Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This little cafe is a show stopper. They sell lots of ice cream apres-ski and artisanal jams and juices made from local fruits. But the star is the hot steamed buns they sell from bamboo boxes on the street. At less than $2 for any vegetarian offering or about $3 for pork you will leave sated. Enjoy.

We ate at both the café and the restaurant in the hotel. The meal at the hotel was the best we had in the 8 days we stayed in Nozawa. The evening dinner was a degustation for our family of 6 adults and 6 young children. The children's menu was not only pleasing to look at but the children enjoyed eating it. The adult degustation was exquisite and delicious. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. I would certainly recommend this restaurant for dinner.
The café was also a great place for a snack especially a pork or apple steamed bun.
The croque monsieur in the café is delicious but get there before midday or you will miss out.

Japanese baos sold outside the stall, looked very enticing. Had their nozawa bun which i didnt quite like, i think i bought the wrong bun.
The jams inside are more of the expensive side as compared to the other shops around

This is a good place to come for dessert. We usually get a homemade gelato or matcha latte or Ringo (apple) dumpling from the front. You can sit or stand inside and look at the condiments and other foods that line the shelves.

Steamed buns - the buns are served outside and sometimes there might be a line queued outside. Pork buns were good. 4 stars.
Gelato - served inside. The non-fruit flavors like barley, green tea, and pistachio were ok. The fruit flavors like peach and apple, tastes like it was made with goat milk with not much fruit flavor. No samples, otherwise we would have tasted flavors first instead of wasting an entire cup. 2 stars.
They take credit cards.

I came here every night during my stay in Nozawa, just to try the new ice cream flavours each day. Options range from familiar favourites through to unusual and exciting ones (eg, Soba or sesame!). Everything was consistently delicious.
I also tried the coffee (Allpress espresso) which was reasonably good but not amazing, and the cinnamon rolls which were very nice.

We walked past every day just to try the steamed buns. The pork are delicious and so are the apple cinnamon buns. They also have a great ice cream selection. We bought ham to bring home but unfortunately we put in in hand luggage and it got confiscated.

The degustation menu was amazing. Everything was superbly presented, there were clever combinations of ingredients that created unique flavours and textures. You will need to book ahead if you want to be able to experience this gastronomic delight.

We were drawn to the wooden crates of steaming buns outside this cafe which was ultra enticing in the winter cold. They have different flavours - sweet and savoury. I recommend the nozawana bun which is filled with traditional local preserved vegetables (spicy version available), the shimeji mushroom bun and the Ringo, which is with apple and cinnamon. If you're not fussy, a dinner option could be grabbing a couple of these and sitting in the cafe with a drink. Dinner places in Nozawa are not the easiest to book and have limited seats. They largely tend to open round 6pm for dinner so if you're done with the slopes at 4pm and don't want to wait around 2 hours esp without reservations, can consider this for one of the evenings which was what we did. The ice cream was average. This was more of the icy type whereas we prefer the slightly chewy ones.

Great coffee and hot chocolate. The staff are just the best.
P.S. Out the front of the shop they sell fresh hot dumplings (actually they’re called oyaki, but close enough, get into them).

Nice hot steam buns!
We came to the out side steam bun section after a morning on the sloops. It was nice, quick and hot! Very tasty and friendly.
Can again the next day with my daughter to have a bun and hot Chocolat inside and again, friendly and yummy.

Very popular and seems touristy. If it’s not busy it’s worth popping in for a hot chocolate or coffee and a bakery item. The hot buns outside are an apres ski must.

High quality and beautiful looking coffee, yummy gelato, cinnamon rolls and I loved the oyaki (steamed buns). We loved it for breakfast & apres ski.
