Empty restaurant, lovely meal

On a Thursday out with my sister, we called into the Pedal Pusher Restaurant(well out of the centre of Rolleston) for lunch. The place was empty, just the two of us. After arriving and washing our hands we sat down and ordered our meal. I ordered Pork Belly Hash, really tasty and not too much. My sister ordered the Winter Vegetable Salad, it was large and she said it was also very tasty. The staff were very friendly and were willing to talk and explain what was happening and what they were doing to assist the non spread of the virus. While we were there we asked the person serving us, about how they were coping with the virus news. The restaurant had been busy up until yesterday. Every hour they are cleaning everything customers touch, not setting tables until customers sit down and order. As we were leaving we noticed that they were getting ready to clean down every where we had been. We felt as though we were looked after the whole time we were there.

Fantastic place to dine. Great menu choice - a little on the more expensive side but the meals taste Yummm. The meals aren’t huge but you feel satisfied. Kids menu is great and not loaded up with chips. Meals are beautiful presented. Desserts were great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pedal Pushers have a kids toy corner to help keep kids happy and busy. Really recommend giving this place a try

Not bad if you are looking for a place to sit and chat ...

Had a late lunch at the pedal pusher ... and given that most of the Rolleston restaurants close for lunch after 2 pm, it might be one of the best spots in town to eat between say 2 and 5. Food was good, but not outstanding ... and still need to get used to paying nealrly $30 for fish'n chips (or basically any main). Anyway - chips have been good and fresh, the pasta we ordered as well was good (though if you are hungry, better budget for two portions) and the desert (ice cream) not bad. 3 scoops, a bit of whipped cream, a sprinkle of sugar and traces of berries plus some marshmellows for $17. Service was friendly, though initially a bit too attentative (asking whether they can bring more while both plates and glasses still well filled) and later not so. Premises are friendly and warm. Overall - not bad, but we probably keep looking for our favorite spot in Rolleston.

So we visited PedalPusher Rolleston two weeks ago and ordered the burger and it comes out with black buns. These are supposedly charcoal but they are not they are buns with food colouring and they look gross. Next time we visited we asked for white buns in the burger and the waitress explains that it will cost us an extra dollar! I asked why and she said because they are more expensive. So the reason they are using food colouring buns is because they are cheaper! Obviously other people have asked for white buns as well. The burgers came out cold and the buns were stale. I couldn’t even eat all of it. The chips were soaked in grease. We are disappointed with the food standard and the cheek of passing on a ridiculous price to the customer of stale white buns.

Hi Zoe, Thanks for reviewing us, but I would like to shed some more light on this for your own knowledge. The supposedly 'black buns' are activated charcoal buns, bakeries use activated charcoal dye to make them, not just a food colour! A lot of people love them, some are not so keen, so we also carry milk buns or so called 'white bun' of yours for our beef burger. Our milk buns are nice and fluffy, and of course they are slightly more dearer than the charcoal buns. And now you saying that we are using charcoal buns because they are cheaper, doesn't add up, charcoal buns are relatively cheaper than the milk buns, that does not imply they are of sub standard quality. Charcoal buns are the rage of the town at the moment, we are using it, as they are a big hit. Out of all our meals, our Korean Chicken burger is the best seller. Now let's say that the burger which you got last night, were stale, cold and the chips all greasy, but when upon checked by our lovely waitress twice, you mentioned everything was great!!! So just because you were getting charged extra for something you wanted extra, somehow everything was pretty terrible?? We don't really get into replies like this, but sometimes keyboard warriors like you need to advised in this manner. You have lovely year ahead.

