Beautiful Local Charm
Kalinago was small and quaint and felt uniquely local and tropical. We loved it. Our top floor room was beautiful with tall ceilings and real wooden furniture. All rooms face the water. Our balcony overlooked the beautiful small bay and small pool with thatched roof bar. One negative - instant coffee in room vs coffee maker. There was also a small fridge, safe, electric water pot, iron, etc. Sat. nights they offer dinner on the beach with full service and tables in the sand with real tablecloths. Large fire with a drumming band beside us on the oceanfront. Very nice in a beautiful setting. Choose your meat from the grill and the rest was buffet style. This is not the luxury feel some demand. We had stayed at that cookie cutter standard large luxury resort on Grand Anse on the front end of our trip. I could have been on a beach anywhere in the world. It went on forever and lots of resorts nearby with restaurants we could walk to. It was also very nice... Still, at Kalinago I knew I was in the Caribbean and this is where I would want to relax and enjoy being far away from civilization. Their restaurant had flowers and wood and real tablecloths. Pretty setting and food wasn't bad. Service slow. Better food would have gotten them 5 stars. We much preferred Boho's restaurant, short walk up from the Kalinago. Highly recommend it. We also enjoyed great fries, conversation, fish tacos and beer at La Plywood Beach Bar, small open air 'shack' right on the beach by Kalinago. Lovely memories made here.

Improved from our last visit. Still an amazing location.
We came back with a family group in May 2023 for a week. The grounds looked much improved and staff did make more of an effort to accommodate our needs.
We all had ground floor rooms which worked well and allowed us to spend time altogether on the garden outside our rooms with the children. This helped as some of the family were staying at a different hotel or lived locally and allowed us to socialise right outside the rooms where the children were sleeping.
Our granddaughters had a great holiday. Enjoying both the location for the beach on your doorstep with its safe sheltered bay and the on-site pool.
Staff allowed us to eat our beach BBQ food within the grounds which again allowed us the space to be a family group for which we were grateful.
Due the resort being more local and not part of a chain you do get more of a local experience which gives you the freedom to enjoy the Caribbean in its splendour.
If your looking for recently refurbished rooms the resort is not for you but if you want a room on a beach in the Caribbean at an affordable price (sale deals available as package through BA from the UK) this is for you.
The beach outside your room is stunning is quiet most of the time and very safe for children.

Our stay in Kalinago beach resort
Hello there!

I want you all to know that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your
resort. Everyone including the office administration, painters, house
keeping staff and the kitchen staff were very kind, helpful and polite.

We enjoyed the stay even more due to the nut free kitchen. We would like
to thank Ronnie, the chef, Deslin, Shalisha, Rena, Jamaila, Joel,
Avioen, Shevon and Crystal because of their friendliness and
respectfulness. They all took utmost care to make us feel comfortable.
Ronnie was very patient with us while answering to my repeated queries
about if my son could eat a particular dish. Thank you! The menu was
kept interesting and it was a treat to experience the tasty Caribbean
style food. Deslin made us feel like home with her jovial attitude and
hospitality. I made friends with her and she rocks!

So thank you once again. We would be recommending the resort in a
heartbeat to all our friends. Missing the Grenadian weather and people
here in Ottawa, Canada.

With warm regards,

Sharmishtha Barve

The most expensive rip off in a Caribbean Hotel.
We are traveling to Grenda on business and we are told our usual is fully booked and someone in our office found this place.
The room came with a bathroom and closet door which could not be closed, at the very least one would have expected a bottle of water in the refrigerator but there was none. The lighting in the room was so poor I had to turn on every single one to read something. The worst experience was the breakfast I specifically said I wanted sausage I got bacon instead, I asked for tea and I got bits of grass in a teapot with lumpy white sugar and watery milk. Considering the price that was paid by my company for three nights I can safely say I will never stay at this place again. I will rear my travel to avoid this situation again.

