A short walk over the woodern bridge from our bus drop. The rapid water beneath the bridge, and walk further could see the water fall where the speed boat on the river speedboat cruise made the turn. We were on similar speedboat that made the same turn an hour ago, good to see the boat (which we were on) negotiating the high speed water fall.

We biked the Huka Falls to Aratiatia (Rotary Track). The track in parts is quite gnarly, so for non e-bikers and inexperienced bikers on normal mountain bikes, maybe the west side of the river, there and back is a safer option. However it was dry and we managed it pretty well. All four of us were over 70 years and only one on an e-bike. There wasn't a lot of traffic so in the narrower parts there wasn't much danger of meeting somebody head on. It took us over two and a half hours including a stop at the Honey Cafe, which on its own is worth a visit. Some spectacular views of the Waikato River are a bonus of course.

We walked down the trail from the thermal spa /swimming area (having parked in the park) and despite some steep inclines we got to the falls in about 30 mins (not counting the 15 mins stop for coffee at the cafe at the start!). The glimpses and wider vistas of the river en route are great, but the falls/cascades themselves are awesome! The amount of water passing through the gorge is immense and a mini version of many of the waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies. It’s not on the same scale as Niagara, but it gives a good impression of the latter and offers fascinating/ mesmerising viewing. An absolute must see.

Visiting Huka Falls in Taupō was an absolutely unforgettable experience! The sheer power and intensity of the rushing water left us in awe. Watching 220,000 liters of water per second thunder through the narrow gorge before plunging into the turquoise pool below was simply mesmerizing. The vibrant blue water, created by the pure, mineral-rich flow of the Waikato River, looked stunning against the lush greenery surrounding the falls. The viewing platforms provided incredible vantage points, allowing us to fully appreciate the raw energy and beauty of nature. Huka Falls is a must-visit attraction for anyone traveling to Taupō. Whether you're stopping by for a quick visit or taking your time to explore the scenic surroundings, it’s an experience that truly showcases the power and beauty of New Zealand’s natural wonders. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Absolutely worth the visit!

The short walk from the tiny car park to the falls was well worth it. The falls are very impressive, with plenty of water gushing down the relatively narrow passage. We saw boats coming up to the bottom of the falls, and that must be even more impressive.

The falls have some great walking tracks. From the main parking area, instead of crossing the bridge, go left, there is an easy track that gives you a great view of the falls. Only a 5 minute walk and flat ground. Another track through the bush from there takes you up to the road, bit steep in places but pleasant walk.

Well worth a visit and all free, Tracks are interesting each way and of varying lengths but the falls themselves and rapids just below that are really worth the trip. Gets crowded, parking area can get full as well but many move on pretty quickly. Feel the power of the river - beautiful!

Walked here on our way down to Wellington from Rotorua. Was really busy at the start and we were lucky someone left a parking space as we drove in as people were driving for a while to park or parking away and walking down. We only walked along the main stretch of the falls which was beautiful as there are bigger walks in the region.
