This place has had plenty

This place has had plenty of reviews and I can’t say anything more than what has been said already. Staff were nice, food (Paella) was ok, nothing spectacular. Great location, reasonably priced. I’d give it three based on food, four on service/location but I would normally skip over three’s and so I think four does it more justice.

Jumbo prawns are exceptional

The overall experience was ok, sat at the small outside terrace with the ocean just a stone's throw away. The 3 of us had come for a seafood extravaganza late lunch. The service is not that great once you have ordered they seem to throw the food down and walk off with no care. Limpets - some quite "hard/chewy" no real flavour or seasoning. Octopus salad - very tasty, very fresh. Garlic prawns - some very nice others slightly mushy (sign of being frozen rather than fresh) in literally any other restaurant this dish is served with chilis in the oil to bring out the flavour, sadly not here. They had run out of scallops but did have Zamboriñas which were done quite nicely. Razor clams - "bit hard/chewy" sadly underwhelming & bland. Mussels marinera - all 3 of us did not like the flavouring of the sauce on this dish. Tasted more like a weak curry. Grilled Jumbo prawns - this was the redeeming dish at this restaurant & they were exceptional! Please give some lemon wedges when serving this amount of seafood as we had to search out a waiter to get some. All this with 1 bottle wine, 1 water, 1 beer + bread/alioli came to €121.

Nice evening at Playa Chica

The meals were delicious ! We went there several times with my boyfriend and tried they’re plate with seafood and paella and they both were delicious! For sure we will come back to eat there again! The staff is friendly maybe the only low point is that they are not really good at english but we managed to comunicate without problems! Maybe the terrace can be re organized and an eye for the cleaning could be also a point of improvement but otherwise We were satisfied with the experience,

Paid for empty shells, barely no clams at the plate

We arrived to this cozy place and was greeted friendly. The servant described the dish "Clams the house way", it sounded tasty and was tasty but I barely got any clam meat. A lot of empty shells, a few clams, maybe 10-12 baby Clams, 1 dl sauce and about 25 empty shells! Cost 12€ and was more like a starter than a main course. I told the waiter, he said he believed me but needed to talk to the chief/boss. The chief did by some reason not believe me, they didn't offer me more food and I had to pay full price. Waiter was sorry but he didn't decide he said.... If you order clams here, check your plate for clams, before starting go eat. I will not go back to this place.

Great lunch, in quirky restaurant

Great lunch, in quirky restaurant terrace with waves breaking 2 metres below us. The ideal location and lunch was even better - 2 salads with a wonderful mix of flavours, made by someone who obviously cares that you enjoy the food. €20 for enormous and great quality salads, with bread, and sparkling water. Try it, you will love the place and food.

Tourist Trap

We thought we might check out this place for a change. Alas, the price you pay for the quality of food is not worth it. The restaurant next door gives better value. It tries hard with fancy stuff like proper table setting, waiting staff in uniforms and even a tout outside to get customers. I would not say that the food is terrible but definitely geared towards getting the tourist dollar. Everything was mediocre, from the potatoes to the croquettes. We have had better at cheaper places. You might argue that you pay for the view but you get the same view at the restaurant next door for less money and better quality.

We chose this restaurant only because the one we wanted was closed for holidays. It was a bad choice. The service was speedy to get the drink orders taken before we got a menu. The menus are falling apart. The selection for non fish eaters was poor. The bruschetta starter was tasteless. The steaks were adequate but not good value for the price charged. We were very disappointed when we compared what we were served here with another restaurant where we got amazing food for the same price. The wine here was more expensive and the food was poor especially the chips which were hardly cooked and only warm. We won’t be back.

Very disappointing.

We went for an evening meal at this restaurant in September 2022. The place has a great location so we had a great view from our table, the menu’s arrived so we chose some main courses, my choice was unavailable so I was offered an alternative fillet of grilled fish. The meals arrived, my simple fillet of fish with 4 potatoes arrived. Not bad food (a bit plain and tasteless) then I asked for the bill. I was shock that I’d been charged a total RIP OFF price of €26 euros. Because I didn’t ask the price before service the owner decided to swindle me. This place won’t be getting my custom anymore.

Very poor restaurant

Went to this restaurant for New Year’s Eve and fixed menu and it was 75 euros per person If I could give zero star then I would for the following reasons 1. Food of very poor quality and clearly not fresh 2. Wine from the house awful and watered down 3. Main course lobster and rice inedible and not possible to eat again clearly lobster and rice not fresh Staff grumpy and stretched I cannot recommend this restaurant at all and was the worst by far we have eaten in Medano. We had to leave without eating main course and sweet and still had to pay 130 euros. This must be rated much lower for restuarants in medano

Odd service and felt it was a tourist trap

Although it gets very mixed reviews we decided to give it a try as we love fish. The fish soup was a thin stock with a king prawn and three mussels placed in it. I did not eat it and mentioned to the waiter how disappointed I was but it was still on the bill. The Sardines and muddled were ok. You pay more here for less food! Walk on by.

What a shame

The bar is in an perfect spot right next to the beach. We popped in for a drink just before midday after walking around el medano. As we walked in we said hello. In Spanish and asked in Spanish could we come in and have drink, he didn't answer and then he said go outside to the end of the terrace, he looked hungover and was in a foul mood. We walked passed two other couples also just drinking , one of the couple's had a plate of olives and were drinking cold beers. We sat down and the waiter popped his head through the window , not even walking around to the table to take our order. We asked for two beers and some olives, we were told this is a restaurant we don't do tapas , even though the other couple had olives. He then passed the drinks through the window. Another couple walked in and he put his hand in their face and said stop what do you want? The woman said a drink please which he wasn't pleased about and then told them to sit outside. He did actually bring their drinks to the table as there wasn't a window next to them so he had to physically walk . Such a shame will not go back again as I said the location was perfect , spoilt by the service or lack of the waiter.

Poor food and rude waiters

We have eaten here in the past and had a great experience. So we thought we would make a special trip to El Médano for lunch at Playa Chica. We placed our order with the rudest waiter we’ve encountered and when our mixed seafood platter arrived it was overcooked and dry, the muscles had shrivelled to the size of peas. When we complained, they were not interested, we will not be returning.

Worst dinner experience ever.. 2 waiters very arrogant.. starters garlic prawns that was the only nice thing about whole meal prawn cocktail prawns old … waiter came up took husbands starter away just as he finished I was still eating , waiter came with both main meals !! Proceed to lift my plate mid eating !! Hubbys steak well overcooked no veg no potatoes asked for chips never came, my chicken omg please don’t waste your money ushered in ushered out .. will never be back

We visit Playa Chica many times, usually the food is good, the service is always good. But today the food was super delicious, both grilled octopus and grilled squid. The waiter kindly shared a recommendation on how the octopus was prepared. I can't wait for the next visit when I will surely enjoy the heavenly octopus again

Not great

We had a meal here recently. It wasn’t good. We were brought the wrong main meal - twice. We eventually got the mussels we ordered, and we both got 12 of them. Each of us had five of those that did not open and we couldn’t eat. The service was very poor, the staff weren’t bothered whether they served you or not and there was a lot of shouting amongst them. I think this place trades on its location and outdoor seating, which is right by the sea. We would never go back.
