We stayed here mid-September, early spring, for 4 nights. The accommodation was comfortable and clean with the ability to self-cater. There is a Restaurant and bar available. The Lodge is located on an inlet with many walks in close proximity. We did not participate in any water activity but can imagine much activity in the Summer. A lovely spot offering easy access by car to the other parts of Great Barrier. We very much enjoyed our stay.
The staff were excellent, the restaurant was fantastic, the 14 of us were really well looked after. Very helpful with recommendations for places to visit on the island. Very happy to recommend the Great Barrier Lodge to friends & family. Thank you for looking after us so well. See you next time.
A beautiful secluded location with stunning views from our room. The owners were very friendly and helpful in telling us the best spots on the island to visit. The food was absolutely superb. Great Barrier is an amazing untouched paradise and hopefully remains that way!
We were a group of 18 family and friends and the lodge was perfect for us. We stayed four nights over Easter. The rooms were comfortable and clean and had basic cooking facilities for breakfast. The setting is beautiful on Whangaparapara harbour. We used this as a base to walk parts of the Aotea track and the Te Ahumata track which were within walking distance. The location was also close to Claris, within driving distance for a coffee at the Fat Puku. The lodge was great with big outdoor tables for pre-dinner snacks and a lounge area for relaxing and plenty of games for after dinner. We had dinner every night and the food was great - wholesome, tasty, plentiful, catered for everyone's tastes and dietary requirements. We had a set menu planned by the chef and it was…
This was our first visit to the Island, how bad is that when we live just across the channel. The food the lodge the location our new found friends Angeline and Clive, their son Jack where awesome, the chief (sorry chief forgot your name) amazing, food amazing. My wife and I were there just 3 weeks ago and on Friday I'm taking my sons there where we will base and do some diving and fishing. I have travelled all over the world and with out doubt this little piece of paradise would be my favou
The property is in an absolutely beautiful spot overlooking harbour and with nearby walks available We stayed there as a group of 15 persons plus 2 guides Food in evenings was plentiful and very good Bar facilities very good with a wonderful verandah for meals and drinking overlooking water Staff friendly Rooms basic but large
The setting is lovely. The lodge overlooks an enclosed bush-clad harbour. There are native birds in abundance. Accommodation is rather basic. The studio unit was clean and tidy, but was small and cheaply fitted out. Conversation and other noises pass between the units. Because of having to generate their own power, heating was only a portable gas heater which we couldn't get to work. Service was friendly and relaxed.
We stayed for two nights. Room was clean. Not serviced at all and supplies not replenished. Linen not changed daily due to power restrictions. Towels changed after three days! We thought the power saving was a little over the top. Had a meal which was very good. Reasonably priced and had a good varied menu. Continental breakfast was basic, but plenty of it. Owners very friendly as were the staff.
We were thrilled to return to Great Barrier Lodge for another amazing weekend break. Angeline and Clive are amazing host and once again made us feel straight at home. We stayed in the garden room this time which was lovely and private. Dinner was amazing with plenty of choice, loved the homemade ice cream. Sunday morning we went kayaking and exploring the bay and the beautiful wildlife. Highly recommended
The magic of The Great Barrier Island is enhanced by the resurrection of the this fabulous old world charm of everything that a couple can provide their guests . Having taken over this establishment they have injected back everything I recall that I enjoyed. From the well stocked bar where the guests stand or sit around making new friends.Enjoying a great homely 3 course meal from a reasonable menu. The room I found comfortable and well appointed from what appeared to be recent renovations. All the other guests spoke highly of their enjoyment as did a person at the other end of the island who said it was their place of choice for a night out. It is a trip that even in mid winter was well worth the visit as the barrier has progressed to great roads , well maintained walking tracks…
