We had our first dinner at Varzea and with an outside table overlooking the old and beautiful part of Aljezur we were pleasantly surprised by the amazing dinner experience. The service was excellent with manager and staff being super attentive and friendly. The outdoor garden was ideal with its stunning views. But the food was over the top. We had delicious fish appetizers and it all came with a complimentary fresh bread basket and dips and olives. The main dishes fish and meat were absolutely incredible and we can't wait to be back here. The prices are very reasonable and we can highly recommend Varzea to anyone visiting or living in the Algarve. Excellent dinner!

Located in the new part of Aljezur, this place is always bustling and full. Outside and inside seating but best in the garden on a summer evening. Service is good and friendly but at busy times staff are running around! Food was excellent, plates to share were tasty and hearty. The pork traditional dishes were refined but still hearty and delicious. All very good value for money around 14 euro. House wine as everywhere in Portugal was very good value and quality at 13 euro a bottle. Overall food quality was excellent, delicious and well thought through. Ate here in two occasions and for sure the best Portuguese place in Aljezur!

Eating out in the south of Portugal may result in falling for tourist traps filled with “meh” meals and overpriced experiences. Varzea located in Aljezur is the reason why you should take your time to discover places in Portugal that are outside of the tourist trap scope. Every plate we ate was amazing and the dessert was truly magnificent. The price of the place v. the experience was totally worth it. In addition, the location of the place and the staff also add up to enjoying the moment.

Friendly service and very tasty food for lunch!
HOWEVER:
Our waiter brought appetizer board with bread before we ordered. We hesitated to accept. It was explained that it was a $4.5 euro charge plus $1 euro for the bread. We only accepted the bread. Later we were charged for the appetizer as a “couvert" on the bill. It was an attempt to charge extra and hide it. They did not get away with it and should not try such tactics.

Completely Over rated. You reach the restaurant and you find an employee that would like to be at a disco or a super restaurant and leaves you waiting 20-30 to seat you after the reserved hour. Service is not great and food is not good. Please avoid “TO SHARE” because are not good ingredients (shrimp, squids,… not fresh). Only Entrecote stands for a good option. Passion fruit sangria and lemonade - please avoid. Dj could be an opportunity but the DJ is not playing chill out / restaurant music, but rather 2-3am disco sound, which can be quite annoying. You have several other options to dine at Aljezur, avoid doing the mistake of eating in Varzea. This is coming from a big fan of Gulli Bistrot, of the same owners, but different level playing field. Varzea should make a big shift if it wants to be sustainable and well remembered restaurant

Good food and good atmosphere but bad reservation system.
They work in shifts and it is true we were told that our slot was 20h to 21-30h but at the end ( with normal delays from sitting down, ordering, getting the food) we were kindly invited to take our desserts at the sofa, partially standing.
It is not worthy to end a meal like that …

Without a doubt, this was one of the best restaurants we had dinner last year. All dishes were VERY tasteful, as well as attractively presented on the plates. They have a lively terrace, covered with trees, and overlooking the garden they use for fresh ingredients. The wine list had a rich choice of all Portugese wines. And above all, staff is very polite and knows how to make contact with their guests. Highly recommended!

My wife and I were pleased to be able to find any place to dine on New Years Eve in Aljezur as many restaurants were closed. We were lucky in finding space in Varzea where we had eaten before but only in summer.
We enjoyed a superb meal in a full restaurant with standard of service excellent considering how many covers were served.
My wife had camarão à Bras which she enjoyed followed by tiramisu.
I had bochechos of porco preto which I can only call divine! I followed with the restaurant own version of mousse chocolate - delicious.
Driving so only 3 glasses of house wine plus couvert, water and one café came to 60 euros.
Simply superb!

Wow this is good! Living close by I cannot understand why we have not visited before.
Stylish ambience including plenty of outside and inside setting is the first impression and lasting pleasure of the food lingers on.
Service was excellent from the plentiful competent and pleasant waiting staff, very little wait for food delivery especially bearing in mind the quality and presentation.
This is not cheap but very good indeed.

We stayed in Aljezur 2 years ago and recall visiting this restaurant and having a good experience. So we decided to do an overnighter so we could also visit Varzea again. Even more impressed this time. Everything is ‘spot on’. The menu is innovative, the quality of food and presentation outstanding and the hard working team seem happy in their work. The restaurant was very busy inside and out but the service was brilliant. They so deserve to be successful.
I reckon a trip to Aljezur when in the Algarve will become a regular jaunt for us!

This is the sister restaurant to Gulli Bistrot, located in Aljezur proper. There are a few free streetside parking spaces and an outdoor garden. It’s a casual setting but the restaurant takes its food seriously; we were quite satisfied with our pork and fish dishes; the curved fries/chips accompanying the pork were phenominal. The Sangria Branca was tops and I would travel back just to drink another glass of it.

Recommended by another restaurant which was closed and certainly grateful of the suggestion.
Very modern interior and nice garden to eat in.
As restaurant owner I can say it’s the best food we have had in Portugal, tuna starter a wow ! and the slow cooked pigs cheek tender in it red wine jus.
I have booked to return..

Restaurant was recomended by a friend. And glad it was! Superb! We ordered dishes from the "to share" part of the menu. All the 4 dishes were superbly executed. Flavours on point, presentation was excellent and amount was enough to satisfy two hungry persons! A MUST visit restaurant!

The menu is deliberately written ambiguously. We ordered beer which costs 2,20€ on the menu and also got beer put down. It tasted like lactic acid, so normally the beer is bad. On request we were told it was stout beer. Stout is Guinness, for example, but our beer was bright and costs 6.50€. On the map, the difference in beer is deliberately stated incorrectly. Normal beer is only available in bottles, but so is not on the menu.
The food was delicious but absolutely mini portions.
Overall, the place is a rip-off!

Almost raw seabass poorly grilled with no salt, bad orange sauce made it uneatable, mousse was supermarket mousse, too sweet and you could feel the grains. Bras Shrimp was barely passable. Service was ok, but awful food.
