We had watched the BBC serial "Top of the Lake" not to mention the "Lord of the Rings" and decided that the stunning scenery and the Dart River was worth the tortuous journey and found Kinloch Lodge as the nearest place to stay. The scenery along the lakeside from Queenstown to Glen Orchy is very grand but still you have... More

We only had coffee and carrot cake here - but it was definitely the best carrot cake ever. A lovely place to sit and look at the lake - near plenty of walks. Good range of accommodation in nicely restored historic building.

We toured the South Island in a campervan so pulled into the campsite near Kinloch Lodge for a night. We stopped in the lodge for happy hour and sat on the patio watching the sunset as we enjoyed NZ craft beers and wine. (Beware the sandflies in the summer, but the bartender offered us some excellent natural repellent.) After happy... More

My husband and I drove to Kinloch from Glenorchy and ordered coffee and cookies at the restaurant. Great coffee and delicious house made cookies. The waitresses was very friendly. The view sitting in the restaurant was stunning, A gem in the wildness.

We booked into Kinloch Lodge for the night before and the night after our 3 day, 2 night Routeburn /Cables track. The scenery is stunning and our little ensuite room is quaint and lovely. The room includes a generous bath, eco friendly washing products, herbal tea and crisp white bath robes. Perfect.

Delicious dinner we had! You will need to call and pre-order your dish before you go. We had venison stew and chicken, both were so so lovely! Must try their shoestring fries and potato gratin!!! Lots of sandflies at night if you are sitting outside, the lodge provides repellent. Would love to come back again!

We were 3 backpackers staying in the yha part of the lodge. We got a tiny, smelly room that wasn't worth the price. I stayed in many hostels during my stay in NZ and this one was one of the worst. The good thing about this place is the amazing view to the lake.

Few restaurants will stay in your memory like Kinloch Lodge. Its not just the food, which is really good, but the whole experience in a cosy restuarant amidst the moutains, a warm fire and a lovely bottle of wine. Take your time, slow down and enjoy.

Great food, amazing location. Friendly and helpful staff. This lodge and restaurant is hard to get to (miles of gravel roads) but worth it.
