In Atlanta, it’s a known fact that bars come and go faster than a Soundcloud rapper’s career. And depending on how you feel about said bar, that may not be a bad thing. But there’s something special about these ATL bars that can withstand the test of...

Old Montreal and 20 more locationsYesterday
Montreal was once described to me as a little piece of Europe in North America, which for a teenager obsessed with the movie Amélie and desperate to get the hell out of dodge, was all I needed to know. Certainly, Quebec’s largest city has all the signifiers of Elsewhere, with the cobblestone streets, narrow alleys, and shop signs not written in English. But it was only once I’d visited a few times that I discovered Montreal has another side, separate from the tourist charms of the Old Town.

Portugal has enticed more and more travelers in recent years, and no wonder -- it’s affordable, it’s adventurous, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Most first-time visitors focus on the capital, Lisbon, so for better or worse, other areas have remained somewhat sheltered. That’s changing now. Lisbon continues to be fantastic (and still a relatively under-visited European city) but if you’re thinking about traveling to Portugal, you should be thinking about Porto.

Washington, DC may still not have the reputation of the top echelon of American sports cities, but that doesn’t mean it’s a boring town for fans. Our Capitals sit on top of the NHL after winning the Stanley Cup this summer. DC United is playing in a...

Whales! Actually seeing them in the wild does us the rare favor of short-circuiting our brains. Since childhood we’ve thought of whales with an abstract, mathematical conception of scale that in no way prepares us to confront how truly massive they are in real life.
