- NicolasM2011Caracas, Venezuela53 contributionsIf you are interested in history, and seeing the works that have been made, this is your place, otherwise it can be overwhelming and perhaps tedious because there are many corridors full of works, which perhaps you have no idea what you are seeing. A minimum stay of 3 hours to see the punctual things you like, 4 hours to detail a little more, and 5 hours to is the right time (you still won't see everything in detail). I recommend renting the audio guide to understand what you see, otherwise you lose a lot of information. I recommend going early in the morning, when you can still move normally, and take advantage of seeing the works that attract the most, such as the painting of the Mona Lisa (Gioconda). I recommend buying tickets from their official website, so avoid queues directly at the museum.Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 November 2024
- worleybird98Hudson, Ohio984 contributionsBuying tickets for the Louvre is tricky, you definitely have to keep an eye on the website as they release tickets sporadically and not always on a set timeframe. We managed to get 9 AM entry tickets so the line was very short and we were able to get into the pyramid entrance extremely quickly. We only had a few hours to spend here, so to make the most of it we purchased tour tickets through the Louvre. The tour started at 10 AM, so we had an hour to kill before the start of our tour. We didn't know exactly what would be contained in the tour, and I wanted to see the French Crown Jewels so we started to head in that direction. We saw a Mona Lisa sign and decided to take advantage of the early morning less crowded time and quickly worked our way to the Mona Lisa room. We are so glad we did! Even shortly after 9 AM it was at least 10 people deep in front of the Mona Lisa. We waited our turn and was able to work our way up to the ropes fairly quickly and managed to get a couple quick pictures. We then went and spent a great deal of time looking at the crown jewels as we had the room pretty much to ourselves. You must work your way back to the main entrance area and then go down to find the tour stand to get your headset. Then they direct you to a room where you'll meet your guide. The guide gave us an overview before leaving the room and then we headed out. Part of the tour includes the Crown jewels, so we saw that room for second time, but this time the room was packed, and it was hard to move around. However, the guide did impart a lot of interesting information which we would not have known had we not taken the tour. We started down in the basement, where you could see the original fortress walls of the Louvre, and then we went upstairs and saw the Venus de Milo, Winged Victory, and then worked our way to the Mona Lisa room. By the time we reached that destination, the room was solidly packed with hundreds of people. We were so glad we had already had our chance to see it up close. We were able to spend time with the tour guide who shared more information with us. After the tour was over, we asked our tour guide what her favorite part of the museum was as we still had about another 45 minutes to spare. The area that she recommended to see was Napoleon's Apartments, so armed with our trusted map we actually managed to work our way through the museum to find the apartment. It definitely is a little tricky to do, and thank goodness we had the map. The apartments are spectacular, and was the highlight of the entire time we spent in the Louvre. I would highly recommend visiting that area if you have the opportunity. You're in Paris and you have to see the Louvre, but just know you're not going to see everything, and it's going to be super crowded no matter how hard you try. If you go with the right expectations, you won't be disappointed.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 January 2025
- MAX TBari, Italy293 contributionsHuge museum spread over 4 floors, easy to reach with metro line 1, to visit at least once in a lifetime. Well-organized entrance with limited queues (max 30 minutes with ticket already purchased); in this regard I recommend you buy tickets online directly from the museum website (adults € 22.00, children up to 18 years free). The full visit would last about 5 hours, but if you want to look at the most important things (Monnalisa, Venus de Milo, Nike of Samothrace, Italian painters, etc.) are enough even just 2/3 hours. I recommend renting an audio guide (at a cost of only 6 euros) that will certainly help you in the visit and orientation of the museum. Do not miss, of course, the area of Italian painters (Leonardo, Caravaggio, Arcimboldo, Veronese and others) that really deserves. The room where the Mona Lisa (the STAR of the museum) is exhibited should be better organized, too many people in a disorderly way who crowd to take pictures and you can hardly see the painting up close; it would take little to realize a compulsory path that gives everyone the opportunity to fully enjoy the beauty of the painting (very disappointing the visit of the Monnalisa). Inside the structure there are various restaurants and bars where you can take a break after traveling km. Overall a really nice experience for young and old.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 June 2024
