Sorry this review is rather late - but our family visited Cafe 35 back in January while doing our North Island Camper van trip. This place had been talked up by many friends/workmates/acquaintances so we had to stop in and sample the "Paua Pie". What...a great place - humming with activity, beautiful fresh food on display, and a little something for everyone. For 3 out of 4 of us, it was the Paua Pie! The other had fries (sorry bout that). Great friendly service, Great atmosphere, great facilities also. Added bonus was the books on local places/trips and the coast trip that we were heading on to! Thank you Cafe 35 staff, we WILL be back!More
Very cool place, very friendly staff and fabulous food. We tried the pulled pork and Paua pie and both were fantastic. We had a couple of other things from the cabinet and they were also tasty. Great value for money as well. Well worth the...stop.More
Stopped off for lunch on our way around the East Cape. Kept it simple - Hawaiian Pizza & chips. If you like to call hot chips ‘Devine’ - well these were, especially on a wet winters day. Pizza was yummy - lovely & fresh. Friendly...service - definitely five stars from us.More
Called in here on our road trip around East Cape as several people had said we had to try one.
Now I have been eating paua at Stewart Island since I was a toddler but I have never eaten it in a pie.
This was...an interesting experience. our pies were straight out of the oven, the pastry was light and the filling was creamy with a little onion mixed with the paua. To be honest I prefer paua patties or paua steaks but it was fun to try a paua pie.More
It’s a long drive between cafes in this part of the world, and this one is a particularly special find. It ticks a lot of boxes, with big ticks for good coffee, character and creative local food options. Homemade pies are a specialty and the...paua pies are a “must try”. The coffee was strong, hot and flavoursome, and came in gorgeous character cups. On a wet day, the cafe was cosy and warm, and we ate at an indoor table. Some of the outdoor tables are undercover, but it was a bit cool out there for us. On a summer’s day, the outdoor seating would be very appealing. Toilet at the bottom of the garden - heaps of character about the toilet too! Great find off the beaten track.More
On the coast for a holiday and when we heard there's paua pie we thought .. mmmm really, why would you waste it in a pie?
Well shut the front door, it is freaking Y.U.M!!! 11/10
Pastry is delicate and light, filling has a perfect...balance of paua and cream and the cafe itself has a really homely feel to it. Love love love this place!
Will be back for sure!More
