Palmerston North's premier park with 26 hectares of bush walks, bike tracks and formal gardens. It's got something for everyone in the family – thousands of mature trees, splendid roses, barbecues, croquet lawns... and the kids will love the Junior Road Safety Park, miniature railway, mini golf, playground and paddling pool.

Hokowhitu Lagoon was once an important fishery for Rangitāne that had a thriving eel population. Nowadays, this place is a hotspot for water sports, or an ideal place to go for a walk with a view. Come on down for an easy outing or stroll.

A cool place for a walk, literally! With plenty of shaded native bush and a swimming hole to help you beat the heat on a hot Palmy day. Join the native birds as the path through this park journeys through one of Palmerston North's native bush remnants. It also links up with the Turitea Stream, where babbling water, birdsong and fresh bush scent combine to create an oasis of calm. Take your togs because the stream and swimming hole are a perfect place for a swim. If you're keen to get your heart rate up, there are three sets of stairs for you to run or walk up. The trail can be done in 30 minutes from Tennent Drive, but you can make it about two hours if you start at the Summerhill shops and set out along the Turitea Walkway, which connects to the Bledisloe Park walkways.

Central Energy Trust Wildbase Recovery provides shelter and world-class care for native wildlife to rehabilitate after treatment at Massey University’s Wildbase Hospital.

Ahimate is all about family fun, and that includes your furry friends. Dogs can walk leash-free throughout the park. We also have a fenced enclosure they can burn off energy in and an agility park to test their skills and train them. Ahimate Reserve is a great place to access the Manawatū River Pathway. Please be careful if you are swimming at Ahimate Reserve. Over 2021/2022 summer, four people drowned here. Warning signs are now on site: All rivers are unpredictable and the Manawatū River gets deep quickly and has a strong current. Children need to be closely supervised anybody entering the water should check for hazards such as unstable cliffs, sunken logs and debris

Jump on the city's longest dual flying fox, check out the log and tyre scramble, or go play in the Cessna 421 plane that we airlifted into the reserve specially. More interested in getting some exercise in or get rid of your dog's zoomies? Journey along the 3km pathway network to explore this developing reserve or go to the dog agility course so Fido can burn off some energy.
