Great staff and fish & chips good but the mussel chowder was so disappointing. For a town where mussels are aplenty there were none to be seen in our chowder. Sadly it was also very floury tasting and all in all less than average. We...only discovered Mills Bay after we had finished lunch. My advice is head to Mills Bay instead. Their food looked fabulous.More

Last night's dinner at the Mussel Pot should have been a leisurely experience. Saturday night in Havelock - we arrived for our 7.15pm dinner booking. Staff and service overall was cordial. And the food was good. However the pressure to order very quickly, and the...extremely speedy delivery of food and drink made it clear that the restaurant wanted us in, and then out, very quickly. Even though it wasn't rude - we felt uncomfortable and unwelcome - just another 'tourist transaction'.More

I can’t fault this place. Great staff, and service to match. Mussels and calamari are HUGE and very tasty. Good wine and beer selection. Bathrooms excellent - you could eat in there quite comfortably - very clean. We used this place just for a starter...before moving on to the Captain’s Daughter for our main. We may well come back for our pudding - inviting menu there too 😊More

Not into mussels, the salmon and burgers were beautiful, nice chilled water really available, lovely courtyard, excellent food. Ideal.

Had to try the mussel tasting platter. We were both disappointed in the chowder (tasted like flour and parsley) and the white wine/garlic sauce in the steamed mussels was an odd flavour. Sorry to be picky, just expected more after reading the reviews. The rest...was lovely, and nice venue out the back in the courtyard.More

Oh gosh! The food was amazing, staff friendly and very reasonably priced. For someone who never used to be a big fish fan, this place really did blow me away.

We were really lucky to get a table as it was so busy. Grateful we did as it was a fabulous meal. We shared the Mussel Tasting plate which even converted my partner who is not fond of them! I had the steamed with white...wine cream and they were very fresh. The waitresses were super lovely - down to earth hospitable kiwis. Great experienceMore

We heard about this place along our travels and decided to book in on our way through Havelock. We are glad we booked as it was a pretty busy lunch service. We ordered the platter with all different types of mussels and also got a...mussel chowder each. Everything was super delicious. The mussel chowder was a stand out - it came with lovely soft bread too🙂 All of the mussels were cooked beautifully and my husband really enjoyed the tartare sauce too!More

The standard of food here hasn't changed in 15 years which was the last time I ate here (the restaurant was then under another name). It's excellent. I have only tried the mussels but my wife had the salmon with Penne which was also wonderful.
