The Whim Creek Hotel was once the centre of a thriving mining town. While the town has passed in to history, this iconic, historic inn is still at the heart of the Pilbara. And with traditional outback hospitality, a crowd pleasing menu of top quality pub favourites and a wide selection of drinks it's not hard to see why. There is a wide selection of accommodation options from free camping and caravan sites to single, double and family rooms. The Whim Creek Hotel is perfectly located at the heart of the Pilbara Coast. It's the ideal base to explore the national parks and historic towns in the region. Within easy striking distance are the charming port of Dampier and some of the State's most fascinating historic pioneering towns, including Point Samson, Cossack and Roebourne. The beautiful Millstream-Chichester and Karijini national parks are also close by.

Detailed Reviews
Ok so we camped here on the 12th June, no toilets or showers but nice n quiet. The pub is closed. Share the ambiance with the cows around a campfire and enjoy a glass or two. The highway wasn’t noisey either.

In the middle of nowhere, but a few miners around. Cold beer and lovely Aussie rissoles on the menu - filling yummy and cheap. LOved it. A welcome break for touring motor cyclists. Great shanded areas to sit in outside when not too hot

About half way between Roebourne and Port Hedland in the North of Western Australia this pub is a real gem. Aside from its classic style and interesting history, the bar and restaurant area appears to have been refurbished and offers a good menu - aside from the usual pub fare of burgers, steaks etc, also offers a range of lighter meals, paninis and a choice of interesting fresh salads. There's not much else in Whim Creek but schedule a drive out here, or a lunch stop if passing by. And while there spare a few minutes to review and reflect at the 5 memorial stones, near the car park, commemorating 5 local indigenous brothers who served in the Australian Armed forces in World War 2, two of whom died in action.

What a shame this Australian icon is closed. We stopped here hoping to rent a room or get a site to camp but it was closed. No fuel stations after this until Roebuck if you’re heading north.
Hopefully someone can reopen this because it’s a landmark we were hoping to stop for a drink at.

This hotel looks pretty ordinary from the outside but delivers buckets of good food , cold beer and unique charm on the inside.
This a survivor from the towns of Whim Creek and Balla Balla and no wonder. It has been keeping locals and travelers fed and watered for over 100 years and it delivers.
The burgers could stop a road train - the staff kindly warned me that I probably would not be able to go the distance so I split it with my wife - a very wise decision !
Don't drive past drive in . You will not regret it.

Thanks for the kind words! Yes those burgers are BIG!! You might be being a bit harsh about the outside - the old pink pub has plenty of charm in our eyes! We hope you look this good at 130 years old!! :) Thanks for your custom and we hope to see you again soon.

Situated about helf way between Port Hedland and Karratha is Whim Creek Hotel a real oasis on the journey north or south. This hotel offers accommodtion, meals and cafe. We stopped in for a coffee and to break our journey yesterday - the service was good, the coffee perfect, and the bathrooms very welcome.
The oub decor inside was very Australian - i was surprised by the range of items on offer here. Well regarded by locals for meals - we will be back for lunch next visit.

Been trying to phone the Whim Creek Hotel now for over a week, can’t get anyone to answer, emailed as well still no answer, even contacted the Port Hedland visitors centre they have no idea what’s happened, so disappointing. Is there any one that knows what’s happened to the old pub

The hotel and management are excellent. Best steak sandwich EVER 😋The caravan parking out the back very basic but what do you expect for $15 including power and clean showers. Steve the all rounder is a great ambassador for Whim Creek Hotel Cheers 🍻

Called in off the highway to find big closed signs up and the pub fenced off. You can not access any toilet facilities and apparantly it has been closed for renovations and sale after a recent cyclone. No reopening date is known and a caretaker is on site for security reasons only. No need to stop here nothing to see!
