Detailed Reviews
The Aloft guesthouse is situated just a couple of hundred metres from the domestic air terminal – and since RealTonga domestic flights are sometimes a bit hit-and-miss (that might be an understatement), this is very convenient. It is clean, staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Service with a big smile. There is also a restaurant just outside the guesthouse, run by the staff, where you can either sit outside or have a takeaway; the food is good, wholesome, well cooked and offers really good value, although I guess it helps to like burgers and fish and chips.
Just occasionally, very occasionally, you meet a real star. Fiona, who runs the guesthouse, is a star. She knows everyone and can make arrangements for just about anything, on any island. She is efficient, easy going and extremely capable. Breakfast is basically when you get up and I occasionally had a cafetierre of coffee at 0530 hrs. There is a fair turnover of guests, mainly because Tongatapu is where you fly in to and from where you reach some of the other islands. Due to the vagaries of flight cancellations, I was there for 10 days and met a host of interesting people from all over the world, many of whom were regulars at Aloft (that tells its own story). There is a real sense of homeliness, due in very large part to Fiona herself, to her personality, leadership and positive attitude to absolutely everything.
Fiona will pick you up from the airport at any time of the day or night (the international terminal is about half a mile away) – necessary because many international flights get in and leave at silly o’clock. I’m not sure when she sleeps. I would not contemplate staying anywhere else.

I would come back to Tonga just to see Fiona again!
Fiona very much became our Tongan Aunty. She looked after us, fed us breakfast, and gave us a lot of much needed advice and guidance. She truly cares for her guests and the accommodation, that much is clear.
There's also a restaurant out front which is really convenient and decent portion sizes for a reasonable price. Would recommend the fish burgers!
It's also walking distance from the airports which is really convenient.
The rooms are really nice - clean, spacious, well equipped. It has a super homely feel. We were very happy here!

Across the road from domestic terminal and minutes from international terminal.A must if you are arriving on the 1am Virgin flight and then heading to the outer Islands. Only budget hotel available as it is a long way to town. Fiona went out of her way to solve dire problem ie. lack of beer.

The only good aspect of this hotel is its manager, Mrs Fiona. She is so nice and tries to resolve all issues. But the hotel is very old, not maintained. Even to take a shower it is a miracle to work the faucets to get water. The tub is obstructed. The sink is 1000 years old. There was no toilet paper at first. I had to go to another room to get one. They charge for the wifi US dollars 7 a day. It should be free, for what they charge. Transfers and breakfast (nice toast and eggs at the container bar in front of the hotel was nice and the attendants also very responsible) But the price is too high it should charge 50%.

You could not find a more kind hearted person if you tried- Fiona will make you feel at home from the second you step foot in aloft. Her customer service skills are next level! Aloft itself is also a great option if you have a flight early the next day as it is vey close to both airports! Rooms are clean and tidy, there is a comfortable lounge area and not forgetting the restaurant! I will be staying here again and highly recommend it to all!

If you are arriving on a late flight, leaving early or are just after a beautiful, clean, roomy place to stay for a few days on a stopover in Tongatapu, Aloft is not to be missed. And yes - you even have your own shower and ensuite. It’s location right opposite the Domestic terminal is ideal for short stop-overs, but longer stays are also easily catered for. Your beautiful hostesse Fiona has worked in the holdpitality/tourism industry on the Island for years now, and nothing is too much trouble. Fiona will gladly organise you a rental car, transfers, a fantastic guide for the day to drive you around and see the highlights etc etc. If there is anything worth seeing going on in town, she will let you know...and probably join you to explain whats happening! Have stayed in many places around Tonga, and this is very much one of the better ones...and one my partner and I will return to each time we are in transit to Vava’u. Aloft is a merit to you Fiona. And good luck with the new restaurant!!!!

This was (unexpectedly) one of our best memories of our trip to Tonga and Fiji. We didn't know what to expect since we didn't book anything in advance. But we asked the cabdriver to take us to a cheap place close to the airport as we where to catch a flight early next morning.
Fiona, who runs Aloft, is super friendly! We felt very welcome and she cooked some amazing food. It felt like we'd come home to someone who wants to show you the REAL tonga.
She took us on a tour to town and showed us around, you could tell she knows the place.
If you stay here - do it for a couple of days!