Lovely stay
Lovely 2 weeks stay at Kalingo hotel. For us we wanted to explore the island but stay on a hotel on a quiet beach and this ticked all our boxes. Front desk were always really helpful with excursions, booking taxis and when at the start we asked to move to a different room with one bed rather than twin. Some top tips - Sur la mer (resturant) were great for breakfast but we found it better to go elsewhere for dinner. The beach is beautiful but when a cruise ship is in town be aware lots of tourists are dropped off here. We didn't mind as it was only for a few hours in the middle of the day and wasn't obtrusive. As its quieter/ more out of the way - we spent quite a bit on taxis to go other places and out for dinner. We walked a few times to the supermarket/ grand anse (approx 20 mins).

Rustic hotel on the perfect Caribbean beach.
The location of this hotel is perfect. The beach is usually quiet with plenty of space. It’s a little tired in places but offers rustic charm. The staff were all very helpful. The food was of a good standard, particularly the breakfasts and I’d recommend the rum punch special with has a couple of secret ingredients. The pool has a swim up bar. It’s next to La Plywood bar and a 20 min walk from Umbrellas. The driveway is steep but makes a short sharp walk up the hill to blow away the cobwebs before breakfast. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Plenty of parking. Use the Haylup taxi app to ride to and from. Try the rum punch special.

Disappointing this time
Third time staying at Kalinago was very disappointing. The hotel has been ran down and has a feeling of neglect about it. When checking in we were given no information about when the bar would be open or the restaurant. The sunloungers were dirty and needed cleaning to use often padlocked with a feeling that the hotel was not open. Luckily my uncle had an apartment at the sister property Gem which was much better and was a much nicer environment to sit and relax. I stayed in the middle range room and felt that it was very dark and miserable compared to the top floor rooms we had stayed in previously. I had to get up one night and turn security’s radio off that was blasting out music at 11pm stopping the hotel from sleeping.
This used to be a great property as the location is fabulous on one of my favourite beaches.
I feel with work this hotel could be great again.

Without the location this hotel falls short on most benchmarks
A beautiful location on the beach just about perfect for the sunset BUT it is clear that the owners rely on this ..when there is no manager in sight .. reception and bar/restaurant staff are hard working and polite though sometimes as a guest .. I feel I am an inconvenience.. there is no heart to this hotel .. no central social point except possibly the pool bar in daytime . The whole place needs investment .. the rooms are dated which in itself does not bother me but the beautiful ceiling fan does not work and nor do most fans in most rooms I was advised .. much preferable to noisy air con , the toilet water runs after each flushing .. a simple plumbing job .. which I have asked to be corrected several times … wardrobe doors missing or not useable .. various trip hazards around the hotel .. pool lighting broken .. awful beach chairs .. outside shower not working .. non existent Spa .. no activities published .. food and drinks overpriced and average .. so much potential due to location which is why I chose it over a Grand Anse and true Blu where I have stayed before but a kick up the backside is needed .. very unlikely I would choose on a future visit to stay here ..

Another hidden gem
In the past, I have dined at this property a few times; however, I never stayed at the hotel. In December 2023, during one of my monthly staycations, we decided to spend one night at Kalinago. The room was nicely decorated and contained the necessary amenities. We bathed in the pool as well as on BBC Beach but the entire breakfast experience at Sur La Mer was quite impressive. We ordered in advance, for 8:00 am since I was going to the office immediately after checkout. Whilst placing the orders, Kathy guided us in terms of portion sizes, food combinations, and the like. When we arrived at the restaurant, the food was ready. Everything was tasty and I took the rest to the office as the portions were generous. Thank you Kathy for adding value to our experience!!! We will certainly be back…

It was my daughters 10th Birthday and I decided to give her a Surprise. Excellent service provided from the Office personnel. Breakfast was freshly made and was indeed DELICIOUS. We had lunch poolside and it was AMAZING....Everything was prepared and delivered steaming hot. See you soon, Kali. We had a BLAST!
