Bula Vinaka Karen- Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Crusoe’s Retreat. It is quite apparent and very unfortunate that Crusoe’s Retreat was truly a bad fit for the three of you - young single women, who would have been better suited to a larger resort property, and seeking a much more exciting nightlife. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Beachcomber Island, which is very, very different from the experience that we provide at Crusoe’s Retreat. While Beachcomber is conducive to young people and parties, Crusoe’s Retreat is a much more subdued, adults-oriented resort where our guests are seeking privacy, seclusion, and a truly relaxing Fijian beach holiday. We do not now, nor have we ever, advertised Crusoe’s Retreat as a resort with a loud and lively nightlife. Quite the opposite. While we very much appreciate your feedback about your stay, we do want to respond to some of the items you addressed: - We apologize for the mixup in bure assignments, and we did profusely apologize and did everything possible to fix the situation in a timely manner. - The Activities at Crusoe’s Retreat are quite extensive, especially for such a small, intimate resort, and unlike many other properties, has a focus on local Fijian customs and traditions. We are very proud of our Activities Staff, and we feel you have may misconstrued their laid-back Fijian attitude for disinterest. Most guests staying at Crusoe’s Retreat have chosen us as their destination because we provide a relaxed, casual, traditional Fijian beach holiday. Many of our guests simply want to be left alone and not constantly pestered during their stay. As such, we have trained our staff to not be intrusive into our guests’ holiday, but rather be around and available when guests may need us. You seem to have confused this with disinterest and rudeness, and for this we feel bad. - Thanks for your kind words about Ritchie and our great scuba diving - we are very pleased to read that you enjoyed it. - The Happy Hour at Crusoe’s Retreat is very popular with our guests, as it gives them an opportunity to sit back, relax, enjoy the company of fellow guests, and witness our breathtaking Fijian sunsets. Our drink specials during Happy Hour (which is from 12p-1p and 5:30p-7:00p) are accompanied by a guitar-playing serenader - we are not sure how you may have missed this, as we have live music at every Happy Hour. When you arrived at our thatched-roof pool bar at 6p, our Bartender was running a quick errand to the main bar in the restaurant. The pool bar was not closed - the bartender was just away on an errand. It was quite apparent that you were looking for more of a rowdy, nightclub ambiance, instead of our relaxed, casual, friendly sunset happy hour experience (as evidenced by you spending $300 on drinks in one hour). When dinner service starts at 7p, we usually move our bartender to the main bar near our restaurant, so they are able to service guests enjoying their dinner. - We are happy to read that you enjoyed your meals in our restaurant, but sorry to hear that you found our meals to be expensive. Our meals and meal plan are priced very appropriately for a 3-star resort. Our meal plan, which includes tropical buffet breakfast, 1-course lunch, afternoon tea and snacks, and 2-course or buffet dinner is only FJD$64 per person per day, or the equivalent of AUD$36. We suspect you would be very hard pressed to eat out in Brisbane for $36 per day. - The sunset cruise that we had scheduled was unfortunately cancelled due to poor weather. We apologize, and as much as we wish we could, we simply can not control the weather. - We thank you for your kind words and special thanks to our staff, despite you having referred to them as unhappy and unfriendly. - Your comments about our Resort Manager are unfair and quite unfounded. Helen did make herself available to you throughout your stay, and tried repeatedly to contact you in your bure, but you were away. During the day, and into the early evening, Helen makes herself available to all of our guests, to answer any questions or concerns they may have, and to ensure they are enjoying their Crusoe’s Retreat experience. Helen did have some close family and friends visiting her, and during her off time late one evening, and in her own personal and private residence, she entertained them. It was unfortunate and inappropriate for the three of you to arrive unannounced (and uninvited) at her private residence and ask to party with them. We have two bars at Crusoe’s Retreat, which is where we ask that our guests socialize and enjoy their time. Our Resort Manager and all of our local Fijian staff deserve their own private lives outside of the resort, and we must ask and insist that you and all guests respect their privacy and wishes when they are not on duty working at the resort. We are so very proud of our management and entire staff, who work very hard and do an exceptional job. We must also give them the space to relax and spend time with their families when they are not working. Again, we are sorry that Crusoe’s Retreat was not the right fit for you. We probably should have recommended that you move to another resort more suited to what your desires, but instead we did our best to try to ensure that you enjoyed your stay while at Crusoe’s. We thank you again for your feedback.
