Lycabetus hill is a great place to spend a few hours to watch the sunset over Athens. We took the funicular up because of time but probably fairly easy if you are fit. Note that even just walking to the bottom of the hill where the streets and houses and restaurants are takes some effort so you need to be fairly fit. The view and sunset over Athens were amazing. Tip - people will crowd round the top point to try to get the best view and take photos, but if you just go down the path for a few metres you will be slightly lower but the view is still great and nowhere near as many people. There is also a bar up there for a drink and a (fairly posh) restaurant for a meal. The funicular is quite expensive and it is entirely underground so not worth it for the view, just as an easy means to get up there. We would recommend taking the funicular up and then walking back down to save the money. We walked down after the sunset and a few drinks and it was easy, It takes about 15 mins, although a torch or phone is useful as the lighting is sparse in some places.

Panoramic view of the entire city... unmissable!! Be careful though of the funicular scam for 3 minutes... 8€ one way or 10€ return... if you don't have too much difficulty, take the street to the left of the funicular and the climb takes 20 minutes... once at the top, the view is beautiful but the cramped place makes us prefer by far the serenity of Philoppapos hill and its superb view of the Acropolis!!

What an amazing view. I strongly recommend not walking up the hill and taking the lift at cost €12 return love you from the top are breathtaking. You can spend about an hour to two here getting up and down. There is a restaurant at the top as well as the church.

12:00 We took the funicular tramway to the top of Mount Lycabettus for the best views of Athens. There are various opinions about hiking up the mountain and I guess it depends on your preference. For us, we just really wanted to see Athens from the top and visit the beautiful little church there so we took the easy option. The mountain itself is beautiful and the views amazing. Lots of people try to go at sunset to see the views at that time of day and we can certainly see why. The funicular is fun and good value. The little church at the top is very interesting and there are some options on the top for re-fueling (see separate review). All in all, definitely worth doing if you’re in Athens and have a spare couple of hours.

Great place to get above Athens, see the rooftops of the entire city, all the way down to Piraeus and the Saronic Gulf. (Note it.can be quite windy up there.) Little church of St. George sits atop the mountain with beautiful icons, but no pics allowed inside. Stop in for a frappe or snack at the mountaintop bar/restaurant. Halfway down the mountain by walking path is the Green Tent restaurant; what great food and a beautiful experience at sunset (see pic). The taramosalata was the best I've ever had. You can either walk to the summit or take the funicular rail.

We took the funicular to go up and down, that is 12€ per person, a little too expensive I think. It would be to do again we would have gone down on foot to enjoy the greenery and calm, that is 9€ the climb alone. Interesting panorama of all Athens, white city. You can see the Acropolis and the Aegean Sea. If your time is short, this visit is dispensable.

Beautiful panoramic view of Athens. The top is easy to reach on foot if you don't want to take the (overpriced) train. The path is well developed, depending on where you start from there is also a footpath up to about halfway as a shortcut. The path on foot is also interesting due to the botany, among other things it is lined with cacti (full of prickly pears in April). The only drawback: the viewing platform is quite crowded, it is hardly possible to take photos from the front row and without heads in the picture.

We went to the summit on foot with the children via the east slope, the walk is nice and shady at the top it was windy and cool the view is very beautiful, we took photos to go down there is a zigzagging path between the cacti which leads quickly to the city center.

The climb takes about 20 minutes taking its time. But the view is well worth the effort. View of the Acropolis with Piraeus in the background. The place is very popular at sunset. Small chapel at the top. There is also a restaurant and a funicular.
