If you ever get a chance to visit The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, do not hesitate. The property is absolutely stunning. Perched atop the cliffs, you feel immediately relaxed, immersed in nature, and in constant awe of the views surrounding you. The lodge itself is luxurious, and every single detail has been thought out. The staff are impeccable and make you feel like family. The all inclusive meals were delicious and rival anything I've had at the best restaurants in New Zealand. If you enjoy wine tasting, and golf - this is the perfect getaway for you. The golf course is one of the best in the world and meticulously maintained. And right on the property. Non-golfers have plenty to keep them busy with other activities and tours. There are tons of wineries in the area that are easy to get to and the wines are world class. My husband and I cannot wait to come back.

Set in a spectacular hilltop setting overlooking Hawke Bay and Kidnappers Golf Course, this is one of those special places that will imprint on memory like few other accommodation experiences. The food is superb, the staff and organisation is without doubt at the pinnacle of fine service. Nothing was too much trouble and requests were simply responded with, "of course". Room service was provided inconspicuously but regularly (like towels replaced and bed remade while at breakfast). Just couldn't fault the place.

From being greeted as we drove up to check out we had a wonderful stay.
On arrival we were given a tour of the lodge facilities and then given is drink before lunch.
After lunch we were shown our suite. It had everything we needed in an understated way. Our view was to the east which included farm land ,the golf course and sea.
We stayed on the spring special which included a free massage per person per night. You could upgrade to another treatment for a small charge. I had a manicure, hot stone massage, facial and a normal massage. They were all very good
Breakfast and lunch were the same menu each day but the dinner menu changed each night.
Dinner was preceded with drinks and canapés between 6pm and 7 pm. Wines and basics spirits were included. Cocktails were charged.
For dinner there was a choice of a 5 course tasting menu or 3 course a la carte(choice between 2 entrees and 2 mains)
One nights had oysters as a entree and then for an extra $65 there was a special main for 2 which included fish, scallops and prawns.
The food was all excellent but my only criticism is that they had no choice for dessert for a diabetic and if you wanted cheese you had to pay.
There were plenty of activities available( free and charged)
The lodge is a destination and as such you don’t feel the need to leave. However one day we ventured out to sample Hawke’s Bays wines. Which leads to another slight criticism- the included wines were a narrow choice. There was no Pinot Gris and the other varieties was a choice of one. It is in a wine region and I’m sure they get a good deal on the wines. Most people to not drink much and you are paying a lot per night
Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Having stayed at the sister Kauri Cliffs as well as several other luxury lodges in NZ I’m disappointed that this doesn’t quite reach the standard of the others.

The grounds are huge and the views lovely, we enjoyed using the electric cycles (it’s very hilly) but be aware there are only 5 so it’s first come first served, they really should have more.

The rooms are very spacious but the decor, while attempting to be somewhat rustic, comes across more as basic and cheap. The bed is huge and the linen and pillows luxurious but internet speed was iffy from the room, at times barely working, not acceptable in this day and age.

The food in our “all inclusive package” was unfortunately just average, the main courses at dinner were good, just not exceptional, and at this level they should be exceptional, however the included wines were all of a very good standard. The breakfasts were regrettably disappointing, to be frank the standard of a 4 star hotel, uninspiring to say the least.

We enjoyed the spa treatments but more effort should be made to create a more luxurious and inviting ambience at the spa, it’s just as basic as you can get.

We didn’t play golf but I would expect the course to be in immaculate condition but very challenging. The pro shop is very well equipped and prices reasonable.

The staff were all well trained, friendly and provided excellent service.

I had a 90-minute relaxation massage at the lodge spa 4 days back. Disappointing is an absolute understamement! Having had numerous massages in multiple countries and various spas, I know what to expect from a top notch spa and this sadly has to be by far the most disappointing one! For the price charged and the reviews online, I expected something else entirely. The masseuse didn't seem to have a clue about what she was doing. She was all over the place. Started with my legs, did the body, went to the head, went back to the feet and then again back to the shoulders. Didn't pay particular attention to the areas to be focused on which was stated on their info request form. The massage bed was heated and I was not asked if the temperature was ok for me. I wasn't offered anything to drink at the beginning of the massage and by the end of the massage I was dehydrated and sweaty! What a sick feeling to end up with after a massage! The masseuse mentioned she would give me a face massage but decided not to in the end for some reason and just kept quiet. Why mention it if you have no intention of following through?! I had asked for no oil on my head or face. The lady was so lazy to wash her hands after the body massage. She just wiped her hands on a towel and gave me a head massage with her oily hands and I ended up with oily hair and some even on my face that she touched accidentally. No apologies given for this at all. At the end of the massage I was not asked if I wanted the oil left on me or if I wanted it wiped off with a warm towel or atleast offered a shower. Ever heard of giving the customer the choice??! After the massage I was told I could help myself to a glass of water if I want.

