I still think this one is still the best.

花蓮人的舊式小食,味道沒有特別,但價錢便宜,也能飽肚,一切是情意結,店舖營業時間長,適合晚上9時後的美食! Hualien people's old style snacks, no special taste, but the price is cheap, but also full stomach, all the feelings of knot, store business for a long time, suitable for food after 9 pm!

Only one dish serve, pork dumbling with soup, $70 Taiwan currency for one bowl, equivalent to C$3.00. Highly recommend, since skin of dumbling is thin, pork dumbling with soup taste great! Enjoy!

All featured photos are of a different restaurant - Yi Xiang Won Ton. I wonder whether or not the comments listed are for Dai's Dumpling or Yi Xiang Won Ton. I was at Yi Xiang Won Ton but not Dai's Dumpling.

This Won Ton shop is apparently very popular in Hualien. Quite a few local residents highly recommend it. It is located right across the street from the Just Sleep Hotel where we stayed so we tried it one afternoon.. They specialize in Won Ton, the only thing they serve in the shop. If you have ever tried Won Ton in Hong Kong, Macau, or even Vancouver before, you will be disappointed. We found both the Won Ton and the soup base tasteless. It is definitely not worth waiting in line for it.

Delicious enough for wanton. Pork filing is fresh. The soup broth has celery, something different. Overall, not bad.
