This was a very challenging hike. It is very well marked and has beautiful views. Although it is quite challenging, anybody with an average fitness could achieve this. I would highly suggest to go after a couple of sunny days, otherwise it would be very slippery.

I made this trek today, we were in a couple, without a guide, we have to be cautious and physically prepared, we have not lost our way but we have to be attentive because the signage is poor We have chosen a sunny and dry day I don’t want to imagine how it can be with the wet ground!!!! Essential WATER!!!!! AND GOOD FOOTWEAR!!!!! Stunning views at the base of the needle The difficulty is in the steep terrain and the descents with the roots of the trees that make it difficult to walk It took us six hours, we're a couple of 60 years We have not found people and it is best to start from North to South (in the capital) Harder than I thought

A reasonable amount of prudent enquiry would prepare one for a difficult and intense experience. It was an exhilarating walk- but you do have to watch every step, however, never was I in fear of death or serious injury ( as indicated in a previous review). In our sixties, fit and well hydrated this was difficult but by no means any harder that many other jungle and challenge walks we have done ( Kumo Komodo/ Malay central jungle / Camino) The trail markers were at times difficult but always findable. Yes it was muddy, slippery, steep, and the use of ropes ( flimsy or not) was helpful. The use of the chain was only for the last pitch which absolutely was not mandatory to climb. My enquires revealed that in fact less people have died on the needle (zero) than have drowned in the lagoon. So statistically cannot be denied that it’s safer to climb the needle.

We thoroughly enjoyed this walk - scrambling over rocks, up tree roots, ropes, chains and stream crossings. Take your time, take in the spectacular views and enjoy. We took 3.30hrs because we stopped often to take photos, talk to others and to rest. Take lots of water to hydrate. Highly recommend

The hike wasn't as difficult as I expected from other reviews. My husband and I (53 years old) hiked from the carpark to the top and back the same way to the car. It took us 3 hours total but we went slow due to my bad knee and stopped for pictures and spent about 30 minutes at the top. We didn't do the chain at the top because the wind was blowing very hard.
