In 1892 two new Poncelet Waterwheels were installed at Eling Mill. One still drives a set of Millstones when the water level outside permits. Another pair of Millstones forms a static exhibit, demonstrating how they were operated by the Miller to produce high-grade flour of consistent quality.
At high tide (when the Mill isn't able to work) it's possible to sail a small boat up Eling Creek and to moor it right outside the building! The point where Bartley Water joins Southampton Water is very popular with yachtsmen (and women) as it's handy for the adjacent Quay/Anchor Inn public house!
Eling Tide Mill is situated near the junction of Eling Creek with Southampton Water, in the village of Totton, close to the New Forest National Park, near the "Anchor Inn" pub. It can be reached on foot from Totton Station, on the electrified mainline railway between Southampton and Bournemouth.

Very basic, if the mill isn't working

Thank you for you feedback, it is really useful to us as we are currently in the development phase of an HLF lottery bid and are looking and ways to enhance the visitor experience, including what we can offer if the mill isn't working (due to tidal restraints). I am sorry that you did not find that the tea rooms offered value for money, again we will be reviewing our offering. Hopefully you will keep an eye out on the progress with our lottery application and come and visit us again once we are relaunched.