- AnLil936 contributionsPlanning ahead helps one keep their head if visiting Paris. Buying tickets to enter the Louvre early (or buying a Paris Museum Pass and prebooking) is essential. Don’t get lost but rent one audio guide for the group to see select items. Start with the Mona Lisa, because the room will be packed later. Signs will direct you to it. Don’t seek the “Hollywood of art history” but learn about the culture. If you’re too busy/on a tight timeline, you can save the imperial combatant art surrounding French military history for the Chateau de Versailles and Invalide’s Army Museum, which is worth seeing. In the big halls, it’s impossible to find solitude or any appreciative experience within a day, otherwise. However, the French and Italian statues collected by the Louvre remain underestimated, more than some of the overhyped paintings—i.e., for the non-religious. Few might notice the ancient Near Eastern art except if seeking the washroom below (at the rear under the Islamic) floor. I didn’t see enough Indigenous or any Asian art except ceramics. The important thing is not losing each other if travelling with others; a washroom on the top of Sully/near Cafe Angelina’s or outside the escalators by the Starbucks will be your saving grace. In summary: designate an interior meeting spot; avoid killer high heels like I saw tourists wear; and be prepared for crowds and heat by bringing a clear water bottle in a bag, not pop or juice that tourists mistakenly packed. On entering the museum from the Musee subway station, the lineup circles along the span of the central courtyard in order of starting/reservation times. So, arrive early, use the downstairs washroom or head straight to the Mona Lisa, and stick to the plan. Then, you’ll love the art, survive the mass/hysteria, and appreciate the iconic Louvre for all that it is…since Queen Anne of Austria’s/the King’s Collections of old!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 August 2024
- Andrea MTatui, SP185 contributionsWhat about this museum? Just go... we bought a Paris Museum Pass, we scheduled a big snowfall for 9:30 and at the exact time the queue started to go. Leaving the museum has a big shopping. If your budget is tight or you do not want to pay for the abuses of the Louvre restaurant, the Louvre suit, yet in the underground part you will find many shops and restaurants with more affordable price than the underground part of the Louvre, follow bus/metro exit r will fall into this shopping, everything in the underground , Mc Donald’s is there too.Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 November 2024
- BonaLancsUnited Kingdom1,000 contributionsWe spent more than 5 hrs there and we already know we would love to go back to explore more. We went for 09.00 in the morning and it was very busy, maybe 30min waiting time, not too bad. There is a free map to use and audio guide. The map is sort of helpful but the audio guide is a waste of 6 euros- impossible to use, we have seen many people having them but not actually using them !! The building itself is a giant - very easy to be lost completely, behind every room there is another one and another one !! Not enough toilets for sure. There is nice restaurant/canteen with few healthy option there. Now, The Mona Lisa room- there is no time for contemplating or thinking even, everyone is trying to take the best selfie so phones and smiles...and noone actually looking into Mona Lisa ! There is so much art, so much history in the Louvre, so many fantastic pieces, we felt overwhelmed after 5 hrs and left but The Louvre is fantastic place to visit, maybe not with small children or elderly person- the walk is for miles and miles !Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2024
- Fabien152 contributionsWe bought our tickets online early and quickly got in when we got to the museum. Of course the art collection is second to none, really impressive and there is something for everyone. What personally impressed me the most is the building itself. The palace is truly grand and beautiful and very well preserved. The newer, modern architecture that's been added over time, such as the pyramid, is beautiful as well and a very nice contrast. I signed up my little one for a guided visit with a storyteller and that was a great experience. We had lunch in a café inside the Louvre which was convenient and very good. I definitely recommend a visit to the Louvre -- do book early (especially the guided tours that quickly sell out) and plan on a full day there!Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 January 2025
- Sotiris GVolos, Greece150 contributionsThis museum is truly one of the most stunning in the world! Even as someone who isn't typically keen on museums, this one, along with a few others in Europe, is firmly on my bucket list. The joy I experienced during my visit was immense. There’s an incredible variety of exhibits, so be sure to plan in advance which ones you'd like to explore. I highly recommend the Greek exhibits, especially the iconic Victory of Samothrace, as well as the Egyptian displays, which feature fascinating artifacts. For those who appreciate remarkable architecture, Napoleon's apartments are a must-see. However, I’d advise against spending too much time on the Mona Lisa—the line is extremely long and it might not be worth the effort. It's crucial to book your tickets several weeks in advance to ensure a smooth visit!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 January 2025
- Luis MVenezuela276 contributionsPerfect, organized, somewhat surprising. I recommend paying for a tour if you don’t know about art and history. It is better for you to understand what you are seeing and they are not so expensive. Get organized in time by buying your tickets and arrive early. The museum is very large and requires time.Visited February 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 February 2025
- AnuradhaNew Delhi, India1,410 contributionsIt’s really a big historical treasure, with excellent artefacts from different cultures and civilisations. Highly recommend to do selective areas/ artefacts as per your choice, make a plan map before hand, as it’s impossible to cover the whole museum even in a month. Start early in order to see it properly, as it tends to get overcrowded specially around the special artefacts. All the three wings are excellent, must cover one wing at a time and move on to the next, rather than covering one floor at a time. Make use of lifts in order to avoid aching feet, as such you have to walk a lot.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 June 2024
