Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food at Tasca do Careca is fresh, simple and delicious. It's run by a family who've clearly been running this place for years and know what they're doing. At a time in the year where practically no restaurants are open, this place was our saving grace and our only option other than buying boring international ingredients at intermarche and cooking up an average meal back at the Airbnb. We arrived to a warm welcome from 2 girls, whom I assume are the owners daughters. The menu includes a variety of seafood and meat options, all served with an abundance of fries. The snotty restaurants in Lagos with their mediocre food and extortionate prices cannot compare. Travel the extra mile and experience an authentic Portuguese dinner. We went back 4 days in a row. The prawns are especially economically delicious.

Even though we had a language barrier, our experience there was amazing- The fish selection was great, we enjoyed 3 large fish platters for 5 The fish was well cooked, prepared and seasoned. The staff made a point to make sure that we we would truly enjoy our experience. This was recommended by a local resident, and we noted a lot of locals came for lunch, a very good sign

A village restaurant designed for locals. It’s got a little pricey for certain menu items over the last couple of years. I understand due to Covid they may of had to act, but the Seabass up from €13 to €15. However pork chops for €8 with a mountain for fries and salad which is comfortably enough for 2 adults, you can’t go wrong. You have to expect simple food served up in a rustic way with no frills. It’s a feast on a budget! But excellent if you like a simple meal a with a cheap beer and a homemade dessert!

Good wholesome food, eaten here several times. Great salmon and chicken and pork ribs enough for two people served with a tomato salad and french fries, good crispy french fries. Reasonable prices. Value for money.

No nonsense, traditional food. An immaculately grilled bass, copious crisp chips, mixed salad and a couple of glasses of house white with ice. The fact that Portuguese families are prepared to wait for an hour and a half outside in the street for a table says it all.

We had the salmon and the sea bass. We thought the food was a little too salty and overcooked. However, the atmosphere made up for everything. The place was filled with locals, the atmosphere was very good and the waitress very friendly. You get the local experience here.

We happened to pass by around 7pm, opened the door and saw a simple but very authentic restaurant. Attentive, friendly service, and pointed out to us that a starter (fish soup) and a main course (meat with mussels) were perfectly sufficient for two. A dessert that we also shared was also fine :-). Absolutely reasonable price/performance ratio, we will be back!

Went on a recommendation from a friend who lived nearby for 20 years. Was warned to get there 20 mins before opening as the queue would soon fill the place. He was right. And it was worth the wait. No fancy decor just well cooked fresh food. Had a mix of prawns (giant) and spare rib. Prawns gorgeous, ribs could do with a bit more flavour. Will go again. Pork and clams sounds mouth-watering.

Filled with a couple of local residents despite the rules of the" state of alert "in Portugal which must say something. We had stuffed squid, cups and salad. Full of flavour and very filling Sad to say that it closed the following day due to the restricted travels due to C19. Hope to return once the world has returned to normal

It looks very basic place but the food is very good. Ordered fish and a salad with two deserts and everything was very tasty. When we got the food there was no time to take pictures so we managed only deserts 😁 And the prices are ok too..

Arrived at 20:40, only to be told the kitchen closes at 21:00 – unheard of in Portugal where late dining is the norm. Felt immediately that they were eager to turn us away, despite there still being time. It wasn't the welcoming experience I expected. Disappointing, to say the least… 🙈

Saw this restaurant on Trip Advisor and decided to try it. Located in a quaint neighborhood and not fancy at all we were pleasantly surprised. The food was wonderful; hubby had ribs and I had the veal steak which was like butter and one of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this tiny, family run gem.

Super nice restaurant with attentive and helpful service. Food is a bit too salty for our taste but still delicious. The portions are really as described on the map. Great portion is really great and great. Salad, meat and fish, as it should be. We are only here for one day, otherwise we would definitely like to come back.

A friend recommended it to us and the truth is... What success!!!! If you come to the Sao Vicente area to see the typical sunset, stop by this place. Don't expect luxury, but do expect kindness and quality. Good genre. Generous portions at a good price. You eat very well. Of course, a place with 8 tables that does not reserve. Since it was low season we had no problem. We shared some prawns and a sea bass. Both tremendous things. Accompanied by tomato salad and roasted potatoes. Quality at a good price. Do not miss it!