The masseuse was a snooty, snobby lady and very fake in her conversation with me. And after all this, they had the audacity to put out a form asking for gratuities! What a joke! If I enjoy the service received I have no hesitation to offer gratuities but after such insulting behavior and a ridiculous massage there was no way I would...

While waiting in front of the reception for my husband to pick me up after the massage, the front desk girl from the spa I had met tried opening the door to the reception and asked if it was locked for me. She said it was very weird for it to be locked. The guy at the reception probably heard me talking to my husband on the phone describing my experience at the spa and decided to lock the door! LOL! Poor show for a renowned lodge. Unfortunately the staff either make or break the place.

My experience in a nutshell at the spa at The Farm at Cape Kidnappers... All smoke and mirrors and no real substance or even the faintest idea of proper service!

We spent 6 days here in January. We have always loved New Zealand and especially the Kiwis who are so warm and hospitable. But this divine place exceeded all expectations. From the exquisite food... morning, noon and night, to the rustic and inviting interiors, everything was superb. We went for long walks, participated in any activity that was on offer and did the Can-Am ride to the adjoining property which we absolutely loved and highly recommend! The bucolic countryside marries with towering cliffs over the Pacific and it is a feast for the eyes wherever you look. The E-bikes were fabulous! This place somehow draws you in and captures your heart! I thought my two teen daughters would be bored, but they were just as enamored. Above all else, it's the staff who are genuinely interested in your happiness. In particular, James, Laurent, and Bethany blew us away with their outstanding customer service. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique, intimate experience in a pristine location in the land of the long white cloud. P.S. Check your ego at the door, it's not that kind of place... 😊

We've enjoyed a number of outstanding New Zealand lodges and restaurants, and the Farm at Cape Kidnappers is at the very top in the consistent excellent quality of their meals - not easy to do with 5 courses that change daily, with amazingly flexible options for vegetarians, pescatarians, and even teenagers (although I personally can't imagine forgoing their gourmet selections for custom pizza, pasta, burgers, etc., our teenager did this on occasion and was very pleased). An outstanding sommelier as well.
The staff were great and left nothing to be desired. Complimentary ebikes got us up the steep hills to the views at the end of the peninsula, and interesting hikes from the lodge (some a bit challenging) were enjoyed as well.
Our cabin looked out over rolling hills and the ocean beyond.
Highest recommendation!

Our stay at “The Farm” was so great we decided to extend it an extra day, completely changing our itinerary, but it was worth it! The staff is THE most genuine, friendly and accommodating group of lovely young people we’ve met. They make you feel completely at home!
The rooms (we had to move, so saw two) are beautiful, spacious and comfortable, with stunning views. The food is fantastic and the golf is a blast! The yellow tees are really short, making for an extremely enjoyable round :)
The gannet colony is a real treat! Get out there however you can (hike, bike, horse) and take a picnic. It’s a one-of-a-kind spot!

We have mixed feelings looking back on our stay at Cape Kidnappers. On one hand the accommodations, scenery, and lodge were spectacular and several employees really made our experience enjoyable. On the other hand, the lack of transparency in our billing and lack of attention my wife experienced after her biking accident left a spoiled taste in our mouth. We have a lot of friends that are planning to travel to New Zealand in the near future and we are hesitant to recommend Cape Kidnappers.

We chose a 2 day honeymoon package in a Hilltop Suite and were thrilled with the hospitality, service from every staff member we met, design and flair of the interiors, comfort of our suite, panoramic views from every window or outlook, exquisite food, 24 page wine list, fabulous spa... Words are not enough to convey how spectacular it was. We will be back.
The Farm sets a high standard which made the subsequent venue feel totally lack lustre and ordinary.
Personally I can only compare it to the truly fabulous Dolder Grand hotel in Zurich which felt like a 7 star experience.
