Good Or Evil? You Decide on Trinity
Our visit to the museum and the surrounding houses used by scientists in the Trinity Project, was compelling. The duality of the moral dilemma scientists - including Oppenheimer - faced is there in black and white. Glimpses of it are evocatively snatched in each house: women who looked through the back door and saw the mushroom cloud rise, and who turned away to the calm kitchens of their abodes. Go to it! It's hard to forget once seen and experienced.

Take the walking tour at 10am. So good!
The museum is small and mostly dedicated to the boys’ school that used to occupy the site, but the real attraction here is the excellent walking tour of the Oppenheimer / Manhattan Project locations nearby. Our guide (Anne Marie, I think!) was excellent, spanning the early history of the area, through the school years and of course the Manhattan Project including the Oppenheimer House. Hearing the stories of life in the Secret Town and anecdotes of those who lived there was terrific. Highly recommend.

The town that changed the course of human history
We visited the Los Alamos museum on the way from Albuquerque to Denver, long before the film was released I have been long interested in nuclear physics so this was always somewhere I wanted to visit. Having been humbled after visiting Hiroshima it was really interesting to see the American side of the story. The museum was only $5 which is great value, there are some interesting exhibitions. There is no doubt Los Alamos changed the course of human history so it is really important for us all to know the power of the atom and it's horrors.

    Great museum and tour
Great museum and exceptional 2 hr walking tour. Guide took us through the grounds of the old school, the dining room and one of the small houses along Bathtub Row. Very informative about the various individuals involved in the Manhattan Project, including the spies and how they operated. Walk was at a reasonable pace, although a couple of times the guide started talking before the last of the (large) group caught up. She answered every question that we threw at her and recommended a number of books that were for sale in the museum. The museum itself was also interesting. Mainly about the history of the buildings. For more history and information about the bombs themselves visit the Bradbury museum a little way down the street. I toured that some years ago and found it very interesting.

Good way to learn about the history of the town
Visited here long ago. Many upgrades since then. Small fee. Spend time in the museum as well as walking around and to the other buildngs, Fuller Lodge, etc. Lots to see. Interesting history lesson. Not going to be of interest to little kids who cannot read well. Good way to learn about the area and the history of the town.

A good overview of the Manhattan Project and its impact on the area.
This is well worth a visit and especially at the nominal admission price of $5. It gives a good introduction of the Manhattan project and has a strong focus on how the project changed the area . The science of the project is well covered by the Bradbury Museum, but the history museum gives a good perspective of the wider picture. The historical society look after a number of properties and this allows you to visit some of the other properties associated with the Manhattan project and not just the small museum itself.

    Take the tour!
The two-hour History of the Secret City tour was the highlight of our trip to Los Alamos. Our tour guides were exceptionally knowledgeable and eager to answer all of our questions. We never would have learned nearly so much if we'd simply walked around on our own. The $25 tour fee was money well spent.

Interesting history of Los Alamos and tour
This is a nice, small museum about Robert Oppenheimer and Los Alamos from the days when it was a ranch school through the Manhattan project. In addition to the main museum building, there are a variety of sights and other buildings to see and go into. Some of them also have exhibits or informational signs to read about the history. You can even see Oppenheimer's house, although you can't go into it yet (as of September 2024). They are raising funds to renovate it and eventually open it to the public. However, you can look into the windows and see furniture that was created as props for the recent film Oppenheimer. The movie studio donated the furniture to the museum. We did the History of the Secret City tour, which was pretty interesting and takes you around all of the main buildings. You hear a lot of stories about Los Alamos and also about the making of the movie Oppenheimer which was filmed here.

Spur of the moment side trip
We were in Albuquerque for the international balloon festival and were looking for things to do on an off afternoon. Because our son is a nuclear engineer and we’ve seen the movie Oppenheimer we were interested in going. The museum was staffed with lovely people and we enjoyed a nice indoor outdoor experience. I especially liked the lodge and feeling like I stepped back in time.
