The Chartreuse hotel’s fantastic osteria is an absolute unmissable restaurant on the outskirts of Thun. The menu is not too large which means really freshly prepared meals from high quality ingredients. On the contrary the drinks list is wonderfully extensive with great Italian wine choices. The caponata and the saffron risotto were absolute standouts. The osteria also has a really great atmosphere so a perfect venue for special events.

Very good Italian restaurant attached to the hotel

My wife and I stayed at the hotel & ate here on a Wednesday evening. Food was very good and we would eat here again. Service was very hospitable and accommodating since I have a gluten intolerance (need gluten-free). They were very helpful in identifying menu items to eat and had some very good options. Very nice evening on the patio and was perfect for a date night setting. I attached pictures and reviews of the food but overall we were very happy and will come back if we’re able to visit the Thun area again!

Nice restaurant

Nice restaurant. 1.2 miles away from old town but a nice walk along the lake promenade to the restaurant. No English menu, but one waiter was able to translate. Good service and good food, especially the borratta salad and the octopus entree- very tender. On the pricey side.

A must during a visit to Thun

This restaurant was a highlight of our weekend in Thun. Beautiful large, shaded garden and terrace and a small but high quality daily 3 or 4 course Italian-inspired style menu and an excellent wine list. I had the cold octopus and potato salad, primo of fresh pasta with duck bolognese, secondo of game hen, then shared a dessert plate with panna cotta and three types of chocolate mousse -- all perfect. The owners helped serve and answered questions about the wine and menu and all staff were very friendly and attentive. It's a short drive from Thun but has plenty of free parking, or a 20 minute walk on a pedestrian/bike path along the lake.

Group of 20 people. Really lovely room with the long table. Perfect lighting, perfect atmosphere. Food was excellent and the service even better.

Delightful dinner and overnight

We went to the Osteria over the week-end for an overnight and a dinner. It is a beautiful institution and the food was outstanding. The food was refined, tasty and plentiful. Superb menu to choose from. The service was delicate and full of attention. We directly felt at ease: it is both elegant and informal - an ideal combination with a well-understood Italian flair. We felt like in Italy. The dinner rooms are full of charm, and the Italian wine collection is great - plus you can choose your wine directly from the shelves! An idea: taking two half bottles to compare two regions at the same time. The garden is very calming and there are many details that remind of the Italian savoir-vivre, it was perfect for an apéro (and will be great for al fresco dining in summer months). The hotel rooms are also pretty and the bathroom is to a luxurious modern standard (kudos to the shampoo products). The breakfast is also delicious. We will come back with pleasure.

Charm, wonderful staff and owner, value for money, great wine and most important of all - delicious, filling food. This restaurant has it all! My girlfriend and I were visiting the Interlaken area on holiday and were looking for a place for dinner. After not finding many open and good looking options, we are so happy we came across Chartreuse. The food was to die for. We loved every dish, especially the melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked beef ribs and the creamy (enormous!) risotto. A huge huge huge thank you to the owner and your team. You have a winning recipe in Chartreuse, especially with the generous warmth and kindness you include, and we will definitely be back.

Excellent hotel and the Owner Mr.Pascal

I stayed with my family including 3 kids in his hotel....rooms and breakfast was really the best. All the staffs were really professional and ready to help us whenever required. Especially Mr.Pascal , the owner of the hotel , he treated us like a family and he was so friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back and stay again in future. Highly recommended for families with kids.

We were staying here as friends on a motorbike trip. We wanted to watch the champions league final but there was no tv. They prepared a room for us, setup a tv, and everything was perfect. Food, wine... great place

If you work your way through the set menu you will be absolutely stuffed! The food is very good, with interesting flavours and ingredients. You can select to have less courses (I think there were 5 in total!) but it would be hard to say which one to miss. The wine cellar is extensively stocked with various wineries on offer, from many countries. Delicious food which was a bit pricey but worth treating yourself with!

A former Family run Business is back to a new Glory.....

The Chartreuse has been known to me for many years. Way back it used to be run by a family, then sold. After some "flat years" it has come under the direction of its present young ambitious Hotel Director which has done a wonderful and daring job managing to bring back this nice property with ample parking to a new Glory. The Hotel and Restaurant are run in a very cost efficient way and it carries the personal touch of its Director throughout. Don't expect to find a fancy Check-In Lounge, or a Menu List in the Restaurant which resembles a book.... No, in fact you can find yourself standing in front of a closed Hotel Entrance and may need to use a steel phone hanging there because no-one is on the premises. And their Restaurant is only "semi-open" for Breakfast and only for overnight guests. If you slept there don't expect here non other then a wonderful Hearty Traditional Swiss Buffet Breakfast with a nicely fresh brewed coffee, Tea or Chocolate Drink. All may be served or assisted by the same lady which later is cleaning your Room. And don't bother to come back for Lunch, its closed for Lunch. The Chartreuse Restaurant is only open to the Public for Dinner specializing in Italian Dishes Its Daily Menu is written by hand on Charcoal boards hanging from the walls. You have the choice of a 2 or 3 main courses with limited choice options to choose from. But rest assured that what you order, is prepared with loving care and served to its perfection in a Gourmet style fashion. A daring concept created by a truly profesional young couple which love what they are doing. The result? The Restaurant is being highly frequented by locals. So make sure to reserve if you want to have a special Dinner experience. If you have smaller children they are also helpful to suggest some alternative limited dish choices for them. So only to experience this new Hotel/Restaurant Concept which is working with the precision of a Swiss Watch, it is worth a visit. Take your children there and ask them what they find different from other places you frequent. I was amazed how my 12 year old daughter did her maths on this hospitality concept which allows the operators to run a "tight ship" while at the same time providing a no "non-sense concept" for its Hotel operation and provide what is developing to become (or already is) among the top Italian Gourmet Dining Places in the Thun area. The result is in my personal view is spectacular. Truly a New Awakening for the "Chartreuse", all run by young professionals with Swiss cost effective efficiency and personalized service.

Bike Trip Stopover

Stopped here for 1 night whilst on a bike road trip through Switzerland, Italy and France and had a very warm welcome. We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant and although we were looking forward to a traditional Swiss meal, the Italian meal was very good with plenty of Birra Morreti at your disposal! The only thing I would comment on was that the bed wasn't overly comfortable but for 1 night, this wasn't too much of an issue and would certainly recommend the Chartreuse as a place to stay.
