Hotels near Gaylord Opryland Garden Conservatory

Nashville's Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center has earned an international reputation for its service and amenities but is equally well known for its nine acres of lavish indoor gardens. Boasting 50,000 tropical plants, rare international blooms and romantic Southern species, the horticultural displays at Gaylord Opryland are among the most exquisite in the world. Meticulously selected and lovingly maintained by a staff of 20 full-time interior horticulturists, the landscaping is a colorful, year-round paradise tucked inside this amazing resort. Each of the gardens is housed under one of the hotel's soaring atriums, creating a series of breathtaking horticultural wonderlands. An elaborate climate-control system keeps the temperature at 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit year round. Relative humidity stays around 55 percent most of the time. There is also an air exchange system to ensure air in the atriums does not become stale. The system exchanges air four times in a 24-hour period. The Garden Conservatory features a collection of 10,000 tropical plants, representing more than 215 species. Towering palms and banana trees rise 60 feet above the atrium floor. In all, there are 37 different families of trees represented, including ficus, banana trees, palms and a sampling of miniature orange trees. In August 1982, months before opening, a staff of 10 began landscaping the Garden Conservatory, which was at that time one of the largest facilities of its kind in a single, glass-topped room in the world. Many of the taller plants were put in place before construction was completed, in advance of installing the thousands of flowers that add color and texture to the majestic space. It took staff 3 months to install the gardens of the Garden Conservatory Atrium. A precise drip-irrigation system was developed that allows many plants to be watered slowly over the course of several hours. The soil is a special mixture of pine, peat and cypress bark solelite developed specifically for the environment. For the Cascades Atrium, dozens of Florida nurseries were visited before staff selected more than 8200 tropical ornamental plants representing 449 species. Plant varieties range from an Alexandria palm tree towering more than 40 feet high to six-foot-tall ginger bushes and jasminum vines. Sunlight levels are higher in the Cascades than in the Garden Conservatory, providing a sustainable environment for different plant varieties. Beyond the Cascades is the Delta Atrium, an amazing indoor garden with a subtropical feeling. Even though it is an indoor environment, 370 trees and palms--between 20- and 40-feet tall--share space with thousands of smaller plants. To create the appearance of the outdoors, black olive trees and West Indian mahoganies were chosen for their resemblance to oaks. Unlike oaks, they do not shed their leaves. And in true Southern tradition, Spanish moss trails from their imposing branches. Design of the Delta's gardens began two years before the Delta's opening in June 1996. Most of the plants originated in Florida. It took 32 tractor trailers to transport them to their new home in the protected environment of the Delta Atrium. The Delta is a true garden of the South with 120 sabal palms, tall lady palms, camellias, banana trees and cycads. Primary hedging plants are ever-blooming gardenia and camellias pittosporum (both green and variegated). There are 1500 plants representing 30 varieties of camellias in the Delta. Two 40-foot-tall Magnolia grandiflora (Southern magnolias) accent the front of the Delta Mansion. Though we didn’t stay at this resort (we stayed nearby), we visited the gardens and loved every minute! This is a gorgeous and relaxing oasis in the middle of a big resort and huge city. We spent 2-3 hours exploring the Delta and Cascades sections. Gorgeous plants and water features. We took the riverboat tour ($15.99 each, quite reasonable), which was most informative, and had pizza for lunch on a patio overlooking the Delta fountains. Pizza was great, and I can’t remember ever having lunch at a resort for only $15 each before! I would highly recommend this stop for anyone seeking some peaceful beauty while visiting the nearby Grand Ole Opry. We parked at the nearby movieplex in the mall, which was free.

The Opryland Resort is a "must-go" experience when visiting Nashville! The conservatories and waterfalls throughout the property are beautiful and lush. The resort had their Christmas lights up as of 11/1, which added to the overall attractiveness of the resort, especially at night. Plenty to see and do,(including live music) even for a day-tripper. There are also 12 different restaurants to choose from. We recommend this very highly for tourists. It is well worth the trip from downtown Nashville. A tip: it is cheaper to take a rideshare to the front door than it is to park in their parking lot for the day. Pair this visit with a concert at the adjacent Grand Ole Opry for a totally fun day!.

I love this hotel!!! It is huge and stunning! There are beautiful trees, flowers, and waterfalls throughout the hotel. There are some great restaurants to eat at. I’ve been to the hotel many times and recommend it to people visiting the area for great picture opportunities. You do not have to stay at the hotel to visit. This time we tried out the boat ride which takes you in a huge circle inside the hotel. My three and one year old granddaughters loved it!

If you are not statying at the resort you will have to PAY for parking! The way around this is to find the movie theater that is located in the mall across the street. Park at the very edge of the lot and walk to the Resort ~ about a 10 min walk. Total worth it. From there once you enter you can then spend as much time as you want walking though the maze of 7 diffent rooms of plants, shopping, dinning, boat rides, and even water slides! We sat at "The Falls" for a couple of hours waiting for the time to approch to go to the airport and had some drinks~ tranquil! since you have a good parking spot that is centrally located ~ you can take a 10 min walk back and go right to the Opry House. It's a win~ win!

Beautiful hotel. So big you get lost repeatedly. A few reasons why I don't give a 5. #1 All the doors in the hotel get stuck and don't fully close. Maybe it is a preventative thing they did to prevent slamming, but i could have gone in 100 different rooms during my stay. #2 The pool is so far away from all food! Anyone wanted to spend a day at the pool is difficult. Also sooo far from our room. There was a bar that was closed mid Oct so maybe I'd that was open...#3 our fridge is a block of ice. #4 our safe had low battery. #5 is so difficult to get food timely. Only a few places are ala cart and they can be a million miles away. Restaurants booked.. However still a 4. Beautiful place to stay. River boat ride so much fun.

It was great to take the river boat tour and just walk around the atrium. I would definitely stay here if I wanted a nice place outside of downtown Nashville with great amenities. The cookies at the gelato place were good. Food at the mexican restaurant was filling.

Took so many pictures and rode the little boat thru the resort, this is a beautiful property. While we did not stay there, I wish we would have planned to eat at the restaurant in the gardens. The gardens are breathtaking and well worth a few hours spent. Its free and relaxing and well worth the short drive over. The resort looks like a lovely place to stay, but very much a tourist trap with the shops and restaurants etc. But the gardens are a must see.

What an incredible place to explore. It free to access but would you do pay to park which was steep. The conservatory and surrounding gardens thru the whole resort are beautiful. I would highly recommend this place and do the boat ride as well!

Very nice place to look around for a couple of hours. There are amazing gardens, gift shops and restaurants. Too bad we weren't hungry. There are three gardens to look at, all are nice. Don't park near the building though, very expensive. The parking from the outlet is next to the buildings and it's free.

I found the garden conservatory to be quite beautiful. The hotel itself feels like you’re visiting a resort with all the shops, restaurants on site and bars. It’s free to the public to get in so I’m so glad I came!
