We felt safe staying in this area during our time in Athens and found it was easy to find good food at restaurants everywhere we went. We visited in March and didn't find it too crowded but could definitely see it getting crowded in the summer season. This area is full of affordable souvenir shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels. Many of the hotels in the area had rooftop bars which were perfect for a relaxing drink away from the streets and gave fantastic views of both the sunset and the Acropolis. We also like how the locals take care of the cats and they are pretty much everywhere as well. Major sites in Athens can be found here like the Roman Agora, Hadrian's Library and some of the oldest churches. There are also some modern sites here like the Museum of Illusions and a Flea Market. The closest metro is Monastiraki and two lines go through this station. The station also has some ruins that are visible inside the station.

A very nice neighborhood at the foot of the acropolis, where there are no shortage of souvenir shops and places to eat, I already said souvenir shops! Whole streets of these shops, especially near the metro. Between one street and the other there are also archaeological ruins to visit, which I recommend buying a ticket that allows access to 6/7 archaeological sites.

A very busy central area with a metro station in the heart of Athens. There is a flea market with many other streets littered with tourist shops and an awfully large range of restaurants. I didn’t enjoy the pressure of being constantly asked to stop and eat in Athens. It seems to be standard practice to drag your customers in ad people wander by enjoying the sights. All in all a very lively place and very busy please be aware of the pick pockets! I nearly got done twice. There are some girls that try snd distract you with free roses and try snd get into your bags please have your wits and be cautious at all times especially in the evening when it is very crowded

We visited Monastiraki with my boyfriend and really enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere! The narrow streets are full of small shops, vintage items, and cozy cafés. Our walk was wonderful, especially with the beautiful view of the Acropolis, though it’s good to stay alert in some busier spots where it can feel a bit crowded. Despite that, it’s a unique experience, and we’d love to visit again!

It is one of the emblematic squares of the city. So much so that it's crowded at any hour. It is difficult to feel the square with so many people and so much restaurant. It's a very passing area. I recommend having a drink at one of the rooftop restaurants that have privileged views.

Shopping and dining heart of Athens. There is everything here, and you absolutely need to visit the city. Whatever you want, you can find it in Monastiraki, and it is a very safe place to walk, even at night. Shops open until late, and restaurants almost all day

I loved this neighborhood, it is central, close to the Acropolis and with many restaurants options. Well-moving streets with strong trade. A delight to walk around there, it was my favorite place to eat, but not too late to be able to enjoy the sunset, in the restaurants q are well laying at the bottom of the Acropolis.

  • Acropolis Hotels
This ancient citadel, built in the fifth century B.C., towers over the city and is home to some of the most impressive ancient ruins, buildings, and artifacts. The most famous temple, the Parthenon, was dedicated to the goddess Athena and is considered the peak of Greek art. You can avoid long lines by joining a walking tour of the site. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, as the walk up the hill can be steep and exposed to the sun. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

Wander through the narrow cobblestone alleys of this neighborhood at the foothills of the Acropolis. You'll find quaint shops selling jewelry, clothes, ceramics, and souvenirs, plus sidewalk restaurants and family-run taverns serving authentic Greek food. Being one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, you’ll be able to see Roman columns, medieval churches, and ancient landmarks like the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. The area gets busy, especially during summer, so visit in the early morning or late afternoon for fewer crowds. Explore Plaka and the nearby landmarks on a guided tour of Athens—it will typically include the Acropolis, Parthenon, and other ancient temples and museums. – Tripadvisor

  • Panathenaic Stadium Hotels
The Panathenaic Stadium dates back to the 4th century B.C. and was the site of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and remains the starting point of the Olympic flame torch relay. Made entirely of white marble, it's an impressive sight that's earned it the nickname Kallimarmaro or "beautiful marble". There are even a couple of hours in the morning designated for morning jogs when you run in the footsteps of former Olympians. Take a stroll up to Ardittos Hill for a panoramic view of the stadium. Tickets are required to enter the stadium, which includes a free audio guide. – Tripadvisor
