So much more than the world's first salt hotel: we are Palacio de Sal. On the shores of the majestic Salar de Uyuni -under an astonishing sky full of magnificent colours and stars- stands, bursting with historical significance, the Palacio de Sal (The Salt Palace). A haven of magical moments where every end of the day is the evidence of an irrefutable fact: no dream, however extraordinary it may seem, is ever diluted before it comes true.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a beautiful upmarket hotel just outside the village. There are lots of different areas to sit with log fires and also a room with a snooker table. Our room was nicely furnished.

However we had the buffet meal and the food was nearly cold. A couple of people in our group had upset stomachs including my husband which I feel may have been due to the food not being kept at a proper temperature. The drinks were overpriced and the water was expensive - as there was nowhere else to buy water we were a captive market.

Did the 3 day trip the wrong way round so 11 hours in jeep in day 1 which was exhausting after first flight from La Paz, night at Takya Desierto which was good, another day in the jeep then unprepossessing looking half under construction arrival at Pakacio de Sal and I was ready to be disappointed. Could not have been further from the truth. The interior is fantastic - beautifully done, staff were really friendly, room was great 137, bathroom a treat after the dust, food good and done with enthusiasm, lovely mixed clientele. Breakfast with fresh juices and omelettes made to order was fabulous. Really liked this place and recommend highly.

No one knew where it was. I spent an hour or so with the taxi driver trying to find it. The setting is fantastic, the theme is just carried throughout the building and it is just wonderful. The staff were very helpful. Unless you hired a guide you were left to your own transport arrangements

This was the highlight of our 3 day/2 night tour. I only wish we could have stayed here a second night to enjoy the hotel itself. The staff and service was excellent. They had a game room of darts, pool and some golf clubs that i can only assume is for hitting balls out on the salt flats. At night not only did we have electric heating pads for our bed but they have us hot water bottles to sleep with. They also had a rooftop area mostly indoors but a little outdoor viewing area as well. This would be a good place for families, friends or a couple.

Of course to prove that everything was made of salt we ,like probably hundreds (or thousands) of others, had to lick a few objects. The specifics of the room are simple but tastefully done. The bathroom/shower area is pretty large. I have nothing but good things to say. I will have to note though that because this was part of a tour I dont know how much we paid for a night here. I imagine because it is only 1 of 2 or 3 salt hotels that it wasnt cheap but whatever it was it was still worth it to stay here.

You have arrived in rural Bolivia and are staying in a hotel made of salt on the edge of the Salar, so European/USA '5 star' it isn't but that's all part of of the experience and we have to say that the Palacio did not disappoint.

We stayed overnight in the midst of winter but found our comfortable room had been heated up nicely prior to our arrival at midnight and there was an electric blanket on the bed for good measure. The hot water took a little while to arrive through the taps but that wasn't a problem.

Breakfast was continental style and you could eat as much or a little as you wished.

On our return from our trip on the Salar as darkness fell and the temperature dropped we were greeted with the welcome sight of roaring fires in the public rooms and plenty of hot tea available before dinner. There were a number of guests for dinner and we were treated to a theatrical display as our 7 hour salt-cooked chicken made it's appearence from the oven, and the meal matched the occasion.

To stay in a hotel made of salt was one of our many outstanding memories of Bolivia and one not to be missed. Our trip on a small part of the Salar was also spectacular and made all the more memorable due to the efforts of our driver Alex and guide Marcos.

We stayed one night after a three day excursion. The hotel is entirely built in salt and the decor is impressive. Unfortunately although there are wood stoves everywhere, none is lit, and it is freezing all night and in the morning. People wear winter coats for dinner and breakfast. The bar is unusable. And they only start heating the rooms when you check in ! When you see the price you pay, this is unacceptable !
One advice: ask your chauffeur to stop and visit the hotel, but stay somewhere else !

If the visit to the Salt Flats in Uyuni was a unique experience, the stay at the Palacio de Sal was the cherry on the top!! After quite the journey to get there, one is rewarded with a feast for the eyes! The Hotel, built primarily from Salt Bricks or Salar was extraordinary to say the least! The decor, the lounge and the bedrooms in particular are fabulous. Electric Blankets and Quilts, heaters to keep you warm, even in the bathroom made for quite an experience. The service is good and the staff helpful.. but limited. The food is good .. but again limited.. so woe betide if you are a polite guest and do not rush to get ahead in the queue.. you could land up with left overs as we did.. Be sure to step outside for the sunset and sunrise.. breathtaking!

This place has so much potential and yet failed us in so many ways. I was extremely disappointed with the level of service and communication at this hotel.
CHECKIN: When we checked in, they did not inform us that we need to order Lunch 24 hours ahead. This means we can only eat whatever is at the bar. Which is a ham sandwich and chips. Very upsetting to hear. Other parts of check in was perfectly fine.
Dinner: Dinner was a open buffet which we were fine with. What was upsetting was the waiter. In the middle of our dinner, he approach us with a check for our two soft drinks and then rudely taps on our table and said "make sure you tip." I thought maybe I might have misunderstood him. But he came back with our change and again taps on the table and said "Tip. you have to leave Tip!" Wow... are you going to follow us to our room if we didnt tip?
Room condition: our heater was broken and one of the ceiling panels fell so we had a whole in our ceiling... I'm just going to leave it as that.
Checkout: 12:01PM I was heading out the room and the phone rang and it was front desk screaming at me that I need to leave the room. Lady suggested to have lunch at the bar and reminded us that we have to pay for it. Yes we are aware that we would have to pay extra to eat at the bar.
Free shuttle- Shuttle pulls up and broke down cause it was out of gas and we have to wait for another shuttle. We barely made our flight.
Hotel management needs to re-train, fix up their hotel and re brand.

A beautiful place, though located quite a distance from the town of Uyuni.
The beautiful décor, spacious layout, friendly staff !

Loved the salt domes in our upgraded rooms. So interesting! We watched the sunset in our room.

The hotel offers transfers to and from uyuni. However if you are unsure of your arrival time simply take a taxi. It’s probably a 20 min ride. Be sure to negotiate the price with the taxi driver in advance

You can easily book a tour organized by local tour operator through Veltra for instance. I booked a private tour therefore, a car with driver and guide came to the hotel to pick us up and drop off but if you are looking for joining a group tour, it seems that you need to reach the meeting point by yourself which could be distance from the hotel.
