Perfect Wedding Venue

We had our wedding here in amongst COVID angst and uncertainty and the team were phenomenal. From the initial viewing right through to the picking up of items the next day, they went above and beyond. Their all inclusive package really does take the pressure off the day and we would highly recommend it. The venue itself is stunning, and has so many options for the different parts of the day. The food was incredible, all our guests commented on it and the team were especially great catering for allergies and intolerances. The team are flexible and accommodating throughout the whole process, and the combination of this with the quality of the venue, food, etc really is well worth the $$. They really know what they're about and pride themselves in making your day perfect. Couldn't recommend them enough!

After Covid having to make us postpone from our original date. Georgia was accommodating to help us move the date without any costs and made things so easy for us. Everyone who attended our wedding raved at how awesome the venue was, the food was and everything about our wedding was awesome. Couldn't have had the day we had without Georgia and the team!

Outstanding service in a beautiful venue that had everyone raving. The food was delicious, with sharing platters ensuring that no one suffered from food envy. Dietary requirements were met and service was seamless. Roaring log fires, romantic candlelight and amazing attention to detail, Thank you to Alessandro and team for helping to create an unforgettable night. The young couples third attempt to get married due to Covid. The staff were so accommodating and patient with all the changes that had to be made.

What a great surprise

Have driven past here at least 50 times in the last 2 years. It wasn’t until my wife told me that she’d heard good things about The Stables. After eating camping food for the last 5 days at Pakiri, we were keen on some food that we didn’t cook ourselves. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we where made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. The choice of food was great, being very international in what was on offer. The kids menu choices were pretty standard, but for anyone with young kids, you’d be aware they were all winners. The kids loved there choices. My wife and I went for the sharing plate option, which we were ecstatic with when the food came out. We had Crispy Pork Bao, Pulled Brisket Tacos and Calamari. All 3 choices were spectacular and substantial in quantity. To top it off, we also made the most of the $10 margaritas- which were very good. Overall a highly recommended restaurant that we will visit again and again. Well done👍

Disappointing experience

We were looking forward to lunch at The Stables but unlikely to return. Crispy skin duck as a main sounded delicious - sadly it was brought to the table cold & the skin wasn't crispy. I seldom send food back but opted to in this instance given the temperature and lack of crispy skin. I was delighted with how quickly my 2nd plate of food arrived, but so disappointed to discover it was no warmer than the 1st one and the crispy skin continued to remain a description on the menu but not on the plate. There are so many amazing restaurant options so I'd suggest giving this one a miss.

We had the pleasure of hosting our mother at the Stables on Sunday 12th June. What a wonderful occasion it was . The staff could not have been more helpful. Nothing but nothing was too much trouble. A beautiful spirit and ambience pervaded the venue. The roaring fire , the many flickering candles , the table settings the exceptional wait staff - Ale , Jose ( Zee) and Georgia. The fact that we had access to half of the large venue space enabled us to set up a Kids play corner. Brilliant in that the 7 young children in attendance could be happily occupied inside when the weather conditions were unfavourable for outdoor play. The food portions were large , beautifully presented and tasty. Highly recommend The Stables venue for celebrating special occasions.

My wife and I had our wedding reception at the Stables in December and it was such an amazing night. Georgia was super helpful at organizing the event and overlooking everything. The staff at the restaurant were super friendly and polite, and took care of everything during the reception. The Stables did a great job at creating a romantic atmosphere and the food was great! If we could do it all again, we would not change a thing! We highly recommend this place, and will continue to dine whenever we are in Matakana.

Perfect wedding venue

We had our wedding at The Stables in May 2023 and we couldn’t have imagined it being any more perfect than it was! Nic and the team there made it a perfect and unforgettable experience from planning in the very beginning and right through leading up to our day, nothing was a problem. Very professional, great communication, always willing to help with any demands or requirements we needed. The service, food, and atmosphere on the night was faultless and most guests said it was one of the best venue and wedding they have ever been too. Thank you for making our day the most memorable day of our lives

Well worth the 3 hour journey from Cambridge to sample what The Stables had on offer, & they didn't disappoint. Meals cooked to perfection, we had the ribs & steak combo, to die for, so succulent, followed by an amazing Panna Cotta desert, & complimented by a first class service in lovely surroundings. Thanks to all at the stables

1000% recommended as a wedding venue! We had the most amazing day, nothing was a problem for the staff and they were easily able to accommodate a slight change to the service time. They changed wedding coordinators in the lead up to the wedding and it was so flawless. Nic was amazing to deal with and they made our wedding so stress free. Even accommodating for me (the bride) being pregnant and getting non alcoholic bubbles in for me to enjoy. The food was delicious and they set our decorations up so perfectly! I could rave on about them for another few pages but you get the point!

I’m not sure where to start for this absolutely incredible experience. My husband and I had the wedding of our dreams at The Stables Matakana. When beginning to look around for venues, I had done a quick Google search for places which accommodate small weddings near Auckland. The stables was the first venue I chose to peruse. I decided to call and book a viewing. The lovely Georgia (who was very quick to respond) met with us that day and the minute I spoke with Georgia about my vision, I knew we had found our location. Honestly, absolutely everything provided exceeded our hopes and expectations. The entire process of planning was so easy – made seamless by Georgia and Nic (who is also hard-working and very sweet). On the day Kim & Zen stepped in to help out and made every effort to accommodate us in every way to make it the most special day for us. Our reception was just beautiful. The table settings were gorgeous, the drinks were perfect, and the plated meals and their presentation were outstanding. I love that The Stables packages include the linens, plates, silverware, glassware – we didn’t have to stress about a thing! Speaking of the packages offered, The Stables has amazing options for any budget! During the reception, the staff were amazing and kind to everyone, and treated us, literally, like royalty. Our friends and family raved for weeks about how incredible everything was, saying it was the perfect mix of class and unpretentiousness. I cannot recommend this venue, and all of its staff, enough. I wish we could host more events there! A million thanks to Georgia, Nic, Kim and Zen for giving us an unbelievable day, and memories we will cherish for a lifetime.

A beautiful day and location for the wedding. Travelled to New Zealand from England for family wedding. Very hot day. The barn was stunning with a great outdoor space. Canapés and drinks served before the meal. Staff friendly and helpful. Food was hot and well presented. I had the pork belly which was delicious. Anyone who is thinking of a wedding venue in the area should consider this as an option. A great day and evening had by all.

Wedding Reception

We had a small wedding reception in the Garden Room of the Smith's Bar. The food platters were outstanding and the service top quality. The Garden Room is the perfect intimate venue for a small function. We would not hesitate to recommend this as a venue and will definitely be back. Thank you to Nic and your team.

Lovely location by the water. Helpful staff and good food. We were fortunate that Greg at Arcadia Lodge (fabulous place to stay) had booked a table for us as it is always busy. Not an extensive menu but well cooked.

Italian degustation

Easily the worst meal I’ve had to endure. Overpriced unimaginative overcooked Italia degustation that didn’t resemble anything from Italy where I lived for three years. Tragic.
