We had an amazing 1-night Valentines Day getaway at the Marsden. The location is very good, about 10min drive outside of Cromwell in the lakeside suburb of Pisa Moorings. Our 1-bedroom apartment was located on the edge of a small embayment coming off Lake Dunstan, with the large balcony extending out over the water. The apartment was large and airy with full length windows providing views across the small lagoon. Our luxury apartment had a large open plan kitchen/dining/living area with comfortable seating and TV viewing. The AC worked well and the free Wifi internet worked was fast and dependable. There was a washer and dryer unit out in the garage. The bed was comfortable the area very quiet so we were able to have a very peaceful sleep. We planned to have breakfast at the resort restaurant, however upon inspection of the dining area and finding it unappealing (indoors, dark, cramped, busy) we decided to hit Subway and have a picnic breakfast on the lakefront. We expected there to be a nice outdoor eating area to enjoy the nice summer weather. Overall we had an amazing stay and would highly recommend it to other travelers.

From arrival/check in to the beautiful resort to checking out everything was perfect.
We arrived at the resort and was greeted by two lovely staff members who were very welcoming, they were friendly with such wonderful customer service skills and enthusiastic about there job and such great smiles ! We were showed exactly were we were staying and how to get there.
On arrival to our apartment we were greeted by a lady who was servicing one of the other units she was very welcoming and warm and explained we could use the garage for parking .
We got in to our apartment and absolutely blown away the room smelt amazing it was lovely and warm it was impeccably clean, the layout and style Was 10 out of 10 it was like walking into a brand-new show home. The view outside was picture perfect the bathroom was amazing such wonderful pressure in the showers , the bed was super comfy like sleeping on clouds the whole facility was beautiful and clean ! In the evenings it was lovely and quiet it felt safe and just like being at home!
The Moorings for the boat were exceptionally cool was wonderful to be able to wake up in the morning go downstairs and take the boat onto the lake.
We have had many Stays around New Zealand at hotels and apartments And to my surprise many of these considered themselves as five star In my opinion the lake resort in Cromwell was the best experience and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay at a 10 star facility !
From now on when visiting anywhere in Central Otago This will be the only place we will stay
Thank you for the amazing experience !

Lovely accommodation with comfortable beds and very clean, modern bathroom. The room would benefit from a microwave as there are bowls, plates etc as well as a toaster and kettle. Every room has an outdoor sitting area on the lake. Convenient location - Cromwell under 10 minutes drive.

Marsden Lake Resort is marketed as a 5 star hotel. We stayed 2 nights. The one bedroom villa without a spa was spacious and clean. The vinyl on the kitchen floor was marked and could be replaced for this standard of hotel. We appreciated the king size bed which was remade on the second day and the extra fluffy blankets. We enjoyed the tiled bathroom with heated tiled floor. The heat pump kept the villa warm. The kitchen was large. It would be handy to have a condeminium with instructions on how to work the dishwasher being an unfamiliar brand. Also a notice on check out time. The villa looked across the inlet to the other units which is a little strange. Not all villas have a spa pool. Not all units are as spacious as the one bedroom stayed in. The prices of the units seem to fluctuate remarkably from day to day. Booking two nights in a row the second night was considerly more expensive than the first for the same villa. Something to be aware of is that Marsden Hotel does not accept all eftpos cards and if a credit card is used there is an extra charge. The reception staff are dressed in very casual clothes. A suggestion maybe uniforms would be more representative of a 5 star hotel. On some occasions there seemed to be a language barrier with some reception staff. This hotel is located in Cromwell and has the potential to be just as good as a 5 Star hotel in Wanaka, Queenstown or Auckland!

Beautiful venue but was very tarnished by the disgusting customer service. Never in my life have I experienced someone so rude in front of house. We traveled all over the South Island and everywhere was amazing except this place! This place we actually splurged on over $1000 for 3 nights. We were so excited. We booked through Expedia and on arrival the rude lady at reception made us feel so unwelcome we had booked for 2 adults and 1 child. The room only had 1 bed so I went back to double check she basically said that's your problem and you booked through Expedia not us. I was gobsmacked. There was a fold out couch in the room so I asked for a set of sheets and spare pillow. She said no i need to upgrade to a family room for another $1000. I'm not joking 5 times I went back to reception and back to our room. In the end I said I'm not paying more I'll just take the top sheet off our bed. A nice guy from laundry brought us a spare set of bedding. Thankfully the accommodation was gorgeous and we enjoyed our 3 nights but for over $1000 I didn't expect to be such an inconvenience to them. They didn't even give us a third towel so for 3 nights my 7 year old and I shared a towel. Seriously 😂 you wouldn't read about it. Great location though and it was spacious inside, deck was gorgeous and had lovely big couch and outside table. They need to Seriously review the staff and by the looks of some of the other reviews other people think so too!

