- OberammergauIf you’re visiting Oberammergau in a year ending with zero, it’s all about the Passion Play. Villagers have performed it since the 17th century. It’s seven hours long (thankfully, with an intermission), and about half the townspeople participate in 100+ performances between May and October. And since hundreds of thousands are expected to attend over the course of those performances, if you’re in town, you’ll have company.Read more
- MittenwaldAs automobiles became popular in the early 20th century, quiet little towns along popular roads suddenly found themselves tourist destinations. Mittenwald is one of them. This small Bavarian town in the northern foothills of the Alps, on the route to Innsbruck, Austria, has been a popular stop since the 1930s. For challenging walks, many area ski runs become hiking trails in summer. And visit the local violin museum (Mittenwald is known for the manufacture of fine string instruments).Read more
- BregenzCapital of the state of Vorarlberg, Bregenz nestles at the foot of Pfander Mountain, on the shores of lovely Lake Constance. Famed for its summer opera festival, Bregenzer Festspiele, the small town of 27,000 welcomes some 200,000 visitors for dramatic evening productions of Puccini, Britten and other classics, held on a stage on the lake itself. Strolling, boating and swimming are also popular activities. Bicycling round Bregenz's cobblestone streets is an easy and pleasant way to explore.Read more

- San Jose
San Jose is a small town on the Costa Almeria in Andalucia. Originally home to just 175 people, it has become more and more popular as a small resort town, and its size means it is great for kids and perfect for a family holiday.
San Jose is a family friendly village, with lots to offer on a family holiday. The beaches are wild and unspoiled, particularly the striking Playa de Mónsul with its mixture of volcanic rocks and fine grey sand. The kilometre long Playa de los Genoveses is probably more in line with the average family's expectations of a Spanish beach holiday, however. If you are keen to do more than simply soak up the sun, however, San Jose offers many other activities, such as opportunities to go cycling and horse riding, or even boat trips and windsurfing sessions for the more nautically inclined members of the family! The small size of San Jose itself also means that it's a lovely unspoiled Andalucian town to explore, with a lovely park and sandy streets, with none of the high rise hotels that blight many other areas along the coast of Andalucia. Another lovely village in the area is Los Esculios, northeast of San Jose, and the track to visit the hamlet is a very popular walk in the area and highly recommended.

But it’s more than just a winter destination—spring and summer transform the slopes into lush flower-dotted meadows with clear views of the Himalayas all around. You can hit the links at one of the highest golf courses in the world, make a wish at the sacred Baba Reshi Shrine, and ride the Gulmarg Gondola (another highest in the world) for even better panoramic views.Read more
- MontrealMontreal, c’est si bon! This French-speaking city is considered the cultural capital of Canada, and is a cosmopolitan celebration of Québécois style. A horse-drawn carriage ride around the cobblestone streets and grand buildings of Vieux-Montréal will give you a taste of European flavour. The Basilique Notre-Dame is a confection of stained glass, and the Plateau Mont-Royal district will delight you with its quaint boutiques and cafés.
