Perfect meal

Second meal out in koutsounari and the taverna on the beach was beckoning. We were served by Nino ( ? Spelling) on his first day helping out who was charming and attentive. We had beetroot and tzaziki. The former cooked to.perfection followed by dorado, salad and chips and a chicken fillet. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. House white wine was very drinkable and the complimentary orange sponge and raki most welcome. A reasonably priced meal for fresh fish served on the beach. We will return.

Awesome food with an insane view of the beach

We went twice in a row because we were blown away by this place! You're seated directly at the beach with the most beautiful view, the mountain ranges on the other side. We were welcomed immediately by super friendly staff who always had a smile on their faces. The food was simply incredible; fresh fish and seafood (you could tell because they changes their menu daily!) Cooked to perfection. We tried grilled octopus, salmon, mussels and shrimps- all of which were simply delicious. The staff were always making sure to check if we needed anything, brought new water and wine and were simply a great team. I can't stress enough how great of a restaurant this place is; with everything from the food to the staff and prices being exactly right. Do yourself a favor and have dinner here, I guarantee you won't regret it!

Great food and setting

We loved our lunch at Alatsi after a recommendation from our villa host. We had the smelt fish, seafood pasta, grilled tuna steak and a variety of appetizers, our favourite of which was the shrimp sagnaki. The decor is beachy and the position is rustic and unspoilt. We’d happily return when we’re back again.

Disappointing dont know why it ranks No 1

We tried here because we were in the area and it ranks No 1 against Pelagos and Psaropoula but what a mistake. We were inside because the weather was not that good but the acoustics are bad and with the general noise and crying babies and the lounge music jazz discussion was difficult. Orders were taken promptly, the menu was limited, which is not always a bad thing. We ordered fried squid and prawns saganaki. The saganaki looked great (it can often look like a pile a puke) and was full of big prawns and I was told tasted good but the fried squid were tough and tasted worse. Probably the worse I have ever tasted in Greece. My guests politely chewed through them but I saw they were struggling and felt distinctly queasy for about a hour after. The batter was thin if non existent and there was something wrong with the oil it had been cooked in -maybe burnt. Nice little free pudding at the end. Bit slow bringing change had to ask for it.

The Worst Greek Tavern in Greece!!

Went today for lunch. Looked beautiful with the white tables on the beach under the shady trees. We were looking forward to having a relaxing lunch on the beach before going for a swim. Unfortunately, our experience here was far from enjoyable!! Firstly, the menu is very limited for a Greek tavern. When we finally decided on our meals and ordered, the disappointments began, one after the other! My husband's and our friend's meals came and I expected my meal to follow shortly after. I waited and waited to the point where my husband and our friend both finished their meals and I was still waiting! I called a waitress over and pointed out the fact that 2 members of our dining party had already finished their meals and I still hadn't gotten mine. Around 5 minutes later my meal finally arrived being brought out by the manager. Without an apology, she made the excuse that it usually takes longer to grill a chicken fillet. Not only was this appalling service, but the chicken fillet was dry and tough served with a small handful of chips and the smallest side salad you finished it in 2 mouthfuls!! Compared to meals we have had at other Greek taverns which have been generous, plentiful and delicious, this meal did not come close to what Greek taverns are renowned for serving up! In addition to this, we bought 0.5l of red wine to share. It tasted more like vinegar than wine, it was disgusting! When we asked for the bill we were surprised to see we had been charged for 3 serves of bread at 1€ per serve. When I queried this error which I thought had been made, I was told that the 3 separate charges for the bread were a charge per person!! We got 4 thin slices of bread and were charged 3€!!! What a disgraceful rip off!!! We have been travelling in Greece now for 3 weeks and have been to many taverns. Not one other tavern has charged the bread per person. In fact, the most we have paid for bread, which by the way has been a basket FULL of bread, not just 4 slices, was 1.5€!! Needless to say bad service, awful food and rip off prices, equals bad review! We will never return nor recommend this tavern by any means at all!!

So an amazing place

Delicious food. In one of the most amazing beaches in Greece ,the food is extremely fresh and super tasty. The setting of the restaurant is also fabulous,eating directly on the beach with the sand under your feet , perfect view for a relaxing dinner /lunch right by the sea. The service was on point all the guys are great and we kept coming back almost every day, it s a place that must be visited.:)

Exactly what we wished for

A perfect place right next to the seaside. Very simple yet magnificent decoration. Food was delicious, we've been to enjoy authentic Cretan cuisine. Although the true highlight of our very first night out was the warm hospitality we felt by our waiter janis. We'll definitely revisit!

Good combination of beach and taberna

Tavern is nice, mainly sea food choice but there is few options for meat lovers. Calamari and octopus are very tasty. Domestic white wine is acceptable. Beach is very good, it is not crowded, sun beds and umbrellas are free of charge. There is also wifi, not too high speed but serves the purpose.

Incredible food and atmosphere at an insane price!

This is our second year running staying in the area. We came to Alatsi last year and was blown away by the food, the service and the atmosphere. Definitely worth booking as it is a popular place. Incredible meat dishes, seafood and salads. And at such great prices. Do yourself a favour if you’re in the area and pay them a visit. You can sit on the beach or in the restaurant - both are in the super quiet Koutsanari beach area (Alatsi is the only restaurant on this beach). Plenty of parking too!

Super pleasant experience to eat here. Nice atmosphere, nice and serviceminded staff. Food was for us outstanding. Fresh, welltasting and very full of flavor. We highly recomend everyone to dine here. Best experience so far.

Both of us agreed that it was the best restaurant we have been to for our whole time in Crete. Great food, fair prices, beautiful atmosphere, laid back, and very friendly staff. I think we will come back again tomorrow for our last night :)

If you are in Crete (Koutsounari), Alatsi is a MUST!

Firstly, the atmosphere is gorgeous and relaxing. The service was exceptional, and we felt very welcome here. I had the linguini with shrimps, and it was delicious! I’d give this place 10 stars if I could; what a way to spend our first night in beautiful Greece!

Lovely beach meal out

Had a lovely atmospheric meal with friends, food was great, service was good, lots of locals went when we was there. Really helpful with gluten free menu, lovely picturesque place on the beach.

Very big and nice beach! The restaurant was amazing! I recommend getting the shrimp. It’s so good. The atmosphere is amazing. If you visit Crete then you must go here
