Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came here for dinner with a colleague and ordered a selection of food off the menu - pork gyoza plus the seafood tacos and I had the beef curry. The starters were delicious, couldn’t fault them. My curry was tasty with the beef cooked medium rare. Personally it would have been nice to get a choice as some people probably would have struggled eating it like that. There was also a chunk of fat at the end of each beef strip, not something I enjoyed if I’m being honest. The sauce was really nice and was washed down with a hot Sake. It’s a modern restaurant with friendly and attentive staff who made sure we were enjoying our meals and our water was kept topped up. Just be aware it can get pretty noisy if there’s a Teppanyaki session running while you’re there!

We stopped in for an early dinner consisting of salmon don and the beef yakisoba. Both were delightful in their own way! The salmon don was a proper don, with rice and a generous amount of fish and salad (with sweet mayo drizzle) - not like many places that sort of skimp on the fish and compensate with bags of lettuce. It was filling and satisfying, in my opinion with the ideal salmon-to-rice ratio. A golden balance. The beef yakisoba was also a delight. I only had a bite, but my companion was happy, lol

I did take-away and ordered the salmon bento with teriyaki salmon, salmon sashimi, some sushi roll pieces, tempura and salad. It was nicely packaged with small containers included and miso soup in a cup. Had lunch in the park, would go back to this restaurant again.

Me and my partner came to this restaurant for my birthday meal and it was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in Queenstown. The staff were completely disinterested in us to begin with. Then when we asked for a couple of things to be explained to us on the menu it just seemed like such an inconvenience and a hassle for them, almost treated us like we were stupid not completely understanding what each meal entailed? (the menu doesn't really have a description ot most meals, we eneded up having to Google what they where) Then when the food finally came out it was SWIMMING in oil! I don't mean just 'fried' I mean everything was DRIPPING in oil and that was the only texture, to the point that me and my partner agreed we'd rather just leave it that continue to eat it. Such a shame.

First of all, our order was messed up twice. The food was not really Japanese. Udon soup tasted of MSG… the fish in the seafood udon soup was not cooked. The ramen broth was very bland and looked nothing like the picture. Not recommended.

Me and my friends had a dinner last night. The yaki soba and spicy seafood were really good. Katsu Curry is good but its just onion in the sauce, im looking for carrots and potato lol. We enjoyed our dinner. Thank you

Had a Teppanyaki Lunch and based on reviews had high expectations. Yes the chef was entertaining and fun. The service was prompt and efficient. For the food we compare with what we have experienced in teppanyaki restaurants in Auckland. The vegetables were slightly overcooked for our liking and overpowered with too much soy sauce meaning the delicate flavour of the different vegetables was lost. Same for the fried rice a brown seasoning sauce mixed through overpowered what would have otherwise been the clean flavours of the fried rice dish. Salmon was just ok, a little overcooked. Your individual Teppan experience at Hikari 19 Grant Road Queenstown may depend on your chef assigned to your teppan table.

COLD INSIDE, granted it was a cold night but everyone inside had jackets and beanies on a heater would be nice! Food was overpriced for quality...sounded like tepanyaki was fun but menu food was disappointing, not terrible just nothing worth the price. Waiter forgot some of order and had to go to bar to reorder, service was average. For the price I'd expect more.

From the moment we entered the restaurant, the welcome and service were exceptional. We came with two children (8 and 11), Grandmother, Aunty and Mum and they all loved the night from start to finish. The food is great, good quality meat and seafood. What set this place apart though was the Teppanyaki Chefs. We had Jason who went the extra mile to make sure everyone had fun. He sung, danced and had many tricks and jokes. High energy fun and the time flew by. Easy parking and a nice change from Central Queenstown. The decor is funky and cool. If you are seeing authentic Japanese service and style you may spot some differences but I would choose this restaurant any day for the full experience and laughs our group received!

We ordered take away on both occasions. The flavours are beautifully balanced and not too salty. The menu options are good and the servings are plentiful. Everything was fresh and tender. The staff are very friendly. We look forward to returning one day. Thankyou Hikari team.

On the occasion of our wedding anniversary I took my wife to the Hikari teppanyaki, I cannot compliment the staff enough especially Jerome our teppanyaki chef, this Filipino Japanese trained teppanyaki chef not only prepared us world class food but also his entertainment skills were spectacular. He even helped me Serenade my wife to make the occasion of our wedding anniversary even more memorable. If you like Japanese Teppanyaki this is a must do when in Queenstown New Zealand.

We booked a table where our food could be cooked in front of us and it didn’t disappoint! Our chef ‘Jerome’ was so funny and included everyone so well. His food was divine and it made the whole experience very memorable. DEFO RECOMMEND!!!

Had a lovely evening here with our family. All the chefs were so friendly and funny making the experience really special. To be honest it felt like our chef, Eric enjoyed it as much as we did. Food was delicious although portion sizes quite small.

If I had used the bathroom prior to ordering my meal I would have walked out. The state of the bathrooms was disgusting- worse than a pub at the end of a Friday night. The whole venue needs a good clean. The waitstaff were more engaged with their phones than the customers. The only redeeming factor was Jason the teppanyaki chef- he was great entertainment and our table really enjoyed his energy. Extremely expensive for what you get compared to other fantastic japanese options in town. Won’t be returning in a hurry

Amazing food and great customer service. The portions are a good size too. There are a lot of yummy meals for just under $20. Definitely recommend the sweet and spicy fried chicken and bento box.