Made a table booking, disappointed

Made a table booking, disappointed that we turned up and started to look through menu when the waitress informed us there would be 25-35 min extra wait time on our mains as they just accepted a big table for booking , so we left. I am sorry but don’t accept bookings if you can’t offer the service , I think this could be my first 1 star review but I am sorry when I make a booking I would expect normal service . Won’t be back again as I now never know if I have to wait over 30 min extra for my main to be served

Hi There, We are really sorry to disappoint you. We had a big booking just like we had yours, all we tried to convey was that there could be a possible 30 minute wait after your order just because we will getting the meals of 20 plus table out. We never meant to say extra 30 minute wait, if you go to any restaurant, you still at least wait 20 minutes after you order, meal dependant, so in a way, what we were trying to say was that there could be a possible additional 10 minute wait. Cleary there was some miscommunication in our message, and I really apologise for that we will work on our communication skills. I hope you give us another chance in the future. Best regards.

Nice setting though the food did not meet expectations

Friends and I went to this restaurant recently for lunch. The location is good with ample parking. Staff and service are very good and the restaurant is comfortable. My friend and I had the Korean Fried Chicken Burger which we were disappointed with. The bun was soggy, the chicken was fried but lacked volume and was not the crispy Korean style that I am used to. For $23 this was no good value and because of this, we would not return.

We ordered the seafood chowder each and the bowl was very small. There was half a cheese scone that went with it. For around $25, you think you would have gotten something a little more substantial. I was here with family and was embarrassed. I'm a local and will never go back.

A place for good food and great service. Just 10 mins walk from our place. Big breakfast not so great but the salmon salad was good. Big portions so make sure you are really hungry! 😁

A Perfect Spot for a Quick Break and Great Coffee!

I absolutely love going to the Pedal Pusher Cafe! Located conveniently next to the local laundromat, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a cuppa or a quick bite while my laundry gets dried. As a busy Airbnb host, finding a little time out in my hectic schedule is crucial, and the Pedal Pusher Cafe provides just that. From the moment I walk through the door, I’m embraced by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The vibe is fantastic, and it immediately makes me feel at ease. The staff are always friendly and warm, greeting me with smiles and cheerful hellos, even when they’re busy. Their hospitality truly enhances the overall experience. The coffee here is absolutely on point – it tastes delicious and delivers that perfect caffeine hit I often need. While I haven’t had too many meals at the cafe, the few I have tried were served quickly and presented beautifully. The quality of the food is commendable, making me look forward to each visit. I’ve booked to come back next week for lunch with a friend, and I can’t wait to see how that goes. If you’re in the area and need a cozy spot to unwind, enjoy great coffee, and grab a bite, I highly recommend the Pedal Pusher Cafe. It’s a gem!

Honestly one of the friendliest Restaurants I’ve eaten at! Food was good! Drinks were amazing and waitstaff are so helpful, check on drinks often and always check that everything’s perfect! Really nice atmosphere not to loud but not to quite. I’ve never gotten a bad meal here! And I go at least once a week. :)) you guys honestly care about people’s experiences and it shows.

Appalling service. There were young children leaning over the bar totally unsupervised by their parents and they could literally touch the alcohol behind the bar. If you ordered a drink you would certainly look forward to it as it would take at least 10 minutes at busy times as they only have one person behind the bar serving drinks. I would not go back.

Had lovely meal with friends, quiet atmosphere so could have easy conversation. Hubby smiled when given large 750 ml bottle of Tui, not had one for years. Decor great for its name sake , easy parking which is always a bonus.

Great place

We visited here as a group of 8. Food was great, bar staff were really friendly and helpful and were really great! I don't drink and they do a great non alcoholic gin which the staff were happy to help with and suggest mixers etc. Portion sizes were fantastic and no one complained...we all left very happy and will definitely visit again.

After being away for a week and experiencing some superb meals it was lovely to return to Christchurch and see that we can foot it with some of the best. Friendly, helpful service and tasty meals of a good size. Good variety of menu, but sadly too full to sample dessert [this time]. Thank you for a warm welcome home. 😃

Had a few visits with some disappointments last 2 years. Have been in twice last 3 weeks and much improved consistency of all meals. Service , staff always good and great tap beers, recommend CHOMP PALE ALE.
