A colour of beauty and amazement
WOW! I was blown away. I read in tour books about the gardens and how wonderful they were but had not seen any pictures. In some way I was glad as any photos do NOT do the gardens justice. One just has to walk through the different themed walled gardens and be amazed at the splendor of their creation and the amount of effort that goes into keeping the gardens maintained. Currently the gardens are free but next year there will be a fee and rightly so. My favourite was the Indian and Japanese Gardens. Allow at minimum 3 hours ( I spent over 4 hours and for me that wasn't long enough) to appreciate the beauty. Because of the way the gardens are designed the map is a little hard to understand and the themed gardens venture in all directions so it is easy to miss some. If you have the opportunity this is a must

    A different world awaits you
Beautiful gardens where you can stay one hour or several hours. You can pick or choose a few themed gardens or hit each one. A map is a must, small charge of $1 or $2. Great photo opportunities. No admission so be sure I throw some in the donation bin. Perfect stop on your way to Rotorua or Waitomo from Auckland.

Needed more time in this magical place!
What a stunning way to spend an afternoon. Deceptive from the outside, you're not getting a standard botanical garden experience here. Each garden is themed - no, not by plant type or ecosystem, but regions of the world, periods of time, etc. Our favorites were the 16th century Italian garden, the Egyptian garden, and the Indian garden. We also loved the kitchen garden, full of edible herbs, spices and vegetables. I only wish we had more time here - stopped en route on our road trip and could have easily spent hours and hours discovering new corners of this place. Highly recommend!

    Very Intestring Garden
This place has number of themed gardens. Themes are mostly based on regions of the world. Small details of history are also provied which describe the garden. I am only giving 4 stars, becase if they had provided the details of each plant (like in a botanical garden) then I would add the 5th star.

    Beautiful themed gardens in Hamilton
Our friends who live near Hamilton took us here. They have visited many times before, which is recommendation in itself. We had visited beautiful botanical gardens in Australia and Christchurch but these are on another level. A $2 map is useful to ensure you see it all, which I strongly recommend you do. They are amazing. Really well set out with clear divisions between the different themes. It was free when we went but our friends said there is going to be a charge soon. Really recommend a few hours here.

    Must see!
Unlike anything we’ve seen before. We went in expecting to see some pretty botanical gardens and very surprised with what we got. This place has beautifully curated replicas of different gardens from all over the world. Think of it as the Epcot of gardens and it’s free! Highly recommend that you visit if you are passing through Hamilton.

    Beautifully maintained gardens
Very unusual place to visit. There are several themed gardens (eg Chinese, Italian Egyptian etc, and vegetable/herb garden. All extremely well laid out and maintained. It's a popular place, but so big it did not feel crowded. And the bonus is that entry was free ! There is a decent cafe, which was busy, but its close to central Hamilton, so no problem to find food before or after your visit. Take water & a sun-hat as most of the gardens act like sun traps, and it was very warm.

    The Enclosed Gardens
With only limited time we decided to concentrate on the Enclosed Gardens. With the help of a mostly accurate $2 map and visitor guide we saw all 18 gardens. They are in three groups of gardens, paradise, fantasy and productive with the Tropical Garden, in untropical Hamilton, in a group of its own. My favourites are the Egyptian, Italian and Indian gardens. The gardens and parking are free, if I were a local I would be visiting regularly to see the various gardens in each of the four seasons.

    Fabulous enclosed gardens
We were visiting from the uk and on our way from Auckland to Waitomo glow worm caves. We stopped off in Hamilton at lunch time and were blown away by the enclosed gardens. Each garden was thoughtfully designed and so well kept. We took an audio tour which was excellent. We wished we had more time here. We decided to walk on the riverside path to the Waikato Museum. Beautiful walk (50 mins) and worth the visit to the Museum.

    Pretty over run
I think the garden has become a victim of its own success. Hamilton is not really a tourist destination and it seems the gardens are the only thing to do in town. The gardens are really nice but unfortunately it was so busy it was difficult to enjoy and not the tranquil experience we were hoping for.
