We went here on our first night in Melbourne. The menu is absolutely amazing - the best vegan restaurant we have found in Australia and New Zealand. Service needs to be worked on in terms of promptness and politeness, but can see past this because of how good the menu is.

Love this place is 100% plant base! Beautiful flavorsome plant base gelato and cakes. Fantastic delicious flavors, l had the honeycomb and cookie dough vegan gelato. Absolutely delicious and l recommend it’s the best stop off for desert or just a gelato on a cone. So many cakes on offer, l had to bring some home for later. Great job guys, it’s sooooo good to walk into a shop and you can eat everything on the menu, highly recommend you swing by this place, you won’t be disappointed 💚🌿

So we COVID-19 check in, girl welcomed us and was really nice. We were escorted to our table and then it begins. Our son had the menu already on the phone from his past visits. Menu comes up, also reading glasses come out and then it goes back and forth. Find a dish, click on dish, don't like it back to menu then it asked multiple questions before one orders. Next person, same again. Overall it took us 15 min to have ordered 4 dishes. After that you have to give them your credit card details. Also I could not see on their web site where I could pay in cash if I choose too.

My friends and I went to Veggie Bar for my friends bridal lunch. We wanted it to be special however it was anything but. The food was average. Not one of us finished our meals. I ordered gnocchi although what I received was rubber served with rock hard vegetables. Collectively with entrees, mains and drinks 6 of us spent $250. My friend had biscuits made to celebrate her wedding to be and we all enjoyed one each, and after we had finished we were very rudely told we had to pay an additional $24 for eating the cookies inside their establishment. $24 for cookies!!!! (Photo attached) The staff were well aware what we were celebrating and all but one was rude to us throughout the duration of our meal. The bride to be was happy to pay for the cakery but questioned if $24 was a bit steep since we only had a biscuit and had already spent $250. In return she was spoken down too at her own bridal party and made to feel bad. As someone who works in the hospitality industry I know it’s not that hard to smile. Some days are long and testing but if you can’t put on a smile and do you job maybe you should find another one. In summary even if the food was good I wouldn’t be returning due to the extremely poor service we received. Would not recommend

Honestly so disappointed, have dined here previously and thought it would be the perfect spot to celebrate my bridal lunch. But the customer service was awful from the start. My best friend called to book, only to be abruptly told she needed to do so online. Upon arriving, we clearly had a box of sugar cookies with us which were left in the middle of the table until we moved it when the food was placed. Food was average, service was definitely not memorable but we were seated in a nice quiet part of the restaurant. My 11 month old daughter was with us and I sat her on the ground to stretch as she’d been sitting for a while, and within 2 minutes she’d found a large piece of broken glass that I quickly took off her. Anyway, after lunch I handed out a sugar cookie to each of the girls (8) as a little thank you gift. Half way through eating them we were approached and told that we would be charged a $4 per person cake fee. I later went and spoke to the manager explaining that it was never mentioned that a charge would apply for bringing in sweets as a gift and nothing was listed on the menu or booking confirmation either. Maybe if they spoke to customers over the phone they could ask if there is anything else that’s needed to be noted down (e.g. BYO sweets) and this charge could be explains. Our bill was over $250 and she was just not willing to deduct the $24 charge for having the sweets, or even offer a discount. Working in a restaurant myself, I understand that there is sometimes fees for BYO’s cakes because they require extra plates, napkins, cutlery and labour. Being that we did not require any of this, I was shocked that a $4 per person fee was still applied. This whole experience just made the day a little bleak, and we will not be coming back because the customer service - Which should be most important - was completely absent.

I have loved this place for years. I had a delish Mee Goreng last night. I had asked the waitress if the dish had coriander in it because I can’t eat it. She said there was but suggested I try it anyway because it was only a bit in the sauce and you couldn’t taste it. I was a bit scared but decided to go with her suggestion and got it anyway. So glad I did because it was seriously delicious and she was right about not tasting the coriander. I loved it. Had been there a few days earlier and got the ‘La Zuccotta’ pizza and that was just as great. Staff are all lovely and have their own unique styles. Love it all…long live vegie bar xox

The range of dishes looked good and the interior decor was very comfortable. I was brought a bottle of water with my menu and it did not take me long to chose the Mexican Burrito. It was well filled and well priced. The brown rice was in good quantities, too and came with guacamole and sour cream. It was a very tasty lunch and very filling.

I loved everything on the menu, the food is amazing, as a vegan I cannot reccomend this place anymore highly. But when it came to bathrooms it seemed they had the opportunity to label their middle, single cubicle bathroom as unisex and they did not. Perhaps they haven't been presented with the opportunity, but as a non-binary person I would request you make a unisex/ungendered bathroom available to people who don't identify as male and female. Thank you 🥰

Slowly slowly I’m moving towards more veggie days and dining at this place makes it so much easier as been coming here for a long time and never dissatisfied or had a bad experience but we’re all human after all. Fresh, tasty & bold flavours with a great ambience in the courtyard which is becoming my fav at the moment. Until the next time!

Great atmosphere, service and location but the food has gone downhill. Ordered an artichoke salad that came out looking and tasting like disappointing leftovers and berry smoothie that tasted like unripe banana with raspberry seeds. Staff were so lovely though so a great night with friends.

This used to be one of our go to places, with an extensive menu and lots of amazing options. Now there is a limited menu and the dishes that remain (like burritos) were a big dissapointment. Others must feel the same way, normally it is hard to get a seat but the place on a Thursday lunch was pretty empty. Is it under new management? Sorry Vegie Bar we loved you but we will have to find a new Fitzroy fav.

Loved the food here. Friendly and efficient service and a good atmosphere. We had the spring rolls, beautiful mango lassis with coconut yoghurt and apple juice,, mee goreng and the vegetable stir fry. All the food was well prepared and presented. It was hard to choose which dish and I wish I’d been in Melbourne longer so I could have returned to sample more. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

The food was really good, and lots of it. The extensive menu of vegan options was fantastic. The contactless ordering was a bit difficult, and hard to tell when the order was completed so much so that one of our party did not order when they thought they had. The disinterested and downright spacey waiter took a little shine off the general experience too.

What has happened to the famous Vegie Bar in recent times? It is regrettable to write this report but I feel the feedback may assist. This use to be my favourite best place to eat in Melbourne- however it seems to have lost its edge on innovation and flavour. Today we had; Kimchi soup$15, so salty I couldn’t finish it. Dumplings arrived lukewarm. Salad sunchoke pretty bland. Just very average all around. Will the Nachos ever return to the menu? Veggie Bar’s use to be the best version in Melbourne! I appreciate the vegan and gluten free greatly as I have a number of allergies, however Vegie Bar is longer all vegan, which is a shame such !! I have a serious dairy allergy and Vegie Bar was once a safe haven, but no longer. Please consider reverting back to 100% vegan and review your menu 🙏 Girls and Boys Ice-creams did not fail to disappoint - still amazing but I’d like to see the coffee flavour back.

Fitzroy
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
