Hibernation has never looked so fun. Cooler winter temperatures in Vegas offer even more reasons to settle in for indoor pursuits like gambling, clubbing, and feasting. And there’s something about the very notion of winter that makes a steak dinner in a dimly lit restaurant feel like the perfect way to welcome the season.
With winter comes the chance to party with thousands of your new closest friends over New Year’s, Super Bowl, and Valentine’s Day events that Las Vegas approaches with its signature over-the-top attitude.
Vegas doesn’t slow down for winter. With plenty of holidays and spikes in visitors for mega-conventions, you’ll still need to book ahead to get the perfect hotel room, score seats at hot-ticket shows, and reserve tables at buzzy restaurants.
Winter can be a great time for hiking, since highs in the cooler months remain mellow enough to enjoy all that gorgeous desert surrounding the city.
Mild weather and smaller-for-Vegas crowds make spring a winning time to roll the dice on a Vegas vacation. Just keep an eye on your exact dates, as there’s a surge of tourists during certain windows that can clog the casinos and take over the Strip.
Expect higher prices and a younger, rowdier vibe during Spring Break season, which stretches from mid-March through mid-April.
Daytime temps start to inch up month by month in spring, but evenings remain chilly. Do as the locals do and layer up if you plan to be outside in the evening.
Spring brings a bump in special events and awards, including high-profile functions like music-awards ceremonies and concerts.
Las Vegas in summer heats up, and then just keeps going, busting temperature records and looking good doing it. A sweltering outside climate is balanced by an arctic blast of air conditioning inside, which is blissfully sheltered from the dry desert heat.
Pool season makes a big splash in late spring and hits its peak in summer. Day clubs and pool parties rule the Strip’s top pool party venues, though many other hotels offer poolside bliss sans bumpin’ beats for those who prefer relaxing to raucousness.
Despite the blazing daytime heat, evenings are mercifully tolerable. Take advantage by booking patio dining at a popular spot like Border Grill, Mon Ami Gabi, Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar, or SW Steakhouse.
Expect to see a weather alert or two pop up on your phone. July through early September is Las Vegas’ monsoon season, when sudden storms can blow in, bringing downpours and sometimes flooding.
As summer tourism winds down, convention season ramps up, bringing tens of thousands of professionals to town. Fall also welcomes a slow slide in temperature that’s first detected in the chillier nighttime air.
If you’re not in town for a convention (or even if you are), look beyond convention-center-adjacent hotels for better deals and more availability.
As with most things, Vegas celebrates Halloween in a big—and decidedly adult—way, with nightclubs around the city going all in on the sexy-spooky holiday.
Most pools, especially those with a major party scene, close in the fall. But don’t worry, party monsters—Vegas clubs have no off-season, so you can still find a white-hot dance floor even when the weather cools.
