Enjoyed our night at Melrose Cottages. Far exceeded our expectations. Set in a beautiful apple orchard. The house had big decks out the front and back and had a lovely garden. My grandson enjoyed his bath in the outdoor bath on the deck. A very generous breakfast was provided and the fridge had a good variety of snacks and drinks (and wine) to purchase at very reasonable prices. The beds were comfy. Air conditioning was very welcome on such a hot day. The only negative was the noisy road which you can't see but you can definitely hear. It didn't bother us too much though and didn't stop us from having a good sleep. Overall it was a great experience.
We stayed for two nights in Melrose Cottage which is very much smaller than the adjacent Melrose House. The staff were friendly and helpful. However, the Cottage is situated within 50 metres of a busy road and at times we had to close the doors onto the rear deck due to the noise, particularly when heavy trucks were passing. The windows are not double-glazed. None of the three bedrooms had a wardrobe or drawers to store clothes, so we had to 'live out of our suitcases'. The choice of TV channels was very poor, and many of those normally available on Freeview we could not find in the Cottage.
We were a group of 12 who stayed for one night during the bike trail. We had a further 6 join us for dinner, which was catered for by Melrose Cottages. From the minute we arrived to when we left we were well and truly spoilt by both Pernilla and Peter. There were so many personal touches from the way the food was presented to little details like fresh flowers around the place and lovely pink roses in each of the white dressing gowns. The food was beautiful and plentiful and we were glad we selected the dinner option, which was fun cooking on the BBQs. Breakfast the next day was also superb, with beautiful hash browns, tasty bacon, free range eggs from their chickens, and apple juice from their orchard. Also should mentioned we had a lovely relaxing spa under the stars in the evening. Nothing was a problem for our hosts, and they were happy to pick us up and drop us back at our bikes. A couple of the group were not cycling and they were even lent the car to go into the village for a cup of coffee :) Bliss - would highly recommend anyone thinking of staying here to just do it.…