Hmmm let’s start with the positives,
The views from the room spectacular, the ducks on the lake the serenity of the surroundings. Clear crisp water, sounds of the birds chirping in the willows surrounding the banks. Beautiful views

The room is entered was a surprise, very warm in the room on the first day of autumn. It had all the amenities that you need for a one night stay, could use with a wee bit of an update for price, but the location is on point

Air conditioning did not work in our room, after ringing reception several times on my own personal cell phone we were greeted by a restaurant manager, and bought us over a fan as the room was unbelievably warm and uncomfortable. The man tried to work the air conditioning unit himself to know avail.

All in all, the hotel was nothing to rave about. To reflect the price of this day I would expect working air conditioning unit, couch in the room to relax on, and a water blast on the deck would not hurt.

Was nice to try but probably wouldn’t stay here again.

Hi Jaden. Yes sometimes tech can fail us at times in this case with the Air conditioning not working 100% We are glad our staff went above and beyond to try help alleviate the issue for you. In reference to the cleanliness of the decking, due to our Beautiful and natural surroundings complete with birds and willdlife, our housekeeping do their best to keep it tidy. Nature is out of our control however on a daily basis. Grateful for you giving us the positives!

My Husband and l arrived yesterday at what we thought was going to be luxurious accommodation for our honeymoon.

The room was filthy!!!!!!!! Dead flies on window sills, every surface was thick with dust, cob webs on the ceiling, toilet had mould around the rim of the bowl. There were black hairs in the bottom of the fridge the list goes on!!

We took photos and l cleaned what l could, then in the morning l went and informed reception of the state of the room. They told me the cleaner’s had been under the pump and they would send someone up to clean the room while we were out, she also said she would have the manager call us - neither of which happened!

I also pointed out that the reception was filthy with dirt and dead flies at the entrance .

We also sent a email to the Heritage management with no reply. Nothing from anyone. This was unit 9B and it is the furthest thing from luxury we have ever seen and terrible service especially for people celebrating something as special as their honeymoon!

Shame we can’t show all the pictures of how bad this was. So disappointed. Never again.

Repeat customer, booked months early and due to expensive price of rooms I choose downstairs option with mountain view. Not impressed to listen to laundry noises at 10pm from a cupboard backing onto our room. Did not pay $240 for noise checking online I could now book an upstairs room for $10 extra, was not offered this option or an upgrade even though place nearly empty. Room nice but kept to a minimum only 2 of everything, not even an extra cup or towel. Will not be returning even though I love the views (except this room 8D, it's just rubbish bins in the carport to look at.) Not acceptable for overpriced room.

Beautiful location and views. The cleanliness of the room left alot of doubts about the Heritage hotel taking the Covid restrictions seriously. Upon arrival at the hotel we were told our room was not ready due to extra cleaning and then required sanitization. After an hour we were told our room was ready. Once arriving in our room we were amazed with the views and the size of the room. However, that's where our joy soon turned to disappointment. There were grubby fingerprints and handprints over all the handles and windows. The large glass coffee table was covered in marks from coffee cups, glasses. The glasses in cupboard all covered in fingerprints. The cushion on armchair had a large brown stain on it. The shower had black mold on the grout between the tiles, not to mention the handprints on the glass door. I fail to see how this room was cleaned let alone cleaned the so called extra cleaning to sanitize. For a place selling themselves as a luxury accommodation hotel they set the bar very low. For the price we were paying for the night we would of expected a lot more. Another disappointing thing was upon arrival none of the staff behind the reception desk nor the guy behind the bar were wearing masks. When we informed the lady on the desk about the state of room upon checkout, she said they were short staffed and were struggling to keep up. The lady did offer us a free breakfast. Bit of a lame excuse in regards to the staffing shortage. Especially in these times where cleanliness and germs are at the front of everyone's minds. All I can say is, make sure your cleaners are up to scratch as the views alone wont keep people coming back.

The setting was lovely overlooking the water and the property was furnished very well and comfortably. The safe in the bedroom wasn’t working and there were no instructions for it but we didn’t really need to use it, I reported it when we left so they could rectify for the next guests.

However we had intended to self cater here and I was rather disappointed by the lack of cooking utensils etc simple things like a pair of kitchen scissors, oven gloves, a decent sized cafetière the one we had was hardly big enough for one cup let alone 2.

Also the laundry arrangements were really strange…I understood from the description of the room (prior to booking) that we would have a washing machine in the unit but we discovered that it was actually hidden in a cupboard outside !! I am unsure whether this was meant to be available for all 4 units in the building we were in. To be honest for the amount charged I was expecting to have our own machine. Also there was no clothes airer to dry the clothes that are not able to be tumble dried.

We enjoyed the peace and tranquility here but feel that it is overpriced for the facilities provided.
