Hotels near History of Diving Museum

The Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, displaying, and interpreting artifacts, antiques, books, documents, photographs, and oral history relative to the History of Diving. We tell the international story of man's attempts to explore, understand, and venture under the sea. We also celebrate the special role that South Florida and the Florida Keys played in this story. The Florida Keys History of Diving Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution focused on the Story of Man's Quest to Explore Under the Sea. The majority of the Museum's artifacts have been provided through the generous support of its founders, Drs. Joe and Sally Bauer, who hold one of the largest collection of historic diving equipment and research documents in the world.

    Awesome little gem!
Loved this place! So many different vintage dive helmets, the lady working there was lovely and the giftshop was great! So nice when you find an homage to diving and like-minded people. The outside decor is also great! Love the whaleshark mural and diver mailbox! Wish I lived closer to go to the events, keep doing what you're doing! <3

    Pleasantly surprised
I have no interest in diving at all, but my wife convinced me and she was right. Amazing small museum, very well thought out and well kept. LOTS of diving gear shown and explained. Helmets from every country that has made one. Scavenger hunt for the kids which they loved, activity books, stickers. Worth it.

    A fun surprise
We visited here with minimal expectations. We just wanted to kill some time in an air conditioned spot before going to dinner. What a great surprise it was. It’s set up so much more interestingly than a typical “museum,” and the exhibits are informative and fun. I was actually disappointed when we reached the end.

Good trip for all divers and those with any interest in diving.
If you are a Professional Commercial Diver this will be very interesting. Even if you are a Novice it will be pretty cool. They have a very nice collection of diving equipment covering a wide time and a wide range of types of diving. I have been a Professional Commercial Diver for over forty years and I was very impressed. I enjoyed showing my family which pieces of gear and technologies I had used over the years. Very impressive collection of Heavy Gear hard hats.

    Exceeded our expectations!
The best attraction in Islamorada hands down! The History of Diving Museum is packed with artifacts and information - so much more that we were expecting to see. We went back again on the way out of the keys because we could not see it all on our 1st visit. Make sure you stop early on your trip in case you want to go back while you're in the keys. It's worth the visit!

Great Diving Collection and Fun Scavenger Hunt!
Stopped by this museum on our way down to Marathon. This is a great collection of diving apparatus. The staff was extremely friendly and provided a scavenger hunt for my 6 year old daughter (which even my husband and I found entertaining). There were other kids also participating in the hunt. This was a fantastic bonus as it kept her occupied while we looked at the exhibits. Good fun!

  • Lobster Trap Art Gift Shop and Gallery Hotels
What do lobster traps and art have in common? Our Islamorada-based gift shop and gallery has the answer: tropical artwork in repurposed lobster trap frames. When we took an art class in 2002, we had no idea that our hobby would evolve into a full-blown store and website by 2003. Now, our in-person and online visitors are dazzled not only by our signature frames and paintings that line the gallery walls but also by our underwater photographs, apparel designs, gifts, and other brightly-colored items. We can create custom lobster-trap frames for pieces you bring in, and we can even custom-print your photos onto a wide variety of items in less than 15 minutes! Inspired by our travels in the Caribbean and the Florida Keys, our store speaks to art lovers both near and far.
