We arrived when the office was shut, but a quick call on their intercom was answered that our accommodation had been prepared and we just needed to head to the unlocked room (Tahi Suite).

I was super impressed - the room was spacious, clean, and comfy. The Tahi suite has its own private outdoor area and is located on the ground floor. The kitchenette was full of clean gadgets and there was a little packet of milk in the fridge ready to use.

The TV took a few moments to figure out and you do hear the comings and goings of other guests. But you can’t beat the location and friendliness and the care of the staff.

After researching places to stay in Raglan I really found it hard to find something that was modern close to town and reasonably priced with good safe parking. I liked the look and reviews of Raglan Sunset Motel but was still not sure so decided to take the risk of just turning up at the property to "try before I buy" as it was not a busy time of the year. I was not disappointed. After checking out a couple of the units we chose the king studio which was nicely modernised and although it did not have a kitchen, it did have a jug, coffee plunger, toaster and a frypan along with a decent sized fridge. The only thing missing was the kitchen sink which was the only downside as you had to wash dishes and fill up the jug in the bathroom.
The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was well appointed although the shower did only have one ring nozzle which only gave one pressure.
The TV only had freeview but that was fine with us. We chose a unit on the ground floor which had a little seating area outside but it did lead into a rather public larger area of seating areas which I imagine could either be an advantage or disadvantage. We did take our mountain bikes to Raglan and was pleased we were able to wash them down on the property.
Staff were friendly and I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others.
My only suggestion would be that if the motel is not busy then they should distance the guests with a room between each one as we could hear the people in the room next door who stayed up talking til late.

Thank you so much for your 5-star recommendation. We will make sure you know where the bigger guest kitchen is next time you stay. We do try and provide extra spacing, sometimes it's tricky with different room configurations and booking dates but feel free to request next time as well. Thanks again for your stay and the feedback. Take care.

This motel is really well situated for everything in Raglan ... except the surf beach. We arrived early and were able to get into the room early. The lady at reception was very friendly and helpful. It was clean and tidy and very spacious with a private courtyard. Walking distance to restaurants in the main street. The door has opaque glass which allowed the early morning light in. Perhaps a curtain or something over that would be great. Also we couldn't get the TV to work and as reception had closed we couldn't do much about it.

We had a one night stay in an upper floor unit with balcony, which faced the evening sun, which was ideal for having our evening meal out there. It appears the room has been recently refurbished & was spacious. We would stay here again if we were in the area, just one small point, even though there was a microwave, cutlery, plates, cups etc. There was no kitchen sink to wash them up after use, there was a communal kitchen, with oven/stove & sink to do your own thing, but we wouldn't expect to carry our dirty stuff down the passage & back.

Spacious motel room close to walk to everything and Jo was friendly and helpful.
Room 13 the bathroom was old and worn with a tiny corner shower and two single beds pushed together to make a king.
The room has a fan and to circulate air in the heat you need the windows open which was too noisy to sleep. The night club music goes late and people are noisy going home so if you are sensitive to this like me then a quieter location may be better suited. Aircon would also help, then the doors and windows could be kept closed. I was there for Waitangi weekend so also it might be quieter during the week.

The room and the location was great for what we paid for however, upon arrival in the bathroom there were hairs on the counter next to fresh clean towels.

I very much appreciate the daily room servicing of fresh towels and dishes, this was what made a difference from my first initial impression however, some of the new clean glasses had lipstick stains... I was reluctant to even use anything without sanitising it with boiling water.

On the last night I was also disrupted by a loud siren which I soon found out was the fire station, it would have been a good idea to include it in a welcome pack or let us know that this could happen. The rooms next to me were also confused as to what it was having not experienced it before. This was at 1am and scared the heck out of me. I thought it may have been the hotel fire alarm.

Overall if these things were fixed I would rate it better.

We are so very disappointed you didn't experience our usual super clean standards on arrival - thankfully the team had a chance to make up for that. Extra, extra checks are now in place. There is a note regarding the fire alarm in the guest compendium, we are located near the fire station which is serviced by local volunteers who respond to call outs. Best wishes from the team @ Raglan Sunset Motel.

We stayed at the Sunset twice this year. We were pleasantly surprised to find the facilities very well equipped for our family. We rented two adjoining rooms (8 and 9) on the ground floor. Kitchen is well stocked. It is not well advertised that the staff will replace dishes so you don't have to wash them yourself in the kitchen sink! Plenty of room for surf gear and scooter if you need it. Would be nice to go back in better weather to enjoy the courtyard. Unfortunately we didn't realize there was a spa! Great location close to Four Square, the main street and all other attractions in Raglan. Very friendly staff.

The motel is only a few minutes walk from the centre of town. The motel looks quite plain from the outside but the rooms are really nice, spacious and modern and spotlessly clean with small outside balconies for sitting. The bathrooms are also spacious and well lit with really good water pressure in a large shower. The inner courtyard looks very nice. Friendly management and easy check-in. Would stay here again.

This is a relaxing motel in the middle of Raglan, close to shops, cafes, restaurants and the harbour. The room I stayed in had a pleasant balcony overlooking a central courtyard. The bed was large and comfortable, good pressure shower and it was spotlessly clean. There weren't many staff around, but those I did meet were friendly and professional.

The only unusual aspect about the room was that the kitchenette didn't have a sink, even though it looked as if one had been planned but just never put in. That made preparing light meals in the room somewhat challenging as there was no tap or fresh water. I either used the bathroom sink or the excellent well stocked shared kitchen along the outside corridor veranda (there was never anyone in there).

Generally the motel was quiet and peaceful. However, on the first morning I was woken up at 6am by a sizeable tour group in the courtyard below having a very loud breakfast. I didn't mind too much, they were clearly having a wonderful time in New Zealand and also enjoyed the motel (I could hear them discussing how much they liked it). The second time when noise was an issue was on my last night, when Raglan's emergency siren fired up around 2am in the morning. It was like a fire alarm. In fact I first thought it was the motel's fire alarm and went to check if guests were assembling at a central point outside. A few people were also on their balconies trying to determine what was happening, but there was no evacuation. Then I thought that it might have been a tsunami warning, but realised that would be very unusual as tsunamis are virtually non-existent on New Zealand's west coast (but there could always be a first). Apparently there had been a serious accident nearby and helicopters were shortly sweeping over Raglan in the early hours of the morning. I don't know how regularly this happens, but it would have been useful to have had some information in the rooms to advise that it might be a possibility and to distinguish fire alarms from municipal evacuation and emergency sirens.

Generally this an excellent motel; comfortable, convenient and clean. It would be very good for a long stay as well (I was there for 5 days for a conference), but it would be an ideal place for a holiday in Raglan or a weekend away.

The room was clean and had everything you might need for a quick overnight stop. Very central to restaurants and pubs. Parking was tight due to a conference that was being held there but we were fortunate to get a spot close to our room each time we went out. Not so sure others were so lucky. I felt it was a bit overpriced compared to other places we stayed in (~$165) around North Island but suspect that it was par for the course.
