    Beautiful gardens
Spent a relatively short time in the gardens following a particular path but was suitably impressed. The path chosen was from top to bottom so far more easily coming down than going up if your mobility is limited. The gardens are well established and beautiful. The Lady Norwood Rose Garden at the bottom was impressive and in full bloom. Other parts were not quite in bloom yet but would be impressive as spring progresses into summer.

    Beauty, Nature, and Art
Wonderful option for a day hike in the fresh air. Start at the rose gardens (and don't miss the begonia greenhouse -- my personal favorite part of the area), then head up the hill for a bushwalk. Continue uphill and end up at the Carter Observatory & Cable Car Museum. 2-3 hours to really take it all in. I loved the art installations along the path. You can read descriptions and history of each piece.

Pleasant way to enjoy a few hours surrounded by nature
Killed two birds with one stone by catching the cable car up, enjoying coffee, cake and views then walking down through the gardens. There are a number of interesting side trails. Information boards give good insights into the development over time. The children’s area was particularly well designed. The lookout above the rose garden would be spectacular when in full bloom. The small peace memorial was ideal for reflection. Option of coffee/lunch beside the rose garden was a nice finish option.

Lots of places to sit and enjoy the beauty of the gardens.
Spectacular gardens overlooking Wellington. Take the cable car up or walk (a bit of a hike). Walking paths lead to different areas/gardens in the complex. Very well maintained. A number of volunteers on hand to answer questions, provide directions and pamphlets. There’s a souvenir shop and cafe.

    Relaxing place.
I love this place. I walked up through the Bolton Street cemetery and also took the cable car up. It has so much area and many different things to see. The rose garden and herb garden are lovely. It is free to enter. A lovely relaxing place.

    Definitely worth a visit
Get the cable car up to the top and walk back down through the gardens - very beautiful and well worth a visit. The cafe is also worth visiting. The content of the glass houses is stunning and so well looked after.

    A Must Do in Wellington
The Wellington Botanic Garden was absolutely stunning. I knew it had high reviews but it exceeded expectations. The plant groupings made for a beautiful setting. There were plenty of paved paths, but there were lots of “off the beaten path” side shoots to explore as well. We spent a lot of time around the hydrangeas and in the xeric garden because we could not get enough. The rose garden and scent garden were also incredible. Whenever I am next in Wellington, the Botanic Garden will always be on my list to visit. And, it’s free!!! I’ve been to less impressive gardens in the US that have an entrance fee!

    A peaceful and tranquil setting
Beautiful botanic gardens with a lovely view over Wellington. Getting off the cable car, there is a well signposted path that takes you through the gardens to the Beehive. A very tranquil spot and well worth visiting.

Huge garden area in the middle of a busy city
I was on a cruise ship which stopped in Wellington. I did t bother with any organised tour here but made my own way, taking the Cabke Car to the top and walking back down thru the gardens. It’s a lovely big area - so green and so close to the centre. Lots of different areas to look at too. Worth a visit
