The best Tavern in all of Crete!

Just had the most amazing dinner at Taverna Rodos. Totally the highlight of our trip (which included dinner at a fancy restaurante for our 5-year anniversary with my wife). The owner was the kindest, most service-driven person ever, who took us to the kitchen to show us what he was cooking, and offer us some of the specialities he and his wife make every evening. The prices are fantastic, and the atmosphere is worth travelling from every corner of Crete. Would come back here every evening. Thank you Mr. Vasilis!

This Cretan family restaurant won't disappoint!

This typical Cretan family restaurant serves a limited menu of very well cooked, tasty local dishes. The welcoming host invites you into the kitchen to see today's offerings, which change each day. We are from UK and could not believe the excellent value of our meals.We will be back!

Unique experience! If you want traditional food it's a must!

Incredibile little place. Very simple, no frills. They have no menu, every day they cook something new. It's husband and wife who do everything and have been for 34 years! As you arrive they take you into the kitchen where you choose what you want to eat. It's great if you don't have much time (with our little baby we were happy to have a quick meal and go off to bed) but also if you're happy to stay for a chat, the owners are very friendly, they love to get to know their customers. They have many regulars who go back night after night and you may see some tables eating food you did not see in the kitchen because they take special requests and cook for you if they know you're going back. Really unique experience, felt like going at some friend's house for dinner.

Like dinner at a friend's house

We tried this taverna on the first night of our holiday as it is in easy walking distance of our cottage. A very warm welcome and despite being late September quite a few full tables. Pleasant setting with nice views. We always love it when we are shown what is cooking in the kitchen but this was a little different. What was on offer was already cooked and there was no choice......well we could have left I guess! I am pleased we didnt as we had the two croquettes type starter with a side of horta. All very good followed by pasta twists with beef meatballs in tomato sauce. Also very pleasant. The house white wine was good and our generous host gave us two puddings and raki for free. This meal cost €24 which is very reasonable. I would certainly recommend it if you are easy going about what you want for dinner and enjoy cretan home cooking. He prepares different things each day so next time we may pop by early evening to see what's the dish of the day.

Authentic Cretan cookery

We ended up eating here 4 times during our week’s stay at Creta Suites because we liked Vasilious & his wife Asteria’s cooking, enjoyed the hospitality, great local wine and the comfortable atmosphere. We chose to eat the daily specials each time (shown to us in the kitchen) but there were other options and a special fish dish that people ordered a day ahead. Each meal was also supplemented with something from Vasilias’s garden and his homemade raki. The meals were great value and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Taverna Rodos to others staying in the area.

This is something really special

Just come back from a 2 week holiday in Koutsounari. We had read the reviews of this Taverna so decided to try it the first evening. We never looked back and ate there every evening. The hosts are very welcoming, friendly and passionate about their food. Every evening they presented us with fabulous starters and main courses. The food did not just taste great, but it was also very nice to learn what real Cretan food entails. A real joy to eat there. Next time when we will be in Koutsounari we will return there to eat. What a great experience.

Best meal in Crete

We had our last family meal here before we left for our long trip home and all I have to say is this place and the owners were hands down our most memorable night. From a chef’s perspective, I love a restaurant that you don’t get a menu, it’s chefs choice. I love how you just experience the love for the food. I was brought back into the kitchen by the owner to sample the sauces and broths that the meal was cooked in, I knew at that moment this was gonna be one of those places I remember forever. From the homemade RAKKI to the herbs grown in the garden everything was amazing, even sent us on our way with four fresh tomatoes from his garden. If you are in search of a real authentic Cretan meal this is the place.

Wow! Delicious food and Vasili and his wife treated us like family. What a great way to be welcomed to Crete. Well worth the 15 hour flight to have this delicious food and hospitality! So delicious and perfect in every way! Thank you! We will be back!

Family dinner

We drived around by rent car and found that family restaurant from Tripadvisor, to find some lockal cuisne far away from tourist centre. We arrived at 17:00 and owner just opened their place. We were so surprised, that he invited in their kitchen to offer and explaineid, what they have in menu😃. What else You need, if the food is simple, so delicious and all vegetables are planted in their garden❤️. Pricerange is exellent(cheap). Home wine is so delicious. Thank You so much for the amazing dinner!

Amazing greek food made with so much love!

Came here with a group of friends and ended up going there almost every evening of our stay in Greece! The food is made with so much love and we enjoyed every single dish prepared by Vassili :) For me personally going there was always something i looked for the whole day! I strongly recommend you going to dinner there at least once while you are in the area.
