The hotel was really nice, an old stone building, and nicely decorated. The room was big enough and comfortable, the balcony door was new and soundproofed. We had a small balcony also, which was nice. The bathroom was modern and the water pressure great. The best part of the hotel was its swimming pool. Very elegan and clean, with lounge music and confy sunbeds. Perfect for relaxation. The prices of the pool bar were affordable and they would always bring you a towel and glass of water. The breakfast was tasty and had variety. It was a buffet but due to covid they´d had to serve it to us, and that wasn´t a problem. The girls at the buffet were very polite and always serving with a smile. There was also a parking inside of the hotel. The location for me was perfect, 5 minutes walking from the center so there wasn´t any noise during nighttime.

However there were few things I didn´t quite like. To start with our double bed were two single ones pushed together with the same sheets, the beds were confortable though. The mini fridge was way too noise, we had to turn it off at night otherwise we couldn´t sleep and I´m not a light sleeper. The a/c was a bit noisy too but you could sleep. We complained about the fridge and they checked on it but it wasn´t fixed. I think the fridge was very old and beyond reparation. We stayed there for four nights and the breakfast was almost the same everyday, maybe they should change it a bit more often.

Finally, on Sundays the swimming pool area was turned into a kind of restaurant with live music which is fine. The problem is that they kept playing until 2.30 am. Our room was far from the swimming pool so the noise was muffled and we slept late that night but there were rooms looking directly to the swimming pool and I dont´find it professional and respectful from the hotel to have a live band until that hours knowing that there were guests who may have been bothered.

The Peloponnese peninsula is a wonderful destination, with very friendly people and its peculiarity is that each area offers the traveller a different picture, landscape and cultural wise, all of them worth exploring.

Our base was at Areopolis, at the hotel Kastro Maini,

The hotel is run by a family, and they all did their best to make our stay unforgetable,

The public areas are pleasant just as the rooms, which are medium in size, with a balcony, and a fully equipped bathroom. What we liked was that the room was meticulously cleaned every day and the towels were changed daily.
,
The breakfast offered a wide choice of mostly local tasty products. It bothered me a little that the same things were offered every day, I would have liked some variety.

Would I recommend this hotel to you? Definitely, if you visit this hotel you won't be disappointed.

Kastro Maini is a charming family hotel where we stayed for a few nights during a roadtrip through Greece. It is located just at the edge of Areopolis, a little town with narrow streets and lots of traditional Greek restaurants. It is the ideal spot to visit a bit more of the beautiful region of Mani. The rooms of the hotel were very clean and we were rewarded with a beautiful sunset view of the pool and the sea. Breakfast was in buffet form with plenty of choice and variety. We also had a nice lunch in the hotel. The pool area has a large beautiful swimming pool with luxurious lounge beds and a hip pool bar where you can order a refreshing cocktail. As we went in september we almost had the entire swimming pool to ourselves. We also booked a whole body massage in the hotel's spa. The masseuse Helen did a excellent job in relaxing my muscles even with the excessive sun burn at my back.

Very nice quaint place.

Rooms: The room was big enough, not big, but also not too small. The balcony was large with mountain views. The shower was kept quite small but usable without any problems. It was very clean, the rooms were cleaned daily.

Hotel itself: The staff was nice and accommodating. Located right on a main road, yet it was quiet. Parking spaces are ample. The lobby is large and very comfortably furnished with couch by the fireplace, with dining tables and quiet lounge music. We had days when it was noisy in the hotel as well as days when it was quieter and more relaxing. It really depends on the visitors and whether they are able to close a door that has a handle, like a civilized person, or just slam it. Nothing else can be heard from the neighbouring rooms.

Environment: To the beautiful center with many restaurants and some bars it is only about 5 minutes walk. A cheap petrol station is also right in the village, as is a supermarket (which is completely overcrowded). Both the hotel and the town centre have castle charm and character.

Breakfast:
There was a sufficient selection, which was nicely arranged and steadily replenished. Only a changing selection did not exist, this would still be missing.

We loved our stay at this hotel! The location, atmosphere and service are all amazing. The staff were all very friendly, and we loved the family-run vibe. Great selection for breakfast in the morning, and the pool bar serves delicious cocktails and snacks throughout the day. We were always able to get spots by the pool and it was very relaxing. The hotel is kid-friendly but has a good mix of ages. It is a short walk away from the heart of Areopolis town - steps from amazing restaurants and cocktail bars in the evening. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a home base to explore the mani region.

Family styled hotel makes you feel at home. Very close to the city Areopoli. Breakfast is nice with fresh fruits and veggies. The juice are not fresh made.

What is not impressing is old towels seems to be many years old, and not fixed power outlet on the wall in the room, which seems not to be very safe to use, so please make some improvements to these details. :) Thank you.

The whole experience was fabulous! We stayed for 13 nights in August/September and couldn't have asked for more. The rooms are great and are kept spotless. Couldn't fault the housekeeping. Air con is super efficient. The pool and gardens are immaculate. This is a family run hotel and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. The pool snacks are tasty and great value and the service is brilliant. We had the best stay and would highly recommend.

Less luxurious than it appears in the photos, still a good hotel. Small and simple rooms. Kind staff. Good breakfast. We were there out of season so the pool area was not open. Free parking. A stone's throw from the center.

We visited the Maini Castle hotel some years back and I just came across it while reading about Mani. The hotel is situated in the heart of historic Mani in Areopoli which is approximately 3 hours from Athens. Our room was ok I can say with a kind of traditional style. Like all other buildings in the area the whole structure is stone-built.
The place here is unique for a starting point to different excursions like the Stone-Built-Tower Villages of Mani, the Monasteries of Byzantine MYSTRAS, famous and most popular MONEMVASIA, KARDAMILI, the cosmopolitan STOUPA, and even KALAMATA, and the Caves of DYROS.
The owners are kind and always helpful and will guide tourists move about to the different sites if they are asked to.
I cannot say that we had a beautiful view from the room we had but most of the time we were out. It was just fields with really many stones and prickly pear plants which were really all over.
What we enjoyed more though was breakfast. We found home made delicacies –everything home made and good quality honey since the owners are honey producers. There are jars of honey on sale and one can buy from the owners’ produce directly.
