Perfect for fish and a lot more

Perfect for fish and a lot more. We had dinner twice at this deceptive restaurant, deceptive because Pizza gets too much emphasis on the signage. The fish was superb, medregal one time and another rare local fish the other. The chef clearly has access to the best of the catch from Santiago’s little fishing fleet. That said, one of our party enjoyed an excellent steak (and there was a booming trade in takeout pizzas). Starters, desserts, wines, service and value all rated highly too. Don’t worry about it being a bit noisy and having a view of the car park, it’s the food that you’re going there for.

Deceptively good

We have been coming to Playa Santiago for several years but never eaten here. Our mistake! Don't be put off by the pizza signage or its position looking over the carpark as inside is a nicely designed restaurant serving a good range of wonderfully fresh fish at great prices. We were shown a fresh platter of fish to choose from and opted for the sea bream. No whistles and bells, just grilled and simply served with Gomerian potatoes and a small side salad. Just delicious. The bill for two starters, one main, water and a glass of nice wine was just €31. Good service too. Recommended.

Fish platter

Have visited this very local restaurant before with friends. Whilst the locals will look to eat the pizza dishes, ask for the fish of the day. You will be shown what’s available and your selection is cooked to order with canarian potatoes and salad. We had the sea bream one evening, it was well cooked and delicate in taste.

Wonderful

This is a great little fish and pizza restaurant. They serve fabulous fresh fish, beautifully cooked, in a small but atmospheric restaurant. No fancy stuff, just good food cooked well at good prices. The waitress was also excellent: full of personality whilst working her socks off. Ps have never tried the pizzas!

Best for fish.

The fish is so good that we can forgive the ordinary ambiance and outlook. Perfectly fresh and perfectly cooked Medregal was unbeatable, served with a simple salad and Canarian potatoes. House white wine was the perfect accompaniment and unbelievably reasonable. Ignore how it looks from outside and make a reservation.

Amazing food, Friendly staff. 100% Recommend

We were recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. It has a beautiful interior and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of the waiters could speak good english so was easy to communicate. We shared garlic mushrooms and the grilled cheese for starters and it was incredible. The cheese came with a lovely honey sauce, definitely worth getting. The pizzas were lovely. Not like any pizza i've had before but it was by far one of the best i've had. The base is very thin and crispy cooked to perfection. 100% recommend this place. Vegetarian options available. Didn't see any vegan options on the menu however they could maybe adapt. The meal came to around €68 with 2 starters, bread, 2 pizzas, 2 desserts, a beer, and a bottle of sparkling rose.

Gem of a Fish restaurant hidden in plain sight

La Marea appears to be a pizzeria, and it overlooks the car park, so many visitors ignore it. Perhaps that’s a good thing because it’s a wonderful fish restaurant (with meat choices and pizzas too) that’s busy enough for its modest size. The fish is as fresh as it can be and is simply and tastily cooked. Wine by the glass is very good, inexpensive and poured generously. Desserts are excellent, if you have space for them. Prompt and friendly service. On a cool evening take a sweater, because the door is always opening. Don’t ignore it!

Good Local Restaurant

Located just off the sea front (not best views in Playa Santiago but some nice outside tables at the side) La Marea is a local restaurant service local food - much of it to local people which is a good sign. We dined here twice during our holiday and both times had a grilled fish platter to share (Medrigal and John Dory) that were cooked to perfection. The desserts (lemon mousse and cheese cake) are also to die for and fine to share after a filling main course. Wine list short but good (nice Verdejo at €16) and plenty of local beers. The staff don’t have much English and our Spanish is pretty non-existent, but they’re very friendly and we managed to communicate just fine. Service a bit variable but that’s their way and it’s all part of the charm. Definitely worth a visit for good local food and fair value.

Pizzeria Plus So Much More!

Good little pizzeria & restaurant. Good idea to book as it gets busy. Our favourite dish was the "lukewarm salad" but it's so much more than just tepid lettuce leaves! Again reasonable prices for food & drink

Not in the best location in the town but great food and service

Whilst not in a great location, overlooking a car park and just back from the seafront, the food and service were both excellent. Nicely decorated inside. We both enjoyed stuffed (very large) corgettes to start followed by their version of lasagne with a salad. Must book in advance. They turned away over 20 diners whilst were ate there. Don't be put off by the location

Good fun and something for everyone

This is a very pleasant restuarant with a good menu and willing and helpful team who work hard to look, after the guests. To pick up on some points in other reviews, this is a Canarian restuarant that serves some Italian dishes - pizza and pasta, but don't expect the same thing that you get in Italy. For us, the pizza was OK, not the best and lasagne different to an Italian or UK version. Maybe to your taste or maybe not, but that is the fun of travelling, or just go to Maccie D or Pizza hut and get the same tragic offering anywhere you like. We couldn't try everything, but the fish dishes and meat dishes looked really good and went down well. It is also not expensive. Salad was great. Well done to the team at La Marea, they have an offer that fits between others in Santiago and do a decent job. It must be tough dealing with customers who don't speak the language and have highly variable expectations.

Superb

La Marea bustles, serving high quality from pizzas to fresh fish. We shared a delicious whole John Dory beautifully presented with all the trimmings. House white wine out of an unlabelled bottle was the perfect accompaniment and was great value.

Local here means excellent if you eat fish or pizza

John Dory is their thing. And to be fair, you will struggle to beat it. The girl serving covers a marathon every day! She’s amazing! But this is local food! Just as it should be. The irony is the locals love the pizzas! Don’t miss it. Reserve a table. No view, so only go with a partner you like! 😇

Best Prawn Cocktail ever!

Dined here two evenings of our holiday. No views but great food and pleasant service. The fish is always good. The prawn cocktail starter is my favourite. We also had lasagne one evening was very tasty. Highly recommend.
