Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place has very delicious local food and always fresh. Not super relaxing for dining but a great option for a quick and delicious roadside meal.

A must stop if you're driving you highway 34. Our driver recommended that place for lunch (on the way from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio). Our criteria was - fast, cheap, local and good quality. This place fit the bill nicely. We went for buffet -...you choose your meat and sides, and you can go several times for the salad bar, fruits and soft drinks. The place was packed with locals. I loved their seafood choices (shrimp and fish). Highly recommend to stop there.More

i saw someone eating a burrito and i asked them where they got it. they said they bought it at marea baja and it cost 1600 colones ($3). i went to marea baja, ordered the chicken burrito to go, the same burrito arrived and they...charged me 4500 colones ($9) because i am a foreigner. the burrito is tiny, it looks like quarter of a regular burrito. i will never eat at marea baja again. More

The "ticos" love to eat at small local buffets called sodas. Don't travel all the way to Costa Rica and not sample the local food. If you are anywhere near Herradura or Jaco', you MUST stop on the main highway (34) and eat at Soda...Marea Baja. It should be easy to spot. It will be full of people enjoying Gallo Pinto, amazing fish, delicious chicken, fried plantains, shredded cabbage salad, and unlimited refills of fresh fruit juices. Try it for breakfast, too. The smoked ham goes great with fresh scrambled eggs and tortillas. After a great meal, you'll be shocked at how inexpensive your meal was.More

We went with a local who helped us choose food on the buffet. Everything was delicious ... beans and rice, shrimp with rice, chorizo, vegetable lasagna, potatoes, ceviche, beef, fried or grilled chicken, plus much more. All of us were happy with the food and...will return. Mi gusta mucho!More

We ate here almost every day my boyfriend could not get enough of this place. Their menu changes slightly everyday and they serve pork, chicken, beef and fish. The food is traditional Rico food and everything is kept very clean. Their menu also includes all...you can drinks juices and sometimes tea and a salad bar is all you can eat. A great value for about $6 all the locals eat here and the parking lot is almost always full. Well worth a visit when your in town.More

Every time I go they charge me the "Gringo Price". I just paid 2,900 for the worst gallo pinto, floppy nasty bacon, and over-cooked disgusting egg. Yeaaaaaaah bhaaaaaaaaady. This place used to be the go to, now that just suck.

Our local driver took us to eat at this place as we were starving when we landed and just wanted something cheap and quick. We were very pleasantly surprised with the food quality! For $10/person, we got to choose an entire plate of food (meats,...veg, carb), plus salad bar, a drink, and a bowl of ceviche! The gallo pinto was soo good, as well as the chicken, and the ceviche! I don't think you could go wrong with anything you ate here. There is no English spoken here, so make sure you brush up on your Spanish before going in!More

Convenient location right off the highway. Food is always fresh due to the volume of people who eat there and the need to constantly prepare new food. Inexpensive ($5-$6 and you'll be full), fast service (although during peak hours there can be a lineup), live...music frequently. Bustling yet somehow at the same time relaxed atmosphere. Go for the all-you-can-eat salad bar if you have an appetite and you can stuff your face full of their salads (usually banana ceviche, garbanzo/bean salad, pasta salad, etc.. all delicious). All-you-can-drink fruit juices (they usually have 4 varieties or so to choose from) are awesome! One of my favorite places to eat comida tipica in Costa Rica... great value and good food. Solid restaurant all around and open 24 hours.More

Loved this place. A must go to in the Jaco area. You'll spend a lot more on the beach. If you're looking for great local food at local prices, this is your place. It's a cafeteria style so just point to what you want -...lots of variety. Two plates full of deliciousness and two unlimited refill naturals for under 10,000 colons.More

Stopped in twice for late lunches and were pleased both times. Not five star but that's not what sodas are for. Really good typical Costa Rica food and plenty of it. Great selection's and a quick cafeteria style line gets you your food quick. Chicken,...pork, beef, beans & rice only start the list of offerings. A plus is the cold salad bar where you can help yourself after you get your plate. Free refills on your drink and friendly personnel that will help you when you don't really know the procedure will make you feel at home. Just look for the semi trucks along route 34, the universal sign of a good place to eat, open 24/7.More
