Called in to the Lumsden Bafe on a road trip on the recommendation of a couple of Southern folk. A warm welcome and great food. Highly recommended for a casual eat.

Somewhat of a local institution, The Bafe is known for its pies and its donuts. The pie I had was a pretty standard reasonable tasting meat pie. But its the donuts that you ought to try, at the least for the experience. Super rich and sweet they are a meal in themselves. Quirky atmosphere in Bafe as well.

Our accommodation host organised our breakfast here as we were on a tight schedule and they rand to tell us when our meal was almost ready. The breakfast was tasty and huge. My husband ate all his but I admit to making sandwiches out of my toast and leftovers which did me for lunch and dinner.......sorry if you are not... More

On the way to Te Anau we stopped at Bafe bakery to buy a hot pie to warm up as it was a cold day. The pies were good quality with light pastry. We then tried their donuts and especially liked the salted caramel with fresh cream. Definitely would recommend this bakery. Staff were friendly as well.

We stopped here at 10am to get bread for lunch, but couldn't resist a piece of carrot cake for morning tea. Delicious! True home-made treats and run by delightful people.

Was passing through with daughter. Nearly didn't go in as it looked a bit ropey from the outside. However, the sandwiches were fantastic - good ingredients, big value - and the passionfruit and lemon curd muffins were just great. The owner was your typical New Zealander - laconic, friendly, laid back. Was sorely tempted to get more sandwiches to go,... More

We had heard that the savoury pie was NZ's unofficial national dish so we finally picked one up here after 5 days travelling and they were great! Staff were friendly, food was good value and quality and interior was unexpectedly cool! Cakes looked good and wish we'd got some to take away. Would definitely recommend after having some run of...
