Huntington sits on the mid-section of the scenic Ohio River at the point where West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky meet. Founder Collis P. Huntington was the builder and owner of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. West Virginia’s second-largest city and the home of Marshall University, Huntington promises a variety of attractions: a downtown area with shopping, entertainment and a town square with a nostalgic nod to the city's railroad past. Year-round, festivals and special events take place downtown and in Pullman Square, the Civic Arena and the Keith-Albee Theater.

State College, as can be imagined from its name, is a college town, the home to the main campus of Penn State, one of the ten largest public universities in the United States. Leipzig is closely connected to classical music—Wagner was born here, and Mendelssohn established a conservatory here in 1843. If you’re more of a melancholy, contemporary type, visit during the Wave-Gotik-Treffen, billed as the world’s largest "dark" (Goth, industrial, punk, etc.) music festival.

In wintertime, lovely Seefeld in Tirol channels the fairytale magic of a Christmas village. Located on a plateau amid mountains and valleys, it’s an ideal place for snow sports, particularly cross-country skiing. In fact, several Olympic and World Championship competitions have been held here. Off-season, the crisp mountain air and epic views make for excellent alpine hiking. When you’re ready for refreshment, you can’t go wrong with schnitzel and a local beer at one of the area’s charming restaurants.

Ravenna once was the capital of the Byzantine Empire in Italy, and it still has amazing mosaics recalling that heritage. Also make sure you visit Dante's tomb, as well as the little pile of rubble where local residents hid his urn during WWII to prevent it from being damaged.
