Hotels near Panathenaic Stadium

The Panathenaic Stadium dates back to the 4th century B.C. and was the site of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and remains the starting point of the Olympic flame torch relay. Made entirely of white marble, it's an impressive sight that's earned it the nickname Kallimarmaro or "beautiful marble". There are even a couple of hours in the morning designated for morning jogs when you run in the footsteps of former Olympians. Take a stroll up to Ardittos Hill for a panoramic view of the stadium. Tickets are required to enter the stadium, which includes a free audio guide. – Tripadvisor

This is an amazing place for running enthusiasts - the chance to run around the running tack on the world’s first Olympic stadium. The track is cushioned and it is not mandatory to run; you may prefer to just walk and take in the incredible surroundings. There is a very cool tunnel to the museum which charts the history of the venue and Olympics more broadly. The venue opens at 8am and at 10 euros per person it is a very reasonable price to enter.

Amazing. A must-see, especially if you're into sports. Entrance is €10pp including a mobile guided tour (walk up to the second booth and leave your details to borrow a mobile phone type device). The queues were not long when we returned mid-morning on a Sunday (after a run the Thursday before). The museum is a little sub-optimised in some areas but that doesn't distract from the tangible sense of history here. There's also a merch store outside and inside the museum. And for the runners amongst you (because it's not on the official website)..... *RUNNING IN THE PANATHENAIC STADIUM* Turn up before opening time, from 0730 (perhaps earlier) and the entrance staff will let you run on the track and ask you to pay the €10 Euro entrance afterwards and when the ticket office opens at 0800 ish. You'll be asked to leave your name, address, DOB and signature (not entirely sure why if you're fit, so perhaps don't use your real data!). We went on a Thursday morning in our running gear and there were only 2 other runners there, though it got busier the later it got. Wear good trainers as the track isn't very forgiving. Worth skipping breakfast and getting up and out for. Take water with you. It's magical. Take the underground to Syntagma on the red line (a couple of €'s for a return ticket) and leave the station at the 'gardens / presidential palace' exit (walk towards the souvenir stall which is by the entrance of the gardens). Walk through and out the gardens, bearing right, to the stadium which is over a busy road (a simple tourist map from your hotel will help you stay on track).

Exciting audio guide tour even for those who are not otherwise sports enthusiasts. The stadium is very impressive as the only marble stadium in the world. A small museum displays the Olympic torches from the last few decades as well as the bowl used to light the Olympic flame. Although the tickets can only be purchased on site, we only had to queue for a few minutes on a Thursday afternoon as the stadium was not at all crowded. In summary: A clear recommendation!

This place will please anyone, but if you love sport like me, you can't afford not to go. The stadium, made of marble, is formidable, but there's something even better, that made me feel like an Olympic athlete, and not only do I talk about how you can run freely down the track and get on the podium, which in part you can, but I mean ALL the Olympic torches that are on display there, amazing. In addition the entrance fee is not expensive (8 euros) compared to what it offers. And I think this goes without saying that I highly recommend it.

Enter the ranking of mandatory visits in Athens. Please note that unlike other must-see monuments and sites in the city, this is not included in the City Pass. The price, if I remember correctly, was 10€, and worth paying. An audio guide is also included with the access (if you have headphones, better, since they are not included). It explains in a concise way every area, every period, and every historical, architectural and sporting detail. The visit is absolutely free. No closed tours, times or guidelines. You can enjoy it as you like. It has a small museum inside the Stadium, where the Olympic torches of all modern JJOO events to date are displayed. In our case, we were very excited to find Barcelona 92.

We went early in the morning to run a lap or two around the track (offered 7:30-9:00) and this was one of our favourite experiences on our 3+ week trip. We were given audio devices with our entrance fee, and enjoyed learning more about the stadium following our run. The views from the top of the stadium are amazing! Take the time to explore all the stadium has to offer.

Being here only for 1 day, we planned our day to get a taxi from the Cruiseport to here then walk into Athens centre. The entrance fee was €9 each and being honest after spending time here, even just walking around the track it was money well spent. There's not a lot to see, but it's what you make of it yourself that you remember! The silly video of you running the last 10m over the finishing line or posing like Usan Bolt on the podium.

November is definitely the time to go here. There were very few people there when we visited at about 3pm, and we had good weather. The fees are reduced in the winter months as well, and it only cost 4 Euros which was amazing. That also entitled us to an audio guide which was very good and gave us lots of information. Definitely don't just wander about as you'll miss an awful lot. The climb to the top is worth it. The grandeur of the place is amazing. I would recommend it.

This was one of the highlights of our Athens visit, being able to walk around the stadium and take in the history of the games throughout the years. The audio tour brought it to life and I thought it was worth the 10 euro entry fee. Walking up the tunnel to the museum and seeing all the previous Olympic torches and artwork was also cool.

Wanted to visit the stadium while visiting in Athens. Seeing it from the inside was breathtaking. Entry fee is €10 and they offer a senior discount for €5. This includes an audio device or app you can download and use your phone. The guide is in many languages. The clarity of the device was great. The stadium was definitely a highlight of Athens visit.

  • Acropolis Hotels
This ancient citadel, built in the fifth century B.C., towers over the city and is home to some of the most impressive ancient ruins, buildings, and artifacts. The most famous temple, the Parthenon, was dedicated to the goddess Athena and is considered the peak of Greek art. You can avoid long lines by joining a walking tour of the site. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, as the walk up the hill can be steep and exposed to the sun. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor
