We needed a coffee break in Collingwood and discovered the pretty little house... An idyllic place with a garden (regrettably it was a chilly day), Wellington boots at the front door... It was only 11 am but the main room was busy with people having lunch. Too early for us and so we just ordered two long blacks, a scone and a slice of carrot cake and got us a table in the adjoining room. The pastry was delicious, the staff was nice and we loved the funny bric-a-brac on display (for sale) on the shelves and in the glass cabinet.

It was a beautiful day so we sat outside on dawn off logs for seats, around a table that easily accommodated the 6 of us. The coffee was good and they were able to provide soy milk alternatives for the two lactose intolerant group members. There was even a small nail polish tucked into the plant in the centre of the table, if you felt so inclined while you enjoyed the beautiful weather and atmosphere.

The Courthouse Cafe was a real gem. Pies made at the cafe were wonderful. The dish of the day was Penne with courgettes and bacon.....delicious! The coffee was excellent. And there were interesting people eating there at lunchtime both locals and Visitors who were all keen to chat. Very good experience......and the staff were very friendly!

We must have visited on a bad day. We ordered coffee and scones. The coffee was great however the scones were not. The scones were like rock cakes even heated up. I thought my homemade scones were bad and i wouldn't sell mine and these were worse - which made us laugh. On the bright side the serving staff were lovely and a pleasant setting outside.

A bit of flair in some of their dishes, not all liked by my wife (to my advantage!). I was disappointed by the paucity of dates in my scone, but the scone itself was very light and fresh. Wonderful ginger slice and carrot cake. And the coffee...the coffee was great. Always a plus when it is served hot, and with great taste. Thank you! I'll gladly be sentenced to custody on the grounds of enjoying your coffee! Please have soap in both bathrooms though.

We enjoyed this place so much 18 months ago that we decided to try it again on a visit this past weekend. I am a Carrot Cake lover and recall it being good last time but this time I was sadly disappointed as it was very dry and tasteless. What a shame. Husband enjoyed his cheese and ham croissant though and the staff were very pleasant.

We have been hereseveral imes and have always had a great experince with the food and service. It is a small place, in a small town, in a very remote part of New Zealand. But it feels like paradise and the food is right up there with the bigger noisier places. If you are passing through or staying in the region this is absolutely the "go to" lunch spot. The location is amazing - eat in the garden if the weather permits - which it almost always does. We seriously recommend - they have never let us down!!!

We visited twice in 2 days - hot drinks and cakes for our first visit and brekkie on the second visit. The cakes were very yummy (carrot cake and a decadent chocolate cake). Also thoroughly enjoyed the waffles with fruit and bacon for breakfast. Friendly, efficient service and a cute historic building.

My wife and I had a lovely cup of coffee and a snack here. The staff were brilliant, especially as they were coping with COVID Level 2 restrictions, the coffee was delicious, and the snacks were home made and wonderful. Couple all of that with a beautiful heritage building, great gardens to sit in, and you have the perfect mix for a great place to rest and eat.

The best big cooked breakfast I have EVER had! From the 'in-house' baked beans to the proper sausage it was beautiful. The coffee was also excellent - would stack up very well against many good Wellington cafes.

Saturday pizza is amazing! The chef certainly makes an authentic pizza in that the base is like a real Neapolitan one, fluffy and chewy. Since our trip to Italy in July, we were quite disappointed in the pizzas on return to NZ( the worst being the one in Martinborough) so it was with huge surprise that our “ Accused” ( pizzas with appropriate “ courthouse “ names) as well as garlic pizzas were so delicious. The sizes are great ($28 for pizzas an $8 for garlic pizza bread) as I am a big eater so I was doubly impressed with the size and quality. If this chef continues, the courthouse cafe’s Saturday night pizzas will become a destination eatery!! Well done you guys!

Brilliant food in a lovely old building, friendly service, great coffee. If you are able to, get pizzas on Saturday night. Absolutely delicious. We also had breakfast (eggs bene with salmon-perfect) and the avocado smash - also delicious. Scones and scrolls also great.

We found this quant cafe by chance. It’s an indoor - outdoor affair which is suitable for both summer and winter whether just ducking in for a coffee/tea and a snack or to sit down and enjoy something to eat, it’s a delightful spot. Staff are warm and helpful. The food delicious. Highly recommend popping in.

Excellent lunch and great service. The best lunch spot in Golden Bay? Probably. I had the flounder/fish of the day, family members had the salmon and pork belly. Lovely building and location.

We stopped at this lovely place along the drive from north to south. It is not far from the main Highway and well worth a visit. The small town of Collingwood and the courthouse cafe are just 500m next to Highway 60. We enjoyed easy parking with a big camper van in front of the cafe. Both inside and outside is enough space to get settled. However, wildlife (birds) outside can be an issue when you order food. We decided to stay inside and had eggs, an omelet, cake, and coffee. So far this has been one of our better cafe experiences in New Zealand. The beach is around the corner (walking distance (100-200m).

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, it is great to get such positive feedback 😀 We hope you drop in on us again sometime soon. We now have some waterpistols to keep the seagulls away from guests food!
