From booking to checkout we had the best experience. Friendly and helpful management, Marina booked our Shuttle to and from the Tongariro Crossing which took out the stress of transport on the day of our hike. The cottage feel of the building is so cute and inside the room was well looked after and clean. It was cosy with the heater on when it got chilly. Bonus of a gorgeous view of Mt Ngauruhoe from our door. Thank you - I cannot wait to stay here again!!
Friendly comfortable place to stay around our intrepid crossing. Stayed itwo nights in Waimarino Room comfy beds and good showers. Easy access to Tongariro Crossing start and finish. Close to restaurants in National Park and the Chateau for an afternoon tea treat. Lovely gardens and a friendly cat made our day. Hosts very helpful thanks
We found this stay to be great in every way. Louis greeted us with a good look at the map and carefully explained what might work for us on our too-short stay. He patiently answered all our questions so that we now feel equipped to go out and explore! The Horopito Suite is ideal for us with everything we need. The room is roomy very clean, has lovely touches to make our stay comfortable. Thank you so much, we will make sure that we will stay here next time for longer!
The lodge has ratings of 9.3 and 9.8 and well deserved too. The place is immaculately maintained, both on the inside and out, including the grounds. Really thoughtful touches inside the room, we were at the Whanganui Suite. Has it's own kitchen, so you can do your breakfast yourself, especially good on the day you're doing the crossing. Marina & Louis are the perfect hosts, very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The breakfast they did for us on the day after the crossing - well real classy, haven't had this good a brekkie even at 7 star hotels I've been at. 9.9 for me.
Beautiful spot, perfect for 2nights to hike the crossing. Spacious spotless and quiet accommodation which felt like a bygone era of kiwi farmhouse/shearing quarters. Very welcoming and helpful host. I would thoroughly recommend over some the larger accommodation on offer. Trust me, you want somewhere to relax after that walk. We stayed in the Jerusalem suite - what was good: Spotlessly clean & so spacious Retro furniture in keeping with the era Plunger coffee a nice touch Well equipped shared kitchen with one other suite - perfect for self catering Comfy sheets & bedding New carpet lovely and room looks well heated for winter. Heated towel rail - a must! Not so good: The inner sprung wire mattress base, lots of partner disturbance The shub shower thing didn't drain & filled ankle deep when showering - I'm sure this will be fixed…
Perfect spot for pick up for shuttles for the Tongariro Crossing, so clean and well set up, lovely courtyard to sit and have a drink. Found Louis very welcoming and he had plenty of ideas of what to do around the area. We will certainly be staying there again on our return to ride the bike trails.
We had a lovely time at the lodge while staying 2 days at National Park to do the Tongariro crossing. From the start Louis was very quick to reply to my many emails and let me know about the Lodge’s crossing package. We decided to book with Louis as the well priced package included two nights accomodation, two breakfasts, one continental and one cooked, packed lunches and snacks for the walk and also a celebratory tipple after the walk . It also included return shuttles to the start and end of the walk with summit shuttles. To be fair, the accomodation is not modern if that is what you are after. It definitely has a rustic nostalgic vibe and I loved the old fashioned side cabinets and retro cups and saucers. Everything was also clean and tidy. Louis was very friendly but not intrusive. He gave us a few ideas of places to eat and a few places of interest we might like to see before our walk. We received our brekkie and lunches the night before the walk . Choices of cereal, boiled eggs, condiments and homemade bread, Yoghurt and juice was a good start to the day and our lunches included a sandwich, small bag of scroggin, apple, muesli bar and a peanut slab..what more could you ask for! We rocked up after the walk and he organised a lovely Pinot gris and beer for us to have in the sun while enjoying the company of Pirate the cat. We had a nice freshly cooked breakfast the next day in front of the sunny window and as the only couple having breakfast at that time we had really personal service which we loved. Louis is such a jack of all trades manning the reception and organising all the food as well! We’d like to say thanks for the lovely stay and we wish Louis and his family all the best for a great holiday season!…
We really enjoyed our stay at Tongariro Crossing Lodge and the Turoa self-catering unit felt like our home away from home! The unit had everything we needed, it was clean, cozy and warm. The location is also perfect for visiting the Whakapapa ski resort. The hosts were really friendly and helpful. Close to the lodge there is also a big playground (walking distance) that our daughter loved! We will definitely return to this lodge!
We had a nice stay at Tongariro Crossing Lodge. (just for one night). Comfortable and clean. We would stay there again. The weather outside was cold, but it was warm inside. (is this 200 characters long yet???...... ) Thanks!
Welcoming hosts, lovely comfortable room and delicious breakfast - even though we had not booked in advance. Just the right balance of privacy and friendliness. There's so much to do in this area we'll be back!
