Mathes isn’t the same since its reopening after the lockdown. Standards have fallen. Portions are much smaller and a la carte prices considerably higher. One definitely eats better at weekends here. The kitchen is more focused and that is translated in the menu being more...enjoyable. However, the service is unprofessional. Too many mistakes, the waiters are negligent and too few. Paying over €40 for a dish of turbot or monkfish with at most 80 grams of fish, a few vegetables and a spoonful of potato is excessive. Our midweek deserts were no better than poor canteen offerings. Tasteless summer fruits served wish a dry, heavy unbalanced chocolate mouse. Whoever constructed this dish should be fired for incompetence! The apricot, yoghurt compote was less awful. We certainly didn’t finish our meal with a bang. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and location. It’s a pity standards have fallen. Some dishes are very good. Some average. Deserts are poor. On the whole I would rate it good.More

Nice stuff and excellent dishes. We always take the « carte blanche » menu, and it is always such a nice and tasty experience! Love it

Mathes is one of the best restaurants along the Moselle. It is nothing outstanding but it serves good quality food well above average and excellent wine in a very nice atmosphere with nice attentive and professional staff. If you are looking for a reliable place...for lunch or dinner when you are in the area then Mathes is always a good but perhaps not super exciting choice.More

Beautiful location next to the river Moesel. The hospitality was great and professional. Although it is expensive, the food is fantastic and we had some lovely local wines.

Elegant restaurant with a beautiful terrace. Service is impeccable and the food well prepared and attractively served. The wine from the vineyard above is very good. We had peach and white, local wine cocktails accompanied by delicious hors-d’œuvre followed by main dishes, all excellent. The...deserts are good and plentiful. This restaurant is pricey but the food and local wines are very good and the surroundings are charming - all in all worth the price.More

The restaurant is nicely located on the mosel and has a nice garden. We had some apéritives in the garden and were enjoying the late summer evening. We ordered outside our dinner to have dinner inside ! Once we had all chosen as a group...of 10 the owner came out to tell us that we had the Maximum of 3 different starters and main courses . Given we had a vegetarian with us this limited the choice to two for a group of 9 . Somehow that ruined the evening and it is difficult to make those minus points back. We won’t be back !! The restaurant has a nice menu and the rest of the staff was nightMore

We have chosen Mathes for our marriage celebration (small group of 18 persons) and I can say everything was perfect! The restaurant has a very beautiful and cozy terrace where we had the aperitifs and we continued in the restaurant for the meal. Everything from...settings, food and service was just perfect. Food absolutely tasty, well cooked and waiters very smiling, professionals and helpful. Very good support from the owners for organizing the event! Previous the event we've been there several times and everything was great with no exception!More

This place is so special. The garden area is absolutely beautiful, quiet and romantic. Food is exquisite...my husband is a real picky person when it comes to food but he loved and complimented all dishes. I hope the chef gets his Michelin star soon, it...would be very well deserved. Service is very attentive and friendly, interestingly Luxembourgish and not French (probably that’s why it’s so good). It’s on the pricey side indeed but worth a visit with your partner for an anniversary treat. We loved every moment of our dinner there and will be returning this summer!More

Went as part of a big group so we had a fixed menu. Food was very tasty and service prompt. Took a while in between the dishes, but the environment is so nice that it did not matter. We had our own separate room which...I find a bit boring. I am sure the restaurant is cozier and you then also have the pleasure of reading the menu and choosing what you want. So I will try to come back and have a meal of my own choice. Chances are that I try to find the lobster tail if they have it. It was fantastic.More

The restaurant has a nice terrace and is situated close to the river Moselle which separates Luxembourg and Germany. Decoration is beautiful. Plenty of free parking. So far, so good. The very high prices for the food are in no relation to the quality served!...Much too expensive for what you get on your plate! Especially the wine (by the glass) is a joke, you pay more for 1 (small to medium) glass than for a whole bottle in a wineshop?! and that's not normal, even in Luxembourg. Don't tell the owner or the server if you don't like the presentation or taste of your dish. Critical comments are not welcomed here! They don't hesitate to serve you overcooked food (fish/meat/vegetables) but become nasty if you try to argue with them. There are much better places in the beautiful Moselle region to be discovered.More
