We spent one night at Carrington Estate. There was only one other guest there at the same time as us and we were upgraded to a room with a better view. The room was very nice - spacious and warm. Excellent bed, lovely view. The wash basin was cracked, which surprised me, and the towels were on the small side. The restaurant was lovely - excellent staff whom we particularly enjoyed conversing with, both for dinner and at breakfast. The meals were very good and we'd definitely recommend the restaurant if you're in the area. This would be a lovely place to stay if you play golf... the area is beautiful and it would be lovely in summer. I liked reading about the work being done to support the local environment and that our service staff were from the local region.

Living in Northland we had never visited Carrington before so decided to stay for two nights. We stayed in one of the villas, 4 adults and a 5 month old baby. The villa was great, everything we needed, and the most glorious view over the golf Course to the coast.

Restaurant was a delight, we had a coeliac in our party, and we would like to commend the chef on his wonderful attention to alleviating fears of cross contamination and making suggestions for her meal.

Thank you for your review and such a befitting title for Carrington Estate. It is one of the joys of welcoming so many new guests to our property. We're glad to hear your villa fulfilled your requirements they are designed to be a home away from home, albeit a home on an active golf course. The restaurant staff are always happy to cater to dietary requirements. Please join us again soon.

For my husband’s 60th I booked 2 nights at Carrington Estate. We had the most fabulous weekend!!! The booking in was smooth - Our room was beautiful with everything spotlessly clean. Huge bed!!! Wifi was excellent, TV reception excellent.
We had two evening meals and one breakfast and cannot fault the food at all. The wait staff were fabulous especially Jergen, he was so nice and so accommodating. We had a lovely local girl waitressing on both evenings, she did a fabulous job and was so nice. We wanted to watch rugby in the bar so they bought our meals and drinks to us - very special 😁. We loved the KariKari Calypso Sav Blanc. We didn’t play golf but enjoyed watching others trying to get their balls across the water features 🤣. The pool was beautiful, we used the spa pool but not the main pool. We were blessed with a spectacular sunset. We took our E Bikes and it is an easy cycle to Matai Bay and Tokerau beach. The landscaping is beautiful! being an avid gardener and having owned my own gardening business what let the Estate down was the state of the gardens, full of weeds, gorse, untidy with dead debri everywhere. First impressions are important and my first impression was what a lovely place but the gardens need a lot of attention. The other thing I was disappointed with was stepping out of our room and hearing a staff member below the balcony on her phone swearing pretty badly. I’m no prude but to me there are standards that employees need to abide by. I also feel that the wait staff should all be supplied with a uniform . The dining room had not been vacuumed before breakfast and salt that had been spilt everywhere the night before was still there at breakfast service. I make these comments because Carrington is special and a couple of small changes and attention to detail would make a big difference. Beautiful spot I fell in love! But I want to come back and sort the gardens out😂

My feelings are exactly the same as sallytheresep. Took my girlfriend for her birthday and was disappointed - not the luxury getaway you are promised on the website.

Found it strange they asked for a copy of my ID. They also have signs up in the rooms saying if you turn the AC up and it breaks you'll be charged for it. Bad vibes.

Save your money and go elsewhere.

We were very disappointed the whole place needs some TLC, the Golf course is in poor condition, yes they are in a drought but no need for weeds in the bunkers!
On our first night went to dinner and I must say the steak was the worst I ever had and the presentation what presentation considering the pictures on the website., we did let the staff know. Next Morning at Breakfast we were told only one item off the menu considering we had paid for full breakfast. A trip to see management was required, granted they listened and took the steak off the bill, next morning very obvious management had had words we were ignored by some of the staff and service was very slow. Ordered the same breakfast for the next two days and they we were different other guests had to keep asking for this and that. We spoke with other guests who were also disappointed. We decided that we would eat out after the first night and had two good meals in Mangonui. We have since received compensation from management for the breakfasts, all i can say its the worst experence we have had travelling the world and NZ and we will not be going back to the Carrington Estate. Just one last point the Bar is only open 3 part days a week, very disappointing and a wine glass was left on the terrace for all our stay, its probably still there!!!

The location is beautiful and the outlook from the restaurant is stunning! But the service let’s the restaurant down. We made a reservation and arrived on time - within 5-10 minutes of being seated 3 or 4 different staff approached us to take our order! We felt rushed.

We ordered entree and wine and within 5 minutes of serving entree 3 staff asked if we were ready to order main! After mains were cleared service stopped! We waited and waited for someone to come and ask if we wanted coffee or dessert! After a long wait we decided to leave - we commented when we were paying that no one had approached us to take our dessert order but there was no acknowledgement!

Overall I felt the menu was basic but having said that our mains were very nice.

Overall a disappointing experience!

Our group of 32 were accommodated in 8 of the 3 bedroom villas for 2 nights. The accommodation overlooked the golf course with extended views out to the sand dunes. It was such a lovely outlook and the sunsets were amazing.
The villas were well equiped, clean and comfortable.Half of our group decided to eat in the restaurant on one night and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Reception were very friendly and helpful with our entire stay.
The golf course proved to be very challenging and with the recent drought conditions, was a little patchy in places. having said that we still enjoyed playing and also enjoyed the winery cafe after our game.

For those of you travelling to the top of the north island and not going past The Bay of Islands you are missing out on a huge treat especially golfers. The Carrington Estate has a stunning well kept golf course with difficult to beat views from the clubhouse, course and rooms. Our group of 5 shared a well equipped 3 bedroom Villa as a package which included lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast with unlimited golf. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. It’s only 1 1/2 hours north of Paihia and well worth a visit.

Stayed at the Carrington for 3 nights. Beautiful views over the golf course and ocean. Byron at front desk was excellent very polite and knowledgeable. Gave us some great tips on what to see around area. Food options are limited breakfast fr 8-10. Dinner 6-8. If you want lunch you have to go to the winery up the hill, found it very limited menu. We had bread board with dips was okay nothing special. If I were stay again I wou”d book lodge 5/6 they over the golf course fully. If you tastings at winery they charge you $7.00 NZD. The wine from Karikari estate is anywhere from $25-40 bottle.
Great place to stay for relaxing weekend very quiet. Loved sitting on veranda in morning with coffee enjoying the quiet.

While we enjoyed exploring the area and proximity to Cape Reinga the fact the restaurant was average and the service only ok we felt value was not great. No other restaurant options close by. Had a nice stay but it did not meet our expectations. Might be better in summer

Not sure you will get much of a vegan menu, they have very limited offerings for vegetarians. On our 3 night stay the bar was not open, so the only drinks were from the restaurant. The wines are good. If you go hopefully you have a better experience than we did

Mid may can be beautiful or downright horrible depending if we get an Autumn storm or not. Should still be fun and the further north you are the better. I would ask Carrington's about getting partners for Golf. It was extremely quiet when we went there at that was close to peak season! Really great place - really recommend it.
